Shikoba was laying under his favourite willow tree, next to the lake where he had first met Aishwarya. He had a calm smile on his face as he looked out at the miracle that was now playing by the lake. He had become the father of two beautiful girls, and nothing could make him happier than he was right now.
Her little feet were in the shallows of the water. She giggled as tiny little fish swam around them, tickling her every now and then. She turned around to look at her father every once in a while, just to make sure he was still there. They were waiting for her mother and her sister. They had planned on meeting here today.

Aishwarya drifted along slowly, the end of her braided tail bobbing along behind her. The reason for the moving tail came into view as her daughter Nivriti had it gripped between her teeth, her winglets flapping her along as skipped behind her mother. The mare winced as the filly tripped, rolling into the tail and tugging it as she did so...
'Sorry Maman,' Nivriti said as her mothers head turned and she looked at her. Her tail drooped a little, expecting a rebuke.
Aishwarya let out a sigh, giving her tail a lazy flick; 'It is okay, it's still attached - see?' and she carried on walking as the water of the Lake came into view.
Nivriti's posture changed and she flicked her own short tail, kicking forwards and scampering after her mother. She saw Nituna first, and wanted to go straight over and play, but at a small noise from her mother she went and paid her respects to her father first. 'Greetings Papa.' she said, in a solemn little voice, dipping a bow at Shikoba, her winglets open as she did so.
Aishwarya stifled a smile behind Nivriti, giving her mate an amused look at their daughter's antics.

Shikoba stood up as the two came into view. His smile widened as he saw his other daughter skipping along behind Aishwarya. When she bowed to him, he returned it with a light nod of his head.
"Good morning, Nivriti. Did you sleep well?"
Shikoba looked up at his mate and returned her smile. It felt so good to be part of a family, and to watch their two young daughters.
Nituna heard her mother and her sister approach and she spun around, slipping on the slick ground of the banks. She made a rather loud splash into the shallow water, and giggled at herself. She quickly stood up and made her way to the rest of her family under the tree.
"Hi momma! Hi Nivriti! We've been waiting for you guys!"
She showed a great contrast from her sister in more than just her looks. She didn't speak as formally as her, and didn't mind if she was sopping wet as she ran to her mother and wove around her in a hug.

Aishwarya stretched over her daughter, brushing her nose against Shikoba's. 'Hello..' she said warmly, then bent her neck to nuzzle her dripping other daughter who had pressed her wet pelt against her mother. 'Hello Nituna.' she replied. 'I see you're having fun.'
'Yes Papa,' Nivriti nodded as she straightened from her bow, her nose taking on a little wrinkle as she watched Nituna drench Aishwarya's legs. Her sister was much more outgoing, and obviously hadnt been taught the same manners by their father as she had by their mother. 'Hello sister.' There was almost a tone of disapproval in the filly's voice.
'Go play..' Aish propelled Nivriti towards Nituna. She hadnt seen Shikoba since the foals had emerged from their baskets, she had missed him and wanted to catch up.
Nivriti nodded obediently, and wandered over to the Lake edge to see what had fascinated her sister so much.

Nituna could sense the disapproval in her sister's voice, but she didn't really care. Why waste time trying to be all proper and polite when there was so much fun to have? She ignored the tone and hurried back to the lake.
"Come and see, there's tiny little fish down here and if you stay still long enough, they'll rub up against your legs, and it tickles! I'll race ya!"
Shikoba smiled as his daughters headed off towards the lake and turned towards Aish.
"Its really good to see you again. Its been a while. How have you two been doing?"
It was a little strange that they were raising their children separately, but it seemed to be the best way to do things. But it was definitely interesting to see how different their upbringings were.

Nivriti merely trotted after her sister; what was the point in running? She had wings after all and she was far more interested in being able to fly once they had developed properly. She'd managed after much effort to leave the ground for a few inches but no more. 'Fish?' she peered into the water, nose a-wrinkle again as she watched the cold bodies flicking around in the liquid. 'Don't they just feel slimy?'
'Well..' Aishwarya drew closer to Shikoba, tucking her head under his chin for a moment and then moved slightly, her flank pressing against his. 'I've missed you. Nivriti has been attempting to fly, it's quite funny to watch,' she confessed with a chuckle. 'And how is Nituna doing? Have I missed any great developments?'

"No, they're not slimy!! They're all scaly and stuff. It hurts a little if they go sideways, but usually it just tickles! Here, put your feet in and try it!"
She stood still, her little hooves in the shallow water. The little fish swam around cautiously, occasionally getting close to examine her feet. After a while, they got braver and closer. She giggled as they brushed up against her, feeling their scaly bodies slide past her.
He lowered his chin, holding her close. He really had missed her. It had been a while since they had seen each other, and he didn't realize until now how much he truly had missed her.
"I've missed you too, Aish. Its different without you. And I can imagine how amusing it would be to watch her."
He chuckled and looked out at their two daughters, Nituna giggling at the fish, and Nivriti looking from the edge.
"They are very different, aren't they? Nituna hasn't had any major changes yet. Just growing up. She doesn't take after one of us more than the other. She's her own free spirit."
He smiled, looking at the daughter that he had been spending so much time with lately.

'No? Nivriti definately takes after me, she likes her own company alot of the time. I'd be worried, but everything turned out well for me. I think if she spends time with her sister she'll learn that the company of others is good to have as well.' Aishwarya smiled a little. 'I'm sure she would enjoy a flying lesson from her father at some point.'
'If you say so,' Nivriti flicked her tail indecisively as she watched her sister paddled her hooves in the shallows. She had to admit that when the sunlight hit the fish's scales, the glittery effect below the water ripples was quite pretty. She still wasnt sure if she wanted one to touch her though! The filly shuffled forwards, gingerly moving so that her front hooves went into the water a few inches. 'It's cold!' she exclaimed, her winglets shivering.

Shikoba smiled and looked at Nivriti. He would love to teach her how to fly. The only thing was....he'd never taught anybody to fly, and didn't know how to go about it. But he would figure it out when the time came. Her small wings didn't seem ready to fly yet.
"I could tell that she was a lot like you. Just from the way she greeted me. She's very similar to you. I hope that they'll get along. Nituna's boisterous spirit may be a bit overwhelming for her."
"Its only cold right now because you're not used to it yet. Just stay in it for a while and it won't be cold anymore!"
She kept her eyes on the shallow water, watching the fish as they continued to get braver and braver, swimming ever closer to her feet. She took a moment to look over at her sister and smiled. She could tell that she was a little uncomfortable, but she was sure that she'd soon get used to it.

'And alot like you, she didn't get those little winglets from me after all.' Aishwarya swished the heavy braid of her tail slowly. 'It might be that they won't truly get along until they are older, Nituna will have lost some of that childhood exuberance..well possibly, and Nivriti will I hope have gained patience and acceptance of behaviour that isnt her own.'
'If you say so,' Nivriti managed through chattering teeth. She sloshed in further, thinking that if the water was moving a little it might not make her as cold as if it were still. Of course this meant it was splashing her and she let out a little squeak. 'No, no, too cold!' she skipped out of the shallows and stomped her hooves around, trying to warm her legs up.

He smiled at Aish, nodding his head.
"Yes, and she has more of my colouring as well. While Nituna has your purple coat. And I'm sure they will get along eventually. Sometimes it just takes some time for them to get used to each other, especially since they're not living with each other."
He nuzzled up against Aish, nipping gently at her neck.
She turned around to watch her sister, her mouth hanging open slightly. What was her deal? It really wasn't that cold.
"What's wrong? I said if you just wait a little, you'll get used to it. And its not like its icy or anything. Its really not that bad."
She honestly couldn't understand why her sister was so uncomfortable with the water. She loved it, and had so much fun, whereas her sister seemed almost terrified of it.

'I don't think we could have asked for two prettier, or brighter little girls than what we were blessed with,' Aishwarya remarked fondly, looking over and watching Nivriti skip out of the water, nudging Shikoba gently and smiling. 'She never has liked cold water.'
'I just don't like it!' Nivriti bit back in a shrill voice at her sister. She slapped her winglets against her side, her little tail swishing along with her irritation. 'I never would make you do something you didn't like,' she said as a parting shot, she wandered away from the waters edge, her nose wrinkled in a sulky manner.

Shikoba smiled and nudged Aish back.
"I agree. We are very lucky to have had them. They are both amazing."
He smiled and watched his two daughters, but then his smile faltered a bit as he heard Nivriti's shouts at her sister, and in turn, saw Nituna's stunned look.
"Perhaps we should do a little damage prevention between them?"
Nituna stared at her sister, completely taken aback at her behaviour. What was the deal? She honestly couldn't see what was so bad about the water. As her sister stomped away, she followed at a distance, her head low.
"I wasn't really making you do it. I just wanted to have fun with you." She said it in a low voice, more to herself than to her sister.

Aishwarya glanced over; 'I think they are just having a little disagreement, Nivriti really doesn't like water.' she said, but moved off towards her two daughters. When she was near them she gave a stern look, eyes moving between the two of them.
'What's going on with you two? I thought you were going to pay nicely together.'
Nivriti's ear were flattened against her head now, her winglets twitching in irritation. 'But you kept going on about it! Making me sound like I'm a big baby or something. If you weren't making me, why did you keep going on about it?' she bit back, her chin trembling a little.
At the approach of their mother, she ducked her head and scuffed the floor with her hooves before looking up at her. 'Nitty wouldn't leave me alone. Said I didn't want to go in the water..'

Shikoba followed Aish over to the side of the water, but hung back a little bit. It seemed that she had it under control, and he didn't want to step on her toes. He knew that she was fully capable of taking care of the situation, but he also knew that Nituna could be a little difficult and didn't always know her place. So he was there to take care of her if she got out of line.
Nituna sulked, standing a distance from her family, her head hung low. She still didn't understand why her sister was so mad.
"I really didn't mean to sound like that, Nivriti. I just wanted you to play with me. I wanted to do something together with you."
