Zuriel surfaced with a splash, bobbing up and down in the gentle waves. He knew better now than to get too close inland so he had carefully chosen a place where the beach had dropped off a bit. These land...horses...intrigued him. So when he had seen one close enough to talk to he had made his way over. He turned until he had it fully in his sight. I think its female...but...my goodness she is fat! He stared at her, rather puzzled. "Um excuse me...excuse me" He called out louder. There simply has to be a reason behind something that odd...

Amara's hooves sank deep into the snow and sand on the beach. The fact that her weight had increased immensely due to her pregnancy didn't help with the snow sinking factor. The mare grumbled, "Oh for heaven's sake!" With careful effort, Amara was able to plow through the snow taking care not to jostle the bundle of life that now grew in her belly. Why did she even decide to come to the beach anyway?! During this time of year, the winds at the beach were colder then usual.
A voice from the sea distracted the mare as her eyes stared up to see a rather fantastically colored soquili... who could swim?! Curious, the mare carefully made her way closer to the shoreline but not close enough to cause her any physical walking hindrance. Another bought of grumpiness was bubbling up from the back of her mind bu the mare pushed it away. "Yes? What it is?" Amara asked with a rather weak forced smile.

Zuriel stared at the Soquili. Well it certainly sounds female. I wonder if there's something wrong with her...she doesn't seem to be mvoing right...but I really can't just ask her if she's fat...thats really just not polite. And its cold as well...I wonder what she's doing here...
Finally he realised that he was just staring at her. With a shake of his head he cleared his mind somewhat. "Excuse me Miss but is everything alright?" There that's not too bad...it shouldn't be offensive.

Amara blinked at the soquili in the sea. "Is everything all right? Look who's talking o' mer soquili who's out and about in this cold!" She thought to herself grumpily. "Errrr... what do you mean by that?" Amara couldn't help but reply with the weakest of smiles. "Gah! Pregnancy is so annoying! Where's my father when I need someone to snap at and actually enjoy it!"

Zuriel was stuck between a rock and a hard place Do I just ask her flat out? She did ask me what I meant...surely she's used to it if she's really just fat. And she's smiling which is a good sign. Poor innocent Zuriel looked her straight in the eye and with a voice filled with concern and worry asked her, "Ma'am did you know that you're well...rather large? Do you have a heath problem? Is there anything I can do to help?" Oh no, one question just wasn't enough.

Dark red eyes stared at the mer soquili for a while before anything happened. Amara suddenly broke into laughter at the other's questions. "Oh dear lord of the plains. Despite being an adult you have no idea about stuff like this?" Well, that shouldn't have been too surprising... she didn't expect to have been with child until Helaku confirmed it not long after. "I don't exactly have a health problem per se," the mare replied with a stifled laugh, "You see, I'm pregnant. You know, going to have kids, foals, younglings... the like." This... was going to be a long day... she saw it already...

At first Zuriel was a little surprised that she was laughing. A light dully flickered in the back of the brilliant(ly colored) stallion's mind. "That's kindof similar to the idea that that strange stallion had! I mean both of you act like having foals is such a big deal. I mean children are important, but stumbling upon a shell or what not isn't that amazing. What's truly amazing is how so many find shells that resemble themselves."
He grinned at her "and I guess all that extra...energy will be used up chasing after a little one. So I guess being 'pregnant' is like preparing for a foal? I understand now...I wonder what I'll look like when I'm pregnant."

If Amara could have comically fallen down, she would have. This male was more ignorant then she thought. Where had he been all his life? Hiding in a shell from others? "Errrr..." A strange expression fell on her face. You got the general idea of it down... except... females are the only ones who actually give birth to foals. Males help... but they don't give birth..." Though she had heard about some sea animal who could but it was still the female who did most of the work... "I'm sure you'll understand when you find a girl you like... I mean, it is a pretty natural occurrence in life..." This was so awkward...

The light snuffed out. "Well I understand that there is usually a mother and father for a foal...but what exactly is 'giving birth?' Is that..." he struggle to think "naming the foals? Finding them? Coaxing them out of their shells and baskets? I know a few nice girls that I'm friends with but neither of them have become pregnant..."

The strange look on the mare's face stayed there. "Someone please take this poor guy away and give him a good biting to wake him up" A sigh escaped Amara before she replied again. "Look here. 'Giving birth' means that the foals growing inside my belly will eventually come out. Only until then are they place in baskets, or shells in your case, until they're old enough and strong enough to come out." As she said that, one of the foal's began to squirm around inside her rather uncomfortably. With a grimace of sorts, the mare shifted her weight to accommodate her needs for comfort.

Zuriel just smiled at her and nodded. And then what she said sank in. Instead of flailing about his physical body basically shut down. His mind, however, was in absolute chaos. Did she just say the foals growing inside her?! Like some sort of sick parasite feeding on her?! How do they even get out?! His body finally began moving on its own accord, one of his blue eyes twitching ever so slightly. Next was his right leg, which struck out at the water in an attempt to distract him. But his mind wouldn't rest. How do they even get in there?! He began to shiver, and not because of the winter air. "Miss...are...are you go-going to be alright?"

""The question is are YOU all right?" The dark mare thought as she stared at the stallion go into what seemed like a convulsion of some sort at the thought of having children growing inside of something. "Yeah... eventually I'll be fine. Foals tend to get uncomfortable in 'there' when they're growing so they'll move around a bit. Part of the joy and baggage that comes with being parents. And considering that I'll most likely give birth to at least two foals, it does get rather discomforting... but..." A soft smile suddenly crossed over the mare's face, "I'm sure that most mothers are more then willing to go through all this to have children. Its very rewarding in the end." Amara couldn't help but chuckle a little. "Be glad you're a stallion. When you find a mare you like, be sure to take good care of her if you ever have children."

Zuriel tried to calm himself. At least it can't happen to me ran over and over again in his mind, his saving grace. Finally he rasped out a reply "I just dont know if I could cause anyone to go through that...it sounds so awful. Especially not someone I like." He watched her, she seemed to be ok, but once in a while it didn't quite seem so...uncomfortable she had said. His tone changed to one of curiosity. "Do you really not mind going through all of this?"

"Well... I admit that it was a bit unexpected and maybe I'm not ready to really have children... But for their sake and for the sake of the one I care about, this discomfort really isn't much." The dark colored mare laughed. "Its not like it'll happen all the time you know! And if you still have doubts about having children, you should talk about it to the one you like when you think you're ready." Dark hooves shifted around the sand again, this time trying to get a better footing in the ground. Slush was a terrible thing to walk through, especially when it turned icy.

"Yes, but its one thing to accept discomfort for someone you care about. Its completely different to cause the one you like to have pain of any sort." His words were soft, a glimpse of something other than his usual cheerful and "special" personality. And then he lost his focus. "Miss are you ok? That land looks a little odd, is it good for someone in your state?" Hmpfh those silly land-dwellers aren't nearly as graceful as us Mers
