Kashinori scurried through the tall grass, making sure she never lost the scent of the fox she was tracking. The menace had been killing prey in her territory for a while and she wouldn't put up with it any longer. "Come out you bushy little pest... I'll show you what it means to steal from me!" She hissed under her breath. Suddenly the scent grew stronger, and Kashi looked about in surprise not thinking she had gotten so close to the fox. All of the sudden the grass in front of her rustled and without time to react, the fox lunged itself at Kashi's throat. She yelped and snarled angrily tears the fox off of her neck with her front paws and holding it to the ground by its neck. She growled at it whilst it squirmed in her grasp, "Why you little... This will be the last time you taste anyone else's blood but your own..." Kashi bit down hard on her foxes throat severing it and killing the fox quickly. She lifted her head and looked around defiantly as if daring anyone else to trespass on her territory.

Reaol had taken a stroll away from the family den. Most dragonfly adults would have been long gone by now but somehow his family kept him close. Family. No more than an excuse to torture, ignore, and humiliate someone. Being the "runt" of sorts had created a unique outlook on the world for him. He hated his mother and father and yet he still yearned to find a way for them to see him more that perfect Basalt, fragile Frost, and confident Cobalt. Their names gave a bad taste in his mouth. He needed to get rind of it.

He rose his muzzle to the wind and sniffed for some sort of prey. A small fox was nearby, but hed have to hurry if he wanted it becuase another df was close....no there. What is wrong with him? He can't even get his food without someone else beating him there. Cobalt's face danced in front of him,
"come on loser can't you even beat a girl to your prey!" Basalts appeared now.
"Yeah Reaol, why don't you practice more?" then frost.
"See Reaol, we can't depend on you!"Reaol snarled loudly and with all the force he could muster sliced through a thin tall plant stalk in one swoop. "DAMN IT ALL!!!!" he roared.

Kashi's head snapped up and she jumped to her feet as an unfamiliar males voice sliced through the air in anger. Her hackles rose, the fur on the back of her neck flaring out while her snout scrunched into a fearsome snarl. She scratched the ground with her claws and howled in defiance letting out a demeaning growl-like bellow, "Who goes there! Trespassers are not welcome!" She began to prowl forward through the grass, never once stopping her roaring growl.

Reaol scoffed angrily as when he heard the females warning from a short distance. Just what he needed and hormonal female to tell him where he could and could not go. "A stuff it hag this is an open forrest and no one is going to tell me where I can and can not go."He angrily walked towards the female and slashing at stalks as he passed them. Basalt's voice rang in his mind.
"You can't talk like that to a lady!" Reaol scoffed at that. She definitely didn't sound like a lady from that growl he could hear. He saw her prowling through the grass and sat down to wait for her. He wasn't really looking forward to a confrontation, especially one with a female that as far as he could tell could give his father a run for his money. He sliced another stalk with his claws and then picked it up in his mouth sucking on the end of it.

Kashi snarled, listening to the males voice cut through the air, and she howled, "Shut it punk! Just like a mouse-brained male, always think they own the forest..." Kashi prowled through the tall grass, her muscles rippling under her fur, tensing as she got closer. It took all of her might not to lunge at the males throat that instant, but she decided not to be hasty. Finally the grass parted and revealed, a rather shiny silver male seated in front of her. Once again Kashi's hackles rose, and her mouth curled into a nasty snarl exposing all her sharp teeth, "Give me three good reasons why I should break every bone in your nasty little body you disrespectful trespassing twit?!"

Reaol scoffed at her while he continued to suck on his plant stalk. His posture showed the opposite of respect for the green female as she spouted orders at him quite forcefully. He hated confrontation. Why couldn't dragonflies communicate intellectually instead of just biting someone? His eyes wandered about looking at the trees and tall grass."You want three reasons? Fine. How about for one that the forrest belongs to no one. It is here for all to enjoy and live freely and together." as he said these words his tone was not one of seriousness but almost one of indifference. As if he'd heard or said them a million times in a lecture."Two, if you insist on claiming a piece of the forrest you should have done your research. This part of the forrest shares its home and nutrients with my fathers rather large pack, and three no matter how much i could wish to thank you from the grave for killing me, I'm sure my pack would unfortunately maul your beautiful fur. They don't take kindly to those who wish to break up the family. Oh and not to mention the crazed red dragonfly who would assume you were one of us and kill you." He swiped at a few more stalks and replaced his current one."Would you like a stalk?"

Kashi's fur bristled but she forced herself to settle down and sit. "And here is my rebuttal to your reasons, I have long since claimed this territory as my own you..." Kashi trailed off and swallowed her angry words, her mother would not have wanted her to act like this. "I choose to protect this rather small portion of land around my den, because it gives me satisfaction to have the ability to say I have a home. I bet I have lived here long before you were even born. And though I live alone, I do not go without allies who would seek vengeance either, and by me killing you and your family killing me and my friends attacking your family, I concur it would start a rather unnecessary blood feud, so I shall drive all violent thoughts from my mind, but that doesn't not drive away my anger." Kashi wrapped her tail around herself, though she could help the twitch the tip agitatedly. She began to recollect fact of what had just happened, and replayed his three reasons in her head. "So why do you seem so keen on dying? I would probably ask you about this red dragonfly you speak of, but that seems a bit nosy don't you think?" Kashi bit back a snarl, and dug her claws into the ground as she tried with all her might to keep calm and polite as her mother would have wanted her to be.

"So you don't want a stalk then? Oh well..." he sighed and shredded it up. he was actually quite surprised that a fight had not yet broken out. He could see her tension and knew she was trying hard to not lash out. Impressive. She must have a strong will he thought. Yet she was un-informed about the land which she called her home."You know, it could be your home just as well as a squirrels or the fox you claimed. It's also home of the bugs, of the dew, of practically everything under and above you, so i wouldn't be so hasty in claiming it as only your home. Furthermore,my family has been here long before you were born my sweet and not the other way around. i believe my parents started their den here when they were pups after a tragic accident." he wouldn't bore her with the family drama he just wanted her to realize he faults so further description was not needed. He chewed at his stalk for a moment and then gave her an honest concerned look. For the first time he seemed to be serious in their meeting. "And don't speak of blood feuds for there is already one going on right underneath your nose. Your right, to ask about the red dragonfly would be nosey, but also necessary. he does not hunt for us alone so be on your guard if you intend to call this edge of your forrest home with all its other inhabitants...."his serious nature completely left him now and he yawned letting the stalk fall from his mouth."..but anyways lets not talk of such things. Its depressing."

Kashi snarled and took a deep breath before snapping back, "I don't need a brat like you to be telling me who my territory belongs too. I take care of all in my territory, and that fox was troublesome and killing off unneeded prey, leaving behind uneaten carcasses. I've tried to drive it out of this place I protect, but it continued to return and cause more havoc. I gave it a few chances, and since it didn't comply I killed it for the good of all the creatures that live around me. I don't need to justify my actions, because they are never done for me alone. Since I have lived alone almost all my life and plan on continuing to do so, what else can I do but treat nature like me family... never..." Kashi gulped back her emotions that were getting caught in her throat, "NEVER think I would do anything to hurt my fellow creatures unless necessary in the long run."

Kashi took a breath and shook her head... "I will not inquire about your family or past, since you do not seem keen on talking about. I don't care who owns what territory, but we have never had any troubles with having territories so close to one another, so I have no intention of going anywhere." Kashi slowly began to calm down, glad she could now express her displeasure and anger through intellectual debate instead of through blood shed.

Reaol rolled his eyes. She had so much to learn about nature. "I was not telling you off for killing a fox. I eat meat as well. I was merely reffering to the fact that there is no such thing as yours, mine or theirs. Everything on this planet is ours....." Cobalt's large empty head appeared before him and he stammered a little.
"What do you mean loser. just because you can't obtain our own territory doesn't mean the rest of us can't claim one for ourselves." Reaol shook it off and continued. He didn't want to lose it again because talking to this girl was actually stimulating. She was trying so hard and even seemed pleased with herself. He wanted to keep going and not even Cobalt could stop him. " ...it's ...it's shared by everyone and everything no matter how insignificant. Oh and those uneaten carcasses your so worried about, actually help many of the other creatures in this forrest. Plants, bugs, parasites, scavengers, injured dragonflies who can' hunt, they all depend on those to live. So what that fox was doing was just a simple part of the circle of life." he had noticed an uneaten carcass nearby him and he moved it aside with his paw. A mouse ran out of its bones and a colony of insects lived right below."See?"
"Come on Reaol...what is a bunch of bugs to me?" Cobalt's head had retuned but with an imaginary body this time.he was stamping on the bugs. Reaol's temper was short now and the slightest growl emanated from inside him even though he tried with all his might to suppress it. ".....anyways....I'm not saying any of this because i want you to leave, quite the opposite. You can listen to reason. Thats quite a rare feat around here and i enjoy it. i like you...I'n my own weird way."
"AWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEE" now it was all three. Frost, Cobalt, and Basalt."Is Reaol trying to make a friend?" said basalt with a condescending tone.
"She doesn't like you...no one does." Added Cobalt.
"I thought i was your friend?" protested frost. At this point Reaol had his eyes closed and was just sitting there silently.

Kashi watched the male with a burning hate in her eyes, How DARE he put down the way I live... I've saved more dragonflies lives through my and my mothers studies in healing than he could count!!! How DARE he teach me about the worths of life and death... he has a good debate, but I do not agree with it. That fox was over killing, and even if the dead bodies are helpful, dead mothers and dieing babies that contributed to the population that keeps this air head male's stomach full, were dieing without necessity... and THAT I don't consent with... Kashi's thoughts stopped and she nodded, "You make a valid point... but things die often enough without the help of a murderous fox. And the ones that were dieing were neither sick nor frail and the strong ones were being picked off which directly affects the strength of the entire population..." Kashi trailed off and peered at Reaol with genuine concern lacing her eyes when he seemed to shrink and suddenly hide inside himself. As much as she despised the male, she hated seeing anyone in pain even more. "Are you alright? You seem a bit pale... do you feel sick? If your stomach hurts I have something that could help that..." Kashi's eyes grew wide and she clamped her jaws shut, "Not... not that I care or anything. Its just my mother would claw me to shreds if I neglected to help any sick or injured creature..." Kashi trailed off and shifted uncomfortably.

Reaol took several deep breaths and shook his head a little. The voices dimmed and visions faded. He sighed. She still didn't get it. He didn't understand why there were so many who thought they could change the natural order of life. Nature took care of itself."I'm fine...really and theres nothing you have that could help me. No one can." He sliced another stalk and sucked on itagain. It seemed to help him concentrate. He apriciated her concern for others, though slightly misdirected, she was smart." You want to help others? Thats great...its a great trait creatures, but you can't change the way the world works. Nature will fix itself dear. If a fox kills too many prey, than the prey will adapt until the fox can no longer do so. He will then adapt to become stronger and more cunning than his prey. It's the natural way of the world. If we go killing off creatures we deem to be harmful to our enviornment were going to throw off the balance of nature." He looked about him. He had watched the plants grow, the bugs feed, the birds fly, the fox hunt and he had never once found that natures way was wrong. It always worked out in the end. He wanted to be able to talk to this female more, she was so interesting, though in his eyes poorly educated an the ways of nature. "So...your mother..she teaches you about herbs?" His paws shuffled a little, then he looked up at her sucking on his stalk.

Kashi began to feel that the male was right, but she still didn't see how over killing anything could be helpful. She listened to him intently and frowned, her lips curling up into a snarling smile, "Wanting to help is unnecessary. I don't feel the want to do any such thing; it’s more of a need. If I left something injured or sick out to live in pain and misery until death, I probably wouldn't be able to go to sleep at night. And my mother would most likely get wind of it and it'd be the end of me." Kashi thought of what she would say next carefully, not wanting to reveal to much about herself before she got to know more about this male. "My mother spent her life studying herbs, her life when she was a pup is very vague in her stories, until she reaches the part when she becomes inspired to learn as much about herbs and plants as dragonfly'ly possible. She is also an excellent story teller, very creative.... and she is vicious when it comes to protecting something or someone she cares for, she said that’s so because she didn't fight for someone enough when she was young and lost one of her only friends... anyways, that’s unimportant." Kashi thought more about what he just said and pondered aloud, "And when did you learn so much about nature. You remind me of my mother in that aspect, the fact that your arguments always seem so valid and correct." Kashi grumbled to herself, but accepted defeat in the debate gracefully rather than continue to fight in vain.

Reaol smiled, it was a very valid question. Especially after one has considered to give in. "Like your mother, I too have dedicated my life to the observation of nature. I didn't like to be at home very much so ever since i was a small pup i examined every bit of it. The plants, soil, bugs, birds, fish, deer..all of it. I just watched ad learned. I even tried to observe the fish as well as my father...but sadly I'm not as heavy as him and so i can't observe for an extended period of time. Something I'm working on but still...does that sastify your question?" he looked at her chewed is stalk. He hoped that would be enough. He wasn't an expert yet, no, but he knew he still had much more to learn and was looking foreword to it. it seemed to keep him away from his family enough to keep the voices at bay for a while. That in itself was rewarding.

Kashi pondered and began to decipher and interpret all that the male was saying, many thoughts running through her mind at once that she had to put in order. This male obviously doesn't like his family all the much, but of course they are still his family so he feels a bond with them that would explain why he is still even with them. He loves nature a lot, much like my mother, but in a different way, he studies nature to escape from life and my mother does it to learn about life. Well... I AM just assuming that but... it seems very likely to be true. He doesn't seem that happy about how is life id going, but masks his unhappy feelings by drowning himself in studies. Hmmm.... I wonder what this is about his father being very heavy... its odd, because my mother is actually unnaturally light, like she has a birds hollow bones... his father seems quite the opposite... Kashi's mind began to wander, but she stopped herself before it go too far and shook the multitude of thoughts from her mind.

"Sure I guess... it was a rhetorical question, but your answer is actually rather clarifying." Kashi smiled to herself and quirked her eyebrows at the male and she opened her mouth about to say something a tad bit rude, but she caught herself and shook her head again, changing her mind. "I always loved bugs, they usually fascinate me more than any other living thing. Just the way they are all different, and seem to have their own personalities, I might even call them my friends...." She trailed off and wondered if she said something odd. "N...n... not that I'd need bugs for friends or anything...."
