Have any of you had the joy of being in a wheel chair or crutches? People are so ignorant. They just move in front of you or don't move at all. A girl even cried at me because she'd never seen a wheelchair and was scared. What is the world coming to when a child is scared of a wheeled chair? I can understand why disabled people get angry and appear rude to others. Humans can be inconsiderate creatures u_u

I totally agree. I have a friend with MS who lives her whole life in a wheel chair. It's really sad and rage-provoking to see how people treat her...most of the time it's like she isn't even there. It disgusts me...

Ahh a specialty of able bodied people, talking over your head. That annoys the hell out of me. The use "She " and "Her" like you're dumb or not there gonk
You know people get those fake crying dolls that act like a baby to practice on? I reckon people should spend a day in a wheelchair to see what it's like. That would cut a lot of the ignorance down. 3nodding

I'm not in a wheelchair or crutches, but I know how you feel. I'm always made fun of because I can't socialize. Some people even pretend to be my friend as a joke. Apparently, they think I'm incapable of knowing that they're just pretending to be my friend because I'm "retarded". sweatdrop

I've never had a major thing to put me in a wheelchair, surprisingly. But, My mum was on crutches for a while, and people wouldn't stop stareing. This one girl would let us ride her wheelchair in school xd
Err, theres this one girl in a wheelchair whos mean. Very mean. I was walking in the hall, and she comes straight at me. Theres plenty of room for her, but she comes AT ME. I've been hit on my leg twice by her, and had to dodge her many more times. -_-' Shes just rude... The one time there was no one else in the hall o.o'

No wheel chair for me (yet. knock wood), but I'v had plenty of visible bracings and/or ace wrap.

One does, with time, get sick of explaining. Everyone feels free to ask. Even people one doesn't know. And there are times when it's clear they aren't concerned, just want someone to gawk at.

I've taken to writing 'don't ask' on ace wrap every time I get a new one. I've learned how to make my ankle braces look like a fashion statement.

I dont have anything so visible. but I dohave to deal with my jackass school every year to let me go to the bathroom when I have to, and then I always get into trouble when i have to go during a standardized test. its so stupid. one time I diddn't make it to the bathroom in time during school and i had to check out and i had to explain it to the office people. (we have a student run office, damn caddo parish schools) and they made fun of me and told the whole school.

Who told the school, the student people? That's disgusting. If they run the office they're supposed to be responsible. If they can't deal with it they shouldn't be in there.

well, actually it's the students who are lazy and alot of teachers like. you know the ones, who spend too much on clothes, suck up, play sports/ do cheerleading. those students. fortunatly that happened when I was a sophmoor and now im a senior so i dont have to hear it anymore but it's still angering to think about.

-Points to the "i'm NOT in the mood to be stared at..." sticker on the back of her chair and grins-

I like the people who point that out, amused...and say how cool it is...rather than pointing out my chair. :]

actually that might be a better thing
when I was in Korea, so many ppl stared at me...and not a stare in a good way. I was sick of it! And I never wanted to go out again.
But when I came to america, ppl acted like I wasn't even there and I felt FREE! I felt a whole lot better than ppl staring at me
