The title says it all.

Name any part of the books/movies that made you cry, sad, forlorn, etc.

I'll start:

Dobby's death was very sad to me. His last words "Harry Potter" spoke a lot of meaning. It demonstrated Dobby's undying loyalty for Harry Potter as well as his concern to the young wizard. Another thing that made Dobby's death so sad was that JK Rowling tried to develop his character, a magical nonhuman as compared to MOST of the other magical creatures. crying

Cedric's death has always affected me the most. There's just something so tragic about his death for me, after thinking that he and Harry had both won, and his attitude to Harry the entire Triwizard Tournament, and then afterwards telling Harry to take his body to his parents and when Harry meets his parents and they are so distraught.
Fred's death also affected me a lot. Again, it's the tragedy of dying at such a tender age. The cruelty of it.
And Dobby's funeral also made me cry. It was the headstone, "Here lies Dobby, a free elf." It was really a beautiful thing for them all to do.

Fred's death was one of the things that hit me the hardest while reading. I mean, it happened right after Percy came back and was accepted back into family and Percy even made a joke and was smiling when it happened. I felt really bad for Percy and the entire Weasely family.

The part when Harry was about to face his death, and all the ghost people were around him...that was really sad.

I mean, when he asks "does it hurt?" to the people, it was just so tragic sounding. That was just so childish sounding and powerful...

Another part would [of course] be in Snape's memories. I got a little teary-eyed when he pledged his love for Lily. I'm not sure whether it was that sad, but it was powerful nonetheless.

Oh awesome thread but I think it should be marked Possible Spoilers!

I think the saddest part for me, or at least the part that made me cry the most would be all the flash backs in HBP. My book looked like I had dropped it in the sink by the end of the chapter! *tear*

Oh yea.
Snape's life is really sad in retrospect. I mean, I didn't really feel THAT much sorrow for him while reading HBP, but now when I actually think about his life from a wider perspective, like as in throughout the whole series, he did lead a miserable life...

It makes you re-think the opinions you have on him.

Yea, that's true. But when you actually think about it, most stories that have SOME sort of depth tend to have a seemingly "dark" character who apparently had a traumatizing/sad life.

OH, I just remembered another sad part...
When Collin Creevey dies, Harry's likes "He's such a small boy..."

Snape's death was particularly depressing. Especially once you learned why he was so cruel to Harry... Though it would have been a very sad death, Tonks and Lupin died without very much detail, kind of erasing them. Pretty pitiful, really.

I think the deaths that hit me the most would be between Hedwig's,Dobby's, and Fred's.

Hedwig had died and Harry hadn't had a chance to say how much he loved her before she went crashing down. The way she died was also sad, how she just fell to the ground in her little cage sad .

Dobby was so sad because he had died helping Harry because he wa sso loyal to him. Dobby's funeral brought me to tears. cry

Fed's was just tragic. How would George be able to live without him? Like Rayvyn said, he died right after he and his family had made up with Percy.

Most of book 7 was sad because of all the people that died.

Okay.

The first one would be Hedwig's death. It was just so sudden and unnecessary.

Dobby would be next. I just went wide-eyed and was all NOOOOO!

The one moment I think that makes me most sad was when Remus was talking about how he would have loved to see Teddy grow up. I sobbed in that part.

I'm sure other parts made me sad...I just can't think of one. I think some of them involve when Neville is being treated horribly by someone.

OH! When Luna talks about how people always take her stuff...that makes me sad.

Pretty much all character deaths were really sad.
But I agree with you that Dobby's death was especially grievous.
Umm, I also think that when Harry sees his family in the Mirror of Erised, it was also a really touching--not necessarily sad--moment.

I was very sad about Dumbledore's death when I read book 6 but now that I know he had to die anyway, I don't feel that sad about it.

I think it is sad that Snape had to die before everyone knew how brave he had been.

A very very sad part was the death of Harry's parents and when he finds Lily's letter in Sirius's old bed room. I think these moments are sad because they show clearly what a life Harry could have had.

The thing that makes me sad is Lupin and Tonks' death. JKR made it sound so blunt. Like their deaths were insignificant.
