OMG, that's terrible...but I admit, it is kinda funny in a terrible way.

My section leader...we still tell stories about the Pink String Incident. You see, they had this one picture where the band made a "Z" (it was for Zorro). No one ever got the diagonal right though, so my band director put up this pink string across the field to line up the diagonal. My section leader (he wasn't section leader then, though) was late to practice and was kinda jogging out there and he tripped over the pink string and kinda smushed his mellophone when he put out his hands to break his fall. Like I said, we still tell the freshmen stories about pink string, even though he's graduated now. ^_^

Hmm... well, I found it quite funny that my friend, a freshman trombone, managed to get through the entire extended marching band season without putting so much as a tiny scratch in her dad's second-best trombone, then gave it a big dent by setting it down wrong on a chair and letting it slip the week after marching band ended.

We also have a clarinet player who managed to break off the bell of his clarinet (the cork-covered plastic part that slides into the bell snapped off) and so taped it back on with bright blue electric tape.

And, of course, every year one flute player looses her/his endjoint at some point in the twirling. We twirl our flutes as we march up to the field, and every year someone spins too fast or it doesn't fit right and it just flies off. That was me last year. sweatdrop (Well, actually it was during pregame...)

My brother sat on my flute when I was in 7th grade... I had to get a new one but I still have my bent up/smashed one up in my closet!

That reminds me of this one guy I had as a teacher for bassoon. When it cracked, he tried to glue the cracks and his bassoon got stuck. It was really sad, but kind of funny in a way.

when i played trumpet about a year ago i was at an honor band and it was really cold. i was trying to warm up my mouth while it was still attached to the trumpet and it detached and the bell of the trumpet got smashed when it hit the ground. everyone stared at me...

Well....one year there was this really short tuba player, and he was borrowing another guy's sousaphone. Unfortunately, being so short, he couldn't see since the bell was obstructing his vision. He ended up squirmed around in order to see the director and tripped, leaving a beautiful dent in the instrument. The guy who owned the sousaphone was NOT happy....not to mention he was about 1 1/2 feet taller and about 50 pounds heavier.

I'm in concert band, and during a performance last year, the second chair trombone player (I'm 1st smile ) accidentally let go of his slide, and it fell to the floor (the low brass was on raised platforms) we had to stop the song and restart it all because of that!

But it's okay, cuz he's a major buttface.

We had an Incident like that Durring marching band practice and some lessons. A Trombone guy slid the slide out too far and let go, and once he got it back on, he did it again.

well one time in junior high we were practicing for our concert and everyone still gets a kick out of it if someone brings it up(i dont cause i dont like remembering that jerk) when right as we were bringing our horns up to start the song the trombone next to me burped and i yell out his name and everyone looks at us this also happens during the concert which we happened to be recording so everyone got to see it the next day and we watch the old videos so they also saw it again the next year and the year after that and of course there has to be a trombone losing their slide which has happened to me a ton of times during class but it happened to someone else during the football game while we were in the stands however it was saved and didnt get a dent so she was still able to play

I joined late in the year for band..And though told "quite experianced" i made the worst mistake.
I just started out clarinet and i took my case and dropped it. Being my stupid self i decided to see how tough my case really was. I threw my clarinet case not thinking I should take my clarinet out first. My clarinet case popped open and my clarinet flew everywhere. I had to get a new clarinet and pay a fine of $40

The other night I wanted to clean out the inside of my trombone slide. I took the outer part off, tied some string to a cloth and weighted to on the other end to get it through. I got it to clean out one of the sides and it was all pretty and clean! Then I decided to run it through the other side, too. Then I thought to myself as I pulled it through, "It would suck if the string broke right now."

...It snapped as soon as I finished that thought.

This happened recently; I was headed for my case after Jazz Band to put my trombone away when, without any sort of warning, I found myself on the floor doing the splits and my trombone smashed into a nearby (hard plastic and metal) chair.

While the rest of the group was calling if I was OK, a fellow trombonist/friend and I were scrambling for my trombone (though I was laughing for some reason at the ridiculousness of it all).

So the BD and I looked over my (poor) intrument, and found a dent like someone'd shot it with a BB and a nice bend in the bell. (I was wailing at that point.)

And you know what? It was the fellow trombonist's fault! He'd been putting oil on his slide with a small spray bottle earlier, and the oil that'd gotten on the floor he didn't bother cleaning up and that's where I slipped hours later!

In fifth grade on the way to my flute lesson (This was during school) I tripped on the stairs and my flute case came open. (The latches were loose. Later we got a velcro strap to keep it shut.) The flute fell out. Luckily the flute was undamaged.

At a football game somebody accidentally knocked over a trumpet. The trumpet fell to the ground. It didn't help that the brass is typically at the top of the stands. The poor trumpet was ruined.

Oh i have 2
Last year me and my 2 buddies (both trombonists) were playing a hard peice and our band hall floor is tile..so we had to go out to 7th posistion and we ALL went out to far (and fast) and our slides hit the floor XD everyone stopped and looked back at us and thats how we got our famous "8th position bros..."
and then this year we were at 8th grade night and my friend (freshman) was messing around and his slide is all crapy and taped together and his tape broke and half his slide fell down fro mthe very top of the bleachers to the bottom of the bleachers....we all fell over laughing (cuz this was at a football game)
