It wasn't often the stallion travelled near the sea, but there was something calming about the scent of salt water in the air and the soothing sound of the waves. But today was one of those days, trotting close enough to the shore that the tide splashed over his hooves as it came in over the sandy ground beneath him. It kicked up in small clumps as he moved, leaving tacks behind him to be washed away as if he were never there.
He had not seen another soquili for a while now, and he was concentrating so much on the sounds and smells around him that he nearly trampled over a small crab on the beach. Twisting away at the last second, the moment him sent him running partway into the water, nearly to he knees. Startled, he glanced back to make sure he hadn't harmed the small animal -- he was definitely a soquili of peace and respect for all nature -- and was relieved to see it scuttling away without a scratch.
Noble Heart sighed, for although the little crab was safe, he was now soaked up to his knees (and then some, for all the splashing). The water was too cold to stay in -- and he couldn't swim well, anyway -- so the purple stallion turned his back to the sea and began walking back to drier land.

Behind his back, a little head popped out of the water, blue and yellow, with big ear-like fins that swiveled in curiosity. Was it Stormwild or Sequoya coming to visit again? This is where they always met her?
But no... it was somebody else. Not many ground-soquili came around the beach that often she noticed, and despite how much graceful and at home she acted in the water, having been raised in the mountains it still felt somewhat odd to her.
She wiggled up, stopping when the water was shallow enough that she had to steady herself on her legs. Walking was always a lot harder to swim, but she liked to do it. She liked feeling her weight and the sand under her hooves.
Too bad she wasn't very....good at it.
She was jerky and clumsy, goosestepping without bending her joints to much as her tail flailed wildly behind her some semblance of balance. "Hello!" she cried to the stallion cheerily.

Noble Heart stopped in his tracks when he heard the voice behind him, one leg not quite touching the ground. Well, that was odd. He had been sure there were no other soquili around... and it came from behind him. Blinking, he set his hoof down in the shallow water and turned around. The unicorn was surprised at what he was -- he had heard of ocean dwelling soquili before, but never actually seen one. He was a little unsure if he should approach the mare or not, but her voice seemed friendly enough...
"Well, hello there," he greeted her back kindly, smiling, and noticing she seemed to have some... difficulty with walking. Instead of making her walk further, the stallion moved closer to her instead so that she didn't have to struggle with the distance. Noble Heart ducked his head down in a small bow, taking that time to really inspect the other creature -- strange fins on her face and down her neck and back, stopping at her... was that a fish tail?
He blinked, curiously, lifting his head back up. "Forgive me, I don't mean to stare... I have never met an ocean dweller before, although I have heard stories of your kind. My name is Noble Heart. I hope I'm not intruding?"

Mahi cocked her head curiosly at him at his bow, her ear fins waving forward, mimicing the swivel of her ears. It was true, most sea-dwellers did tend to be shy, but... no one seemed to give her that impression. She didn't relate well to them. They seemed so quiet and skittish. She grew up in the mountains, with a proud mother who always spoke her mind.
"Hi! I'm Mahi," she said, not seeming to mind the staring. "Do you come to the beach a lot? I haven't seen you before! And no, please.. not intruding at all. If you were, I wouldn't mind."
