Okay, the jazz quartet I'm in is playing a song in the school talent show. It'll be our first performance. The quartet consists of drums, bass, piano, and alto sax (me). Now, I'm not nervous at all about being the only one with the melody or playing a solo. I've solo'd plenty of times. But never in a small group and on stage! What the heck am I supposed to do while everyone else does their solos? Just stand there, doing nothing, looking like an idiot? gonk What do you guys do while the rhythm section is soloing?

Just relax, watch them do their thang, maybe bop your head along to the beat. Do whatever feels right

I stand there and look cute XD J/K
Actually i listen to their solo's and sometimes even cheer em on if i like it enough. Usually i'm just standing there and watch the soloist do their thang. One thing i dont like about playing in a small combo is that it leaves you out in the open when you make mistakes. In a bidband you can kinda just mix in if you make a mistake and hope nobody noticed. In a small combo people can really hear what your playing and i mean EVERYTHING o.o
