It had taken a lot of determination, but Raphe had finally gotten up the courage to wander away from his mother for the day. He really didn't think she would be gone when he got back, because she loved him and said he was pretty. Certainly he had done everything he could to be prettier so she could love him so easily, but instead of needing a break from that self-imposed pressure he just saw being on his own as time to practice and see the world all at once.

The little unicorn foal thought exploring winter alone was so much quieter without his mother to talk to, but the didn't lose any of it's pleasure because of it. The meadow was covered in soft, fluffy snow that was not quite deep enough to give him difficulties wading through it, and in the sunlight there was ice glittering in the branches of shrubs that dotted the field and broke up the flat expanse of white. When he grew up he would be able to see over the shrubs, but for now he just peered up through them and enjoyed how the light made them sparkle.

As much fun as he had daintily prancing and playing in the snow and admiring winter's beauty, Raphe stumbled across a small creek that still gurgled under a layer of ice, and it was the creek that would hold his attention most. Being very careful not to get his shiny white hooves dirty, or muddy up his long fetlocks, he broke the ice and looked at himself in the water.

"My mane still isn't very long," he muttered unhappily to himself, oblivious to whomever might be around. That was perhaps the only flaw he saw in his own appearance, long manes were so much prettier than short ones, and every day he hoped his own would grow longer.

Also escaping from HER father, was Seimei. Her father didn't know how to handle foals at all, other than to take her to different places with him. He wasn't very much fun at all, she found. More often than once, she would find herself wandering from places to places. All new and strange. This time, she had found snooow! And such a fun thing it was!

Romping through the snow, she playfully rolled about the snow and prancing from place to place. So it was no surprise when she fell down an unexpected hill into a thick mountain of snow. A moment later, a head popped out of the snow with a bewildered yet delighted expression upon it's face. "That was fun!" She exclaimed, giggling to herself. Albeit snow was freezing and cold, nonetheless, it was still enjoyable.

However, a strange voice behind her caught her attention. Glancing around, She was greeted with the sight of a snowy white and grey foal standing before a frozen creek. 'What is he doing?" She wondered to herself, inclining her head to the side with questioning tilt. He seemed to be talking, but there was no one there! Staring at the sight for a moment longer, she began to stand up with efforts to try shake the snow off of her body and mane.

Once she was satisfied with her condition, she bounded up to the other foal with a friendly yell. "Hello there!"

Raphe's head shot up at much the same time as he whirled around, accidentally dunking one little hoof in the water and adding to his startle. The freezing cold, wet fur was perhaps the most unpleasant thing he had ever experienced physically, and it stuck to his leg in the most awful manner...

Almost as quickly as he recovered, he turned slightly so his soaked, un-matching hoof was not as visible.

"Hello," he replied, momentarily ignoring his foot problem to give the filly his most charming smile. He also stood a bit straighter, holding his head at a comfortably confident height. He had never met anyone other than his mother before, and right from the start he wanted to impress her and show her how pretty he was. Then maybe she would like him, and he would have a friend.

"I'm Raphe," the little unicorn continued, unable to resist giving that soaked hoof a shake despite wanting to maintain his poise.

The foal equally as surprised by her greeting as she was by his actions, She halted her trot to a stop, and skidded a little bit among the slippery snow. her intentions was to give the other foal some space. Apparently, he whirled around too fast or something, that probably gave him a headache or the such. Or perhaps he just wasn't steady on his feet? "Who knows?" Other people or soquili were always so strange. or at least everyone that SHE had met.

"Why, hello?" She said, with a curious tilt of her head to her left. Focusing her gaze on the foal before here, She couldn't help but to notice the foal's wintery coat somewhat like her own.. but he also had a horn! How cool, that was. The urge to blurt out the words were tempting, but likely, she would be seen as rude for doing so.. And if she was rude, she wouldn't get any friends.. and thus, no one would play with her.

"Raphe? My name is Seimei. It's a pleasure to meet you!" her words honest and sincere. It would be a pleasure for her to meet someone else, or anyone else other than her father. She had been taught manners by another friend of hers, and she was advised that manners were the best way to get .. benefits? Whatever that meant. But manners were just being nice too.

Unfamiliar with a handshake, she mimicked the other soquili and offered a hand of her own, in assumption of politeness. But as she was doing do, "So Raphe.." She noticed something VERY odd but one of the soquili's hooves.. "Did something happen to your hoof?" She inquired, with a concerned glance.

Raphe had never introduced himself before, but he liked what the filly had said. "It's a pleasure to meet you too!" he quickly replied, trying out the pleasing phrase with a bright smile. It sounded so much more proper than just introducing himself, he would have to remember to use it next time he met someone.

He felt his cheeks heat up slightly as she asked about his soaked hoof. So she had noticed after all... How uncomfortable.

"I stepped in the creek by accident," he said almost sheepishly, rubbing it against his other leg to try and dry the water off. It wasn't very pretty at all, and she seemed concerned about it, so Raphe carefully set it down behind his other hoof so it wasn't so visible. Then he smiled brightly. "It's really cold, but it isn't anything to worry about."

"Apparently so." She said eyeing the hoof before bursting into giggles. She didn't know why she started to laught but it was probably his expression that did it. "No need to hide it silly. If you hide it, it won't be able to dry off!" If he was hiding his hoof, it would just become damp. And his sheepish tone didn't escape her. What was it to be sheepish about? Certainly not a wet hoof! She wasn't one to care about those things.

"Why, I swear. A pretty horse like you should have more common sense that that." She reprimanded, with affection in her tone.

She was tempted to say more.. But the matter was easily forgotten, as she observed their surroundings once more. "Forgetting about that, let's go play!" She announced. Eagerly, she trotted a few steps forward. "I want to make snow angels! Do you want to, too?"

Despite the double nature of the filly's comments, Raphe's little chest puffed out proudly. She thought he was pretty even in spite of that poor soaked hoof, and it was the most wonderful feeling to know for sure that all his practicing had been worthwhile.

His expression brightened almost immediately and swished his tail in a pleased manner even if he didn't move his hoof. "I'm sure it will dry eventually. Especially if you want to play together. It won't stay wet if I'm moving around."

He tilted his head slightly as he followed her. "I've never made snow angels before, how do you do that?"

She was glad to see that the other foal had perked up again. He really seemed to like his looks.. But he certainly wasn't vain about it. And that was refreshing~ "That's right!" She piped up, agreeing with the other foal's logic.

"Hmm. How to do it?" She said, with a questioning tilt to her tone. "I think.." Her voice faded off as she stared off into the snow. She fidgeted slightly as she tried to remember how it was done.. For a moment, she was deeply engrossed in her thoughts as she circled around a patch of snow. She had only seen human children who did it from afar.. She she wasn't QUITE sure. But it looked like a lot of fun! At least, the children had alot of fun?

But.. if they could do it, than she could do it too! "Well. I think they did something like.. this!" In a sudden movement, she fell over on her side straight into the snow. With a flail of her arms, legs and hooves she swung around in the snow trying to make a shape.

She flailed for a few moments longer before coming to the conclusion that she had done enough. Yup. "And let's see what we have here~" She lifted her head up in a curious and alert gaze before struggling to shake off the snow on her mane.

On her wobbly legs, she stood up to shake off the remaining snow off her pelt. "So how does it loo-" Her question gas caught off in mid-sentence as cshe stared at her ..unidentified artwork. "Um. I don't think that's a snow angel." She added sheepishly.

Raphe's eyes went wide with shock as the filly flopped right over onto her side on the ground, and started flailing around somewhat. Was she... ill? No, she appeared to be having fun with it, and got up fine once she was finished, so she couldn't be suffering from an illness. He quickly realized that the fall had been intentional, and it must have been a part of the game she was playing.

In one way he was relieved, in another he was almost horrified. Why would anyone fall onto their side like that and risk getting themselves so dirty? What if there wasn't enough snow under them and they ended up getting grass stains and dirt on their coat? Would she ask him to flail around on the ground like that? Hopefully not, he hadn't found a pretty way to decline such suggestions yet.

All the while carefully trying to hide his mental confusion, Raphe approached the filly and her mark in the snow. "Are you sure that's not a snow angel?" He asked, peering at the vague shape. It really could have been for all he knew, he had never seen two leggers or their foals play in the snow. He daintily trotted around the snow angel and stopped on the other side where the view was a bit more symmetrical. "Maybe it looks more like a snow angel from here?"

"Maybe." She said trotting around to where Raphe stood. "But not really." She said, with some disappointment in her voice. "Ohwell. I suppose we are different from humans." She concluded, with a thoughtful glance. Humans could stand on two legs, and she had to stand on four. Yep. That was the difference all right~

But she didn't miss the worried look in th foal's eyes. In an effort to be more friendly, "Maybe you have something else in mind to do, Raphe?" She asked, with a curious tone. Her question was merely a suggestive one, and the fact was that she was already out of ideas. What else could be done with snow was a tricky question. She just couldn't see anything else being done with it.

Perhaps he would have some idea, or they could go off exploring~ It would be cute to find a rabbit or other critter but most creatures, she knew, burrowed deep into their homes at this time of the year. She had discovered it when she first began to chase around critters in the middle of autumn towards the beginning of winter. It didn't help that she also got lost many times too. But who could blame her?

After all, she had no one there to watch her, so she could do as she liked. And alot of times, it was fun!
