All was dark, there was nothing. Then he opened his eyes, and a world of colors, light and shapes flooded into his mind, causing the creature to flinch, slapping something soft and padded against his face, and somehow he knew, without knowing how he knew, that this was a paw. That he had four of them and knew what they were called, and squinting he could look around and see a tall structure, which he knew was a tree. He thought nothing of it, though, and sat up, looking back to his body, pondering on the slashes of both claws and things in water, and that terrible pain he felt on his.. head. He also knew he was sitting in shallow water, but he couldn't remember how he'd gotten there. He'd simply been fortunate that his nose had been outside.

But now.. all he was, he was confused. He was a lion, bright orange mane and paler fur, sky-blue eyes... His subconscious was working, telling him what was what, how to speak, things he'd learned.. but when did he learn them? What was 'them'? He thought back, and couldn't see a thing, nothing. And yet, he also knew this was unusual.

"What happened.. ? " The lion mumbled, standing up in the water and closing his eyes tight, stumbling away from it and opening his eyes once more, wincing at the throbbing of his head. Sighing, he looked around. There wasn't much marking his confused mind, he saw the savannah spread out; the lion had been fortunate, drifting down a river that crocodiles weren't interested in. What was there to do? Where would he go? What was he? A lion. Who was he? Why was he here? What had happened? A million questions drifted through his mind, overflowing eachother untill finally, the lion let out a scream.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! SHUT UP! "

He had to calm down. The lion shakily flopped on the pebbles next to the river, corvering his eyes and flattening his ears. What the heck was going on?!

Alamar knew he as out of his usual bounds but he was too innocent to realise that the reason for those boundries were for his own safety. He was a young cub, not that long out of his kitten-spots. So it was out of good hearted devilment he was down by the rapids. He'd come up with a game. He'd fling two or three sticks into the water, then along the muddy bank to see which made it to a designated spot first. After a while however, chasing and racing sticks got boring.

So he wandered along, knowing further on there were crocodiles and hoping to get a glimpse of one before he ran home. But near the rapids end, he came across a rather wet lion...and hid in the grass and reeds to see if he was friendly. Dangerous he didn't consider, since all the Pridelanders he'd ever known had been safe - but he didn't like the grumpy ones and would avoid them.

He blinked, opening one eye over his paws and tilting his head flicking and ear. Cubs weren't exactly masters of stealth, and though the rushing of water had helped Alamar on his sneaky approach, for some reason, the lion knew what signs meant someone else was around. He'd heard one, one misplaced step.

"Who's there? " He asked, though didn't really look up. He didn't quite know exactly what to do, now did here?

"Just me." Alamar called out, wincing. He really did need to work on his hiding skills. They were fine for hide or seek or for wandering off when he wanted to. WIth other cubs he did great! But adults had superdooper special good powers of detection and could easily find him half the time.

He sat up and tilted his head at the wet lion. Wait, if he was wet, had he been swimming? That was silly. Momma said you should only swim in a certain couple of water holes, the smaller shallow ones. Down here where crocodiles - which Alamar expected were very very grumpy - and rapids - which looked fun actually...but sorta not-nice.

"You shouldn't go swimming here. There's crocadills."

Squeaky. That sounded.. squeaky. Cub.. cub-like. Cub, he knew what that was. The offspring of a lion, or a cheetah, or a leopard.. How did he know this?! "Oh. " He said quietly, though still didn't look up. For some reason, he felt he wasn't crazy about cubs. Lazily lifting his sore head, he located the cub, blinking. He probably didn't see them much, but they didn't look so bad...

Why didn't he like them again? "Its 'crocodile.' " He said, then paused slightly. How did he know that? "And I wasn't swimming. "

"You fell in the rapids then?" Alamar said, though in his head he was now busy repeating 'crocodiles' as a word until it sounded more like the lion had said rather than his cubspeak version. Words weren't so bad, much better than math, but he did still pronouce some words funny.

"No.. " He said. "I.. " The lion paused thoughtfully. He probably had gone through the 'rapids', that explained the horrible ache on the back of his head, and how bruisy his whole body felt.

"I guess I did. " The orange male shrugged, fixing his blue eyes on the cub. "Whats your name? "

" If you're hurt we should take you to the other adults, so you can get better-ed." He interjected. Doctored, in other words. Groomed by a kind nanny and tucked in a nice warm den if you fell in the river maybe (if you were a cub anyway) he thought.

"And I'm Alamar. M'Chipo and Mchengo's son. Might have seen them around Priderock but I don't know." The gold tipped cub was used to being asked who his parents were and since he adored his family, he was always happy to offer the information. But then a thought struck him. While there were way too many lions in the pride for him to know them all, he couldn't be sure every lion he met was one. And they were near the border...

"You're in the Pride, right?"

"I'm fine. " He huffed, folding an ear back slightly. Cheeky little kid, wasn't he? "Priderock.. " He quirked a brow at this. Alamar mentioned it like it was.. pretty important, and et, he had no recollection of it. Come to think of it.. he had no recollection of anything at all.

"No. " At least I don't think so. He said, lacking much emotion in his voice. Just a flat out 'no' for this Alamar. "Why do you ask? " He flicked his tail idly, curling it around his paws.

"Just wondering. I've never met a rogue before. Or a traveler from another pride or whatever you are." He shrugged. Well, you had to respect your elders and all, but he firmly placed this guy in the grumpy catagory.

"I see. " He narrowed his eyes, looking around and taking in the landscape. He should.. probably get moving soon, but he might as well entertain this cub a bit longer.

"Rogues go all over the place. You'd probably find some more easy. " He thought so, anyway. It sounded right to him, somehow, but he still wasn't sure from where he was getting this.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 16, 2008 5:30 pm

"I'm not supposed to be even this near the borders, so I probably won't meet any more until I'm much bigger." Alamar shifted noticeably. He neaded his claws into the muddy ground a few times, thinking. He didn't get why it was so dangerous to be down here (he was so young after all he thought crocodiles were just a bit cranky) but he did get the guilt. Now the fun had worn off...

"Its probably for the best. Some aren't above hurting a cub. " He said idly, though without exactly realizing that he spoke of himself. He didn't remember who he was, who he'd once been. So.. he had no idea that he'd once done the exact thing.

"You best go on. " He said, waving a paw dismissively. "And I'll be on my way. " If I have a way. With a sigh, the lion stood, and began to move away. He was taking this.. quite well. then again, there's no exact way to react to amnesia, was there?

Hurt cubs? The most hurt he'd ever felt was when his brother bit his tail too hard. He couldn't imagine yet all the hurt a full grown male could do to him. Still, he was just a little scrap of a thing yet.

"Yeah...I'd better get back to my momma. Take care of yourself!" He smiled, and started bounding off towards home. Not too rushed, but he did feel like he shouldn't be there anymore.

The grumpy lion was fine by himself anyways.
