Seriously, though, I've only played a demo of Resistance, and never bothered with Gears (too violent).

I think they're both pretty equal, but I like resistance's storyline a little bit better.
Graphics and online goes to Gears of War.
They both have their pros and cons

It's kinda hard to compare them, the back story in Gears of War is above and beyond fantastic, but the in game story has the depth of a thimble. Resistance has a great back story, and a great in game story.
Gameplay wise, they both are as solid as they can be in their respectable areas.
Graphically, while Gears is technically better, the Unreal III engine doesn't seem that stable on 360 hardware so things would get textured slowly and that kind of stuff can really detract from the gaming experience. Resistance is consistent and solid from start to finish, probably largely due to the ability to install the game to the PS3 hard drive.
Online is great for both games, but radically different, I love the team based action that Gears offers, but the ranking system and the massive scale of some of the matches in Resistance is great as well.
I'm a personal fan of both games, but my hat has to go to Resistance.

The thing I like more about Resistance is the A.I.
In Gears, aside from the occasional duck, they'll just stand there and allow you to shoot them.
The Chimeras REALLY duck/cover, sometimes they'll run at you and latch on, etc. I love the creepy/scary atmosphere in Resistance as well.

I was like "I thought this was supposed to be a launch title?" xd Insomniac is a fantastic developer, one of these days I'm going to really push for getting my copy of Resistance back because I need to do some more online play in preparation for Resistance 2... 60 ******** dude!

And what's this I hear about Resistance 2? Resistance 2 has 60 player online, it's going to be insane. Not to mention online Co-op. Halo 3, eat yonder heart out.
