Within this note book are the notes of famous Xenobiologist and Anthropologist Gast Gangas who worked and researched the mysteries of planet Mars for nearly 22 years (some say it was 30 but the doctor tends to be forgetful from the years of adventures and researches) in post-Red Mars Colonization Project failure and post-Armageddon.

Living on Mars for years was both heaven and hell for the lizard man. Heaven for all the data he got and hell from the sandstorms the red planet and lack of food and ink and writing material (which is brought by the Alien Minds Team agency to bring him the supplies he needs to continue his work).

Over the years, he found what he said “Mars’ missing treasure” as he found the evidence of the Crusnik culture and the Methuselah Bacillus that his ancestors hid before leaving the dead planet. He studies the mysteries of these discoveries and came up with theories of what happen on the planet.

First, he learns about the bacillus which he dubbed “Methusis Bacillus”.

1. The discovery of the bacillus
I headed for the hidden caverns to understand more of my people. Before they left the planet after a meteor crashed on Mars, they left behind wall paintings of the events after of the meteor’s fall.

The paintings showed the Gangas’ falling ill to a disease that was carried by the meteor, followed by them running away or dying from the sun and the other was long fanged Gangas’ drinking the blood of their livestock and their own kind. Curious of what happen, I keep walking as the paintings became darker and dreadful. The virus made half the people into vampires and were killed by silver weapons or dragged outside to die from the sun’s rays. Overwhelmed, the remaining Gangas flew off to another system and left the infected to die, either killing each other for blood or by the mysterious Crusnik nanomachines they made.

I set my lantern down and began writing and drawing in my book to gather the information I got. I don’t know how long I was in there but after hours of being in there, the sounds of an upcoming sandstorm was heard. Gathering my things, I left the cave; I was hit by the storm. It took me at least fifteen minutes to find my way back to base.

Before I removed my suit, I gather the sand that blew on me into a test tube to test the sand. I don’t know what possessed me to do that but I was glad that I did because after a few days later and looking at the sand in the microscope, I have found what could be the suspect of Mars’ downfall.

2. The bacillus itself
The bacillus I found in the sand was truly amazing. The virus that infected the people was an air borne space-faring germ. It must’ve entered their bodies by inhaling or going into open wounds. How they survived after millions of years that it could’ve made a protective shell to protect itself from the sun.

Curious what would happen if a drop of my blood would do to it, the germ attack my blood cells and began changing the DNA structure in the cells. It took nearly 24 hours for the cells to mutate. If that did that to a host, they will transform within a week or less.

After seeing what it can do to my blood, I wanted to see what happens after putting it out in the sun.
The blood suddenly let out a thin line of smoke. Looking under the scope, I found out that the bacillus had died from the sun exposure. It seems that the germ is weak against the strong UV rays upon exposure. But without a host, it seals itself in a shell and floats in the air until it enters the host’s body.

Upon remembering my time with the people in the Red Mars Colonization Project before Armaggeddon, the people came down with a bug and had the same effects that the paintings shown; avoiding sunlight, fangs and craving for blood. And hearing that germ infected millions on Earth, the infected people named themselves the Methuselah (the name “Vampire” is more like an insult to them).

And seeing that the bacillus is the one that caused the events, I gave it a name.

The name is Methusis Bacillus.

3. The mutation of the host
When the bacillus enters the body of the host, it injects itself into the blood cells, causing the DNA structure to change and make the host to become the legendry dark creatures that we know in folklores. But unlike the vampires in myth, they are alive, can reproduce, eat normal food and sleep anytime they want.

But why do they feed on blood? The bacillus provides energy from blood. If it needs fresh blood, the host will find prey and drink fresh blood. If the germ starves, the host will go into a bloodlust and kill anything to get blood. To keep the bloodlust away, the Methuselah uses a pill that I made years ago to help the infected from praying on others. One pill in water will make the water turn red like blood and have the same taste.

What’s amazing that the germ can give the host not only a long life span but superhuman abilities as well.

The main abilities are Haste, fast healing and using parts of the body as sharpen blades. Haste causes the body to hyperactivate its nervous system to increase speed, making them to dodge bullets or melee attacks. Because it burned up the body’s energy, they couldn’t use it for long periods of time.

The blades is unique, the finger nails, skin or hair becomes harden and sharp. They can even grow at any types of lengths. The most rarest abilities is controlling the elements of fire and ice. The element powers could be from the germ’s ability to control the energy from the mitochondria to warm up or lower the body temperature of the host.

And since the hosts can reproduce, their offspring can carry the bacillus as well upon birth.

Some people think that after getting bitten by a Methuselah, they will be also be infected as well. There have been cases but it is really rare and the phenomenon has been called “conversion”. How it works is still being worked on.

4. The bacillus’ weakness
In the paintings and file accounts, the Methuselah are weak against silver and the UV rays from the sun.

The sun question is very simple; some germs are very weak against heat and strong sunlight. The bacillus is so weak that if it goes near sunlight, it will burn to death, same thing to the hosts.

Silver is something that made me study all night to figure out why the germ is weak against it. I have found out that this metal has ions and compounds that shows a toxic effect on some bacteria, viruses, algae and fungi, making a reason why Methusis Bacillus is weak towards the metal.

5. A cure for the germ
Upon the appearance of the bacillus on Earth, doctors are trying to find a cure to rid the germ. Many either failed or died in the hands of the Methuselah, saying that a cure will destroy the New Human race.

Some day, we might study more about this unique specimen and find a cure.
