I see alot of these top villians and good guys forums sprouting up why not just do one to encompase the characters everyone likes characters u simply like and admire in general form games

for example for me

Mr. Kelly from red dead revolver not only do I think hes bad as look at his atire he gives bad a** some style and class man and his quick draw is like no other the Govner griffons quick draw was a p***y comapared to Mr. kelly's

Gogandantes From Onimusha 2 now I fence so I am a good dswordsman but when I fought this guy in the game he impresed me so much cause he is everything a swordsman should be he has a certain code of honor in his combat he moves gracefully and with percise speed and always bows befor a battle after fighting him I started idolizing this dued man

those are just 2 I have more but I thought'd I'd turn the disscussion over to anyone whos gonna participate before I go on

Well, I tend to admire heroes over villains because even though villains are cool I don't admire them for their "evil deeds." and therefore I admire Link for being the strong silent protagonist. I actually also admire Samus Aran for the same thing. There are other minor characters as well I admire as well but I don't feel like posting more. lol

When you put it like that, he sounds like a b***h.

Saren is ambitious and smart. You wouldn't even have to play the game to tell these things about him. All you have to do is look at his face. Bioware is that good..

yeah u got a good point there with that one he does have that level of bad a** when u first meet him on eden prime and then when he whoops ur a** at the first concil meeting so I give him props for that

but how about Imran Zahkyevh from COD4 now that guy was a bad a** the puppet master on the side lines u don't find out about till close to the end and the cold way he went about shoooting the survivors of ur squad in the head at the end of the game now that guy was bad a** I'd put him and saren on the smae level with ambition coolness and evil bad a** like ability

You know what I find strange? This trimester I'm in a creative writing class, and I notice a lot of things about stories, plot, setting, etc.

In this case, I find it easier to admire bosses/villains because A) there are more of them, and B) they're active characters.

Compare a lot of the villains to the heroes. CoD4 is a GREAT example. Soap isn't the leader, but he's the one who has to do all the dirty work because he is a soldier. The bad guy (whose name I will not attempt) is the one pulling string and making Soap's life a living hell. Thus, the villain is more interesting.

All in all, though, I would like to be Link, Zero, or Samus. Link is just a cool character, and you really feel like you're doing the work when you're going through all of the puzzles. In a way, we're already Link. I just want the cool toys 3nodding . Zero is one of those characters that become complex when you read the history. Made by a bad guy, destined to be evil, but fights for good. More importantly, he blows s**t right teh ******** up (Vile in MMX1, Sigma in MMX5). Samus...is Samus. She's one of the few chicks that gaming men want to be AND do.

Sorry for the slight vulgarity, but seriously. There are a lot of HOTT vg chicks, but not a lot who can REALLY blow up entire planets.

I'm going to agree with SuperJawes on the villains.

Seeing as such I'll use Metal Gear as an example. Primarily Big Boss.

Through out the canon of Metal Gear, up until the events in the original MSX outings, Big Boss had been a "hero" in the perspective of the player. We watched him begin, peak, then fall. We learned his motivation, witnessed(sorta) his turn, and lived through his downfall. However in some respects the man wasn't wrong.

It's the journey from beginning to end that make the villains interesting because more often than not the hero has less development as a character in a world where the setting is painted in shades of gray rather than black and white.

For instance, Gordon Freeman, Master Chief, Link, Samus, Locke, and many other game heroes rarely face internal conflict if ever. They remain good, their actions are never painted gray, they're always fighting the villain. It's always for the greater good.

When you start to move into the gray it starts to become all about perspective. Such as one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. When people believe in someone, such as Big Boss, and their actions are motivated by a true belief in the cause it tends to become much more complex. Such as Zero brought up in SJs post. In COD4 the end would have never justified the means but the villains, in theory, weren't actually wrong. There are problems and people need to solve them. What made them villains were the way they were going about it.

very very true and that is why ur post brings me to Kane from Command and Conquer for me at least he is the epiphany of interest and bad a** and cool ness he is the character that remiinds us especialy through his game what really makes a hero good and what really makes a villian bad good and bad are mearly points of view I do not beleive Nod or kane is bad nor do I believe they are realy going about things in the wrong way they weren't really given a choice I beleive that they are misunderstood and cast as villians due to the fact that GDI drew first blood now they are in deadlock fighting for thier lives and at the same time trying to unlock the secrets of tiberium so they can actualy put it to some goood use at least in my mind these gray areas are the future for gaming because it makes us think and starts up great disscussions like this thye should not be overlooked

Big Boss is actually Naked Snake from MGS 3. Snake killed The Boss so he was renamed as Big Boss. But Naked Snake is not much different compared to Solid Snake. I think Ossolot was cool. But I would like to be Master Chief since he has a suit that lets him fall from any height and survive, he has cool weapons, and he is lucky.
