((I always suck at titles.))

It was the afternoon out on the open plains, but the sky wasn't showing it, having been the same dull grey all morning, without a single patch of blue sky as mid-day came around. The surrounding area looked quite dreary, the snow half-melted one day, and froze again the next, leaving brown and grey icey mounds. Slowly the young stallion made his way across the plains, avoiding the ice patches. While for sometime he had enjoyed the winter weather, and playing in the fluffy white snow. Now the ground was slippery, and hard on his hooves. So as he made his way through, he hoped to find someone friendly to talk to, since there was no fun to be had elsewhere.

'Jeez..' Adrienne muttered, flicking her long, trailing tail out of the muck for the nth time. She couldnt wait until the season changed; unbroken cold and miserable weather could make on depressed. Not so much her, she tried not to get down over silly little things, but as she slipped along the alternately damp and frozen ground, she found herself grousing under breath just a tiny bit.

Splash of colour..Adrienne paused, the edge of one front hoof dug into the ground to give herself purchase as she watched the stallion make his own precarious way across the dodgy ground.
'Hey!' she called, hoping to catch his attention. He didnt seem to be with anyone, she flicked her gaze about to see if there were any other Soquilis about, and maybe they could be bored together! Or at least think of something to do that didnt involve falling on ones rump.

All the while he had kept his head down, looking everywhere he was stepping to avoid the ice. As soon as he heard the voice he lifted his head up, looking for the source, but in that moment his hoof found a patch of ice and slipped out from under him. In mere seconds he found himself stretched out at a very odd angle, his belly flat on the cold ground with all four legs sticking out, but at least had spotted the brown and white mare. "Hello." He called out, as he slowly picked himself up again, slipping several more times before finally standing.

Adrienne hastened to the stallions side as quickly as she was able, legs muscles straining as she strove to keep her balance, despite her hooves slipping under her at times.

'Are you okay?' she asked, her face a picture of concern as she looked at the petal-patterned male.
'I'm sorry, I feel that was my fault, I distracted you and you fell.' her brow was furrowed, and she gave her lip a guilty gnaw.
'Did you hurt yourself?' she cast a glance over him, trying to see if there was anything obvious that he'd injured.

For being so stretched out, at such strangle angles, he was luckily unhurt, aside from a bruised ego. "Nothing broken." He said simply, ignoring the plop of slush and mud falling off his belly. "And considering how miserably soggy the ground is, I think this was bound to happen, distraction or not. I don't think there is a dry patch of ground for miles around." He added, hoping to alleviate some of her guilt, and it was quite true, he was never the most graceful of stallions.

Adrienne let out a little noise of relief;
'You're very lucky in that case, it did look a very painful fall.' she continued to cast quick glances at the stallion, more out of curiosity now over his markings before nodding at his words.

'It is isn't it? I simply cannot wait until the season changes, the air warms and the ground starts to dry out. I really don't like this sort of miserable type of weather, it kind of brings you down after a while.'

She gave him a smile though, meeting someone new, especially exotic looking someones always was cause for cheer.
'Well, you do have interesting markings! And here I am with my little sprinkling of white on my hips. I'm Adrienne by the by, nice to meet you.'

"Neither can I. I thought winter was pretty for a while, but now when it seems half-way between seasons, it is not nice at all." He said, stepping carefully to one side, so he would no longer be standing in a large mound of ice and snow.

Strange in his mind, that she thought his markings were interesting, he had considered them the bane of his existance in his foalhood. Seeing as flowers just didn't look right on a young colt, and didn't look at all impressive. "Thank you. I am Ardin." He said, deciding to take the polite route, since it wouldn't be polite to ignore a compliment. Now that his hooves were finally on mostly solid ground, he now got a good look at the young mare and her hip markings. "It looks like snowflakes before they hit the ground, when the snow is actually nice." He said, figuring it was only polite to pay her a compliment about her markings which she too didn't think were all that pretty.

Adrienne almost did a double take when she heard the stallion give his name;
'Ardin, really? My mother's name is so close to yours, hers is Ardia.' she chuckled, finding the similarities amusing.
'You think so? It just seems a little dull, I mean compared to you, and compared to other Soquili's I've seen. I mean,' she carried on chatting, her long tail swishing.
'I like my looks because they came from my mother, and my father..although where the hip spots came from no one knows because neither has those.' she grinned. This was weird, she didn't usually let herself ramble so much when she met someone new.
'So does your mother have a petalled pelt than?'

"Well that makes them quite unique if neither of your parents have them." He said with a flick of his bi-colored tail.

"I wouldn't know. I don't know where or who my true family is. A young mare named Calantha found me as a basket after a bad rainstorm, and then raised me when she couldn't find my family, she is my family now." He said calmly. The subject of his family had once been an issue to him, but now that he was grown up, he had accepted that he might not ever know who they were.

'You think?' Adrienne felt a little pleased about that. Unique. That was a different way of looking at it, she hadn't thought of it that way before now. It was certainly better than thinking she was plain.
'I like that. Unique is good.' she grinned at the stallion, which faltered as he spoke about his family, or lack thereof. Why hadn't she thought before speaking? Not everyone came from such a large family.

'I am so sorry,' she said, a look of contrition on her face.
'I mean, it is good that you didn't grow up alone, but I shouldn't have just said that. Didn't think. Have you ever tried searching or asking about them at all?' she asked in a delicate fashion.

"I've kept an eye out for them, but I wouldn't know who to ask or even what I would ask them, I don't know anything about them except for my own markings. But maybe one day I'll run across another petalled Soquili and ask them." He said with a bob of his head in a half-shrug. "And you don't have to be sorry, there is no way you could have known, we only just met." He added, smiling warmly.

'Well, I still feel as though I put my hoof in my mouth, but thank you for trying to make me feel better about it.' Adrienne smiled back, noting for the first time the brilliant blue that was Ardin's eyes.
She nodded.
'Yes. Maybe you will. It's good that you're hopeful about it. And that you aren't all broody and moody. I really don't like Soquili's that are always down about things.' she flicked her tail, mucky drops falling from the sodden hairs at the end of it.

'Were you off somewhere in particular, or to meet someone? You know, before I distracted you.' she grinned sheepishly.

"No not meeting anyone, I haven't seen anyone out and about for a few days, except for you of course. No I was just trying to make my way off of this icy ground and into somewhere drier." He said shifting again in the muck, trying to get as far out of it as he could. "Though I don't know where it might be drier." He added.

'Anywhere but here? It does seem a little marshy around here. But spring will be here soon and then everything will be green again.' Adrienne gave a bright smile after her words.

'Have you been to the two-leggers Village lately? That's a little more sheltered, and often a nicer place to be. Or we could go under the trees, the ground might be a little drier in places under the canopy.'
She swished her tail.

'After all, if we stay here much longer we might sink.' she pulled up one hoof, and it parted from the muck with a slight sucking noise.

"I have seen the two-leggers, but I have never entered the village." He said simply, as he pulled one hoof out of the muck and tried to step out of it, only for the same hoof to get stuck again, only now stretched out ahead of him. "But as long as it is drier, I'd like to go." He said as he pulled his hindlegs out, trying to get all four feet under him again. "Lead the way." He said with a bob of his head, after he finally found ground that was slightly more solid.
