It was going to rain. Big brown eyes peered up into the gloomy sky. The whole land was shrouded in an eerie dark grey tone as no sunlight was visible behind the veil of clouds masking it. A worried expression came over the creature's benevolent face as worried thoughts ran through his mind. The sky let out a low grumble of thunder and lightening flared into life in the distance. The storm was still far away but it was approaching very quickly. The beast rose, a strong gust of wind ruffling his brown fur. The scent of rain was strong on the wind and he knew it would be best to find shelter before the storm blew in. The forest was deadly quiet, he was sure all the woodland creatures had taken cover. He began to trot forewards, the smoke-like mane trailing down his back wavering softly behind him. Soon his trot became a gallop and then a full out run.

His speed was uncannied except when it came to his two brothers. He was but a brown blur moving among the trees, dodging them with ease. Entei sighed as he went, the fire beast wasn't partial to rain. He was sure Suicune would enjoy it, wherever he was at the moment. Raikou as well, even. He cleared the trees and found himself in a clearing. Tall grass, still covered in a light frost from the remnants of winter that still clutched the land, gave it a dead apeparence. He wondered idly if the rain that was coming would turn to snow. It was certainly cold enough for it to. He turned his great head back and forth, his keen eyes trying to find a nook or cranny in which he could squeeze himself into. His best bet was the more mountainous region of the land but that was too far away and the storm was almost on top of him.

A fat rain drop hit him squarely on the nose and he wrinkled it in distaste.

There was something about this sort of weather that never failed to make Espeon feel queasy. The sun had barely decided to retreat, yet darkness was dense. It was like a heavy curtain, shielding the forest from the even dying rays of sunlight. A different type of strength was required for the purple creature to travel in this darkness. She always associated lack of light with lack of hope. Nighttime had become a competition against her fear. How Umbreon could enjoy this she didn’t know. A low crackling sound echoed above the trees followed by a flickering of light. A furrowed brow of anxiety form as the graceful animal predicted the next stage of this story. A sudden gust of freezing air sent shivers down her spine. But her body shook for two reasons: 1) the wind was ice cold, simple as that and 2) her guess was correct; a storm was on its way. Her small delicate feet were being dragged along the dead leaves and grass, purposely. Where was she to find sanction before rain chose to cascade from the sky?

Her joints were restricting her movement to a slow pace. Espeon was not known as a lover of water and avoided it with a passion. A thin tail was swishing back and forth, like a pendulum, as she watched the approaching doom. Just as the scared female thought that her situation was at its worst a moving shadow caught her eye. A frightening thought of an enormous beast crossed her mind. Optimism was a trait that Espeon couldn’t summon up at the moment, yet she wished from the bottom of her gentle heart that she could. Smiles, sunshine and hope were hidden behind a veil of clouds. She shook her head fiercely as if to rid her mind of such ideas.

A long shuddering sigh escaped from her lips without her permission.
Soon afterwards a gasp followed as she tread across snapping twigs and broken leaves.

While thoughts of a warm cave to spend the night in drifted idly through Entei's mind he knew that was unrealistic. He couldn't spend the night in a tree, the risk of the great beasts of light that slithered through the sky striking it was too great. He had seen it happen before and didn't really feel like dying. He disappeared into the forest again, his powerful legs propelling him forewards. It wasn't long before he found exactly what he was looking for - a huge oak tree that had fallen some time ago. Its enormous roots jutted out from its trunk, making a perfect niche beneath it. Perfect for him anyway. In one leap he was at the mouth of the shallow little 'cave'. His eyes scanned the interior for any sign of life and surprisingly there was none, save for the occasional bug. He slowly crawled in, finding it very spacious beneath the thick roots. He owuld get a bit damp from the cracks in the makeshift roof over his head but that was it. Unless the wind decided to shift direction and push the rain into his little abode.

The cat shivered beneath his thick fur. The wind was cutting right through it and it would be a tough night without the warmth of a fire. He bounded out of the cave again, his eyes sweeping the ground. He was on a mission: search for wood. Another few drops fell into his face as he stopped and picked up a few good-sized branches in his mouth. It wouldn't be enough though. Working his way farther away from his little home he stopped dead when he heard a noise - one that wasn't from the wind nor the rain. It seemed like a gasp, faint above the snarl of thunder. He tossed his gaze about quickly and almost at once found a light purple form beyond the trees to his right. She was very hard to miss and stuck out like a sore thumb. Curiousity getting the better of him he moved in for a closer look. It was a being much like himself. She looked a bit frightened though he was no empath. He wondered if she had a place to escape the rain. It wouldn't hurt to do a little investigating. Through his mouthfull of wood he cleared his throat and said, "Hewwo, awe yew lowst?"

He would be glad to share his abode with her, and the fire he was going to make as well. A bolt of lightening slipped across the sky, illuminating the earth for a split second. Entei gazed at the female with his kind brown eyes, awaiting a response.

Wandering aimlessly was not the brightest strategy Espeon had come up with. But fear and confusion showed her true colors of naïveté. The bright shade of her fur resembled a wandering lighthouse whenever the lightning flashed over her head. Her glossy coat shimmered with a mere reflection of the light up above her. The delicate creature was unable to see her own coat shine, but that didn’t mean others could. The feline instinctively turned her head in the direction of the sound. Her heart was beating faster than a hummingbird’s wings; it’s speed stayed constant even after she realized the culprit was herself. Two amethyst jewels darted back and forth with a worry clouding their beauty. What if something heard? What if she had a rival, now, for shelter? Here she went again, dreaming up wild situations with her creative mind. She was sensitive, not sensible when fear and panic were the only thoughts residing in her mind.

“Hewwo.”

An unfamiliar voice reached her ears which immediately perked up. Her eyes lock with he dark, friendly optics of a brown beast with a silvery mane draped across his back. The stranger wasn’t exactly the needle in a haystack, not with the strange mask-like accessory on his face. She scanned him up and down, taking in every detail, from his fluffy dirt-hued ears to his dust coated toes. Surely, this one was not a threat to her. There was a long, pregnant pause after his question. The words didn’t completely process through the gears and mechanics in her brain. The fault might have been his due to the fact that his mouth was stuffed with twigs. But anyone who knew Espeon well could explain that it wasn’t in her nature to think while in shock. There she stood frozen and unmoving, a statue. “Oh!” the female cried when a rush of enlightenment flooded over her. Embarrassed for making him wait, Espeon bowed her down and averted her gaze. “Ah...um, well…I g-guess you could say I’m lost. It’s too dark for me to tell where I am.”

Wood. To make a fire? That plan was better than trying to flee into the mountainous region. And most definitely, it would be more success that traveling in circles. The wind roared and thundered through the forest, an uncontrollable train that veered off its tracks. She felt those kind eyes still on her and guilt filled her heart. She made him wait in the freezing cold for her answer. “D-do you need more wood?” offered the female, in an attempt to repent her blunder. She glanced at him once again and in that second lighting conquered the sky. Her agile frame shifted its attention to twig on her right. In one swooping graceful movement, Espeon bent her head to pick the stick up with her mouth. “How awout dis wun?”

A large drop of water plopped in between her eyes. Then another.

Entei watched her expression carefully, quietly hoping he wouldn't alarm her. He wasn't the most normal-looking beast on the face of the earth and his appearence sometimes frightened others. He only read a touch of shock amidst the sea of embarrassment that had spread across her face. She hadn't fled screaming, which was good. He tilt his head to the left ever so slightly when she bowed to him. He returned the gesture with amusement in his eyes. "I see," He managed to get out, carefully readjusting his grip on the wood while being careful not to snap the bundle with his fangs. He looked to the sky as the wind snapped and hissed above them. He'd have to hurry up. At her inquiry he shook his head yes. "We gotta huwwy if we wanna beat da storm," He said though his tone was not snippy merely urging her to get a move on.

He shook his head at the twig and with one graceful leap bounded over to scoop up a few more thus ceasing his ability to talk. He jerked his head in the direction he wanted her to follow and began to trot in said direction. His pace was nowhere near a run for he didn't want to lose the purple female. He kept his pace steady but it was still quite brisk none the less. Rain drops, though still light, began to pelt against him. It was going to get worse. A lot worse. Every now and then he would look to make sure Espeon was still near him but plowwed on. It didn't take too long before they reached the giant fallen tree and its very complex root system. His grey main disappeared into the dirt below its roots, finding it more comfortable now that the rain wasn't on him. He spat out the sticks and began to organize them in a neat little pile at once.

He became aware it would be a bit tight with two of the large cats underneath but they could surely manage. He waited for Espeon to place her stick on the pile, looking at her with a friendly smile. "Sorry I didn't introduce myself back there," He apologized, feeling a bit guilty for such a rude action on his part. "I am Entei,"

The violet beast waited anxiously in the nanosecond of silence before his answer. What bothered her most was how something seemed to be missing from their conversation. The female could not manage to place a paw on the problem. His question had been answered. Check. She offered to help him. Check. She hadn’t apologized for the spastic response, yet. But Espeon was not about to bring that up again. It’d be better just to let that slide. After all, the amused expression upon his face probably wasn’t directed towards her somewhat strange persona. His suggestion to huwwy (or hurry) was another excellent thought. Yet, it was voiced in a manner that didn’t shove pressure onto her paws. Both knew the fact he had stated, and mentioning it as like an reminder.

The feeling that she was a burden was slowly lifting from her shoulders as they carried on. But if the storm’s strength increase-which it would- that guilt was sure to return, taking the form of heaven’s teardrop and soaking her glossy coat. Every time he turned around, she felt slightly embarrassed and at the same time relieved. Espeon had no idea what to do if he left her in the rain. At the sight of the aged defeated tree, the female was tempted to pause and stare at its beauty and sadness. INstead, she followed the billowing grey fluff into the cave-like compartment beneath its roots. Merely being out of the rain warmed her heart, despite her fur's dreanched property. Swiftly she padded to his side and placed the sticks beside his neat pile.

At his apology and introduction, Espeon realized what had been missing. A name. She hadn’t asked for his name. "Oh, no! I'm sorry, she responded, emabarressed at his politeness. "My name is Espeon."

Her amythsyt optics traild to hte side, breaking eye contact with the brown creature. They met the sight of the moist pile of sticks collected earlier. "...How are we supposed to make a fire with those wet twigs?" she wondered aloud, in a tone that did not imply critisizm of his idea. Oh my, she felt like a chunk of memory and sense had been removed from her mind.

Entei picked up on her embarrassment at once and couldn't say he wasn't a little bit amused, even if he did feel a tad guilty for it. He gave the most humble bow he could in his position, which wasn't much more then a lowering of his head. He moved his paws from being splayed out in front of him to tucked against his chest in contentment. "It is a true pleasure to meet you, Espeon," He said calmly, nothing but truth showing through in his wise voice. He couldn't help but follow her eyes to the pile of sticks. At one he unfurled his left paw from his breast and idly turned over the sticks, checking them. They weren't too damp and once one caught fire he was sure the others would dry out and follow.

He couldn't help but grin at her inquiry, raising his eyes to try and meet hers again. This was always the fun part. Exposing his unique gift, that is. "Watch," He told her in not a commanding tone but merely one of suggestion. Then he shift his concentration back to the pile. The smile faded from his face and he closed his eyes as if in deep concentration. Then he parted his lips ever so slightly, inhaled deeply, and then exhaled. Small talons of flame snaked from his lips and immediately caught the wood in their grasp. He opened his brown eyes which were now sparkling from the reflection of the flames and he didn't stop tossing them out until he saw the wood had been set alight. Then, with a content sigh, he shut his mouth, curiously watching his newfound friend's face.
