It was an uncommonly warm winter morning, signaling that spring wasn't far off. It turned the fluffy white snow, into mushy grey piles. Slowly the young, little mare awoke, seeing her winter playground, was now a mushy playground. Only served to delight her, a new thing to play with, if only she had someone to share it with. She stood up, stretching her stiff legs, as she came out from her shelter, which was under a willow tree. Most would have thought to fill their bellies in the early morning, her belly was growling noisily. But seeing these delightful grey piles, was far too tempting.

Without any hesitation, she galloped straight forward, before sliding into a mound of slushy snow. Completely covering herself in it, and not caring one bit.

Syipher had wakened on the wrong side of the bed that morning, or so the saying goes. The sullen grey of the soggy snow surrounding him did nothing to lighten his already brooding mood; not to mention that the mushy mixture was freezing his white hooves and drenching the chestnut ends of his mane and tail. He could not help but grumble to himself as he trudged on in the slush and stared at the ground in a futile attempt to look for fresh grass. He was so lost in his quiet rants to no one that when he finally looked up he was only a few yards from another Usdia. He was just about to lower his gaze, uninterested in making small talk this early in the morning, when to his surprise the mare plunged into the grey muck.

Syipher trotted quickly over to the mound to make sure the mare was not hurt, but his question of concern did not sound one bit like it. In fact, it almost sounded like he was chastising the mare. "What on earth do you think you are doing?!?" he cried out.

Having been half buried in snow, she didn't see him approach. So she was quite surprised when he shouted at her. What a silly question, she thought, did he think she did it by mistake, or did he just not know how to have fun. "Well I was hoping it would be as fun as jumping in piles of leaves." She said as she scrambled up, and shook out her muddy mane, sending snow and what ever else was in the snow everywhere. After a moment's pause, to figure out if it was what she had expected. "Much colder than leaves, but no slugs, I suppose that out-weighs the cold." She quickly, grinning broadly.

Syipher gave the odd mare a look of annoyance as she shook the cold muck everywhere, including all over him. It seemed to him that his already bad day just got worse. "I personally don’t see how you can get any fun out of either," was Syiphers curt response. "Why would you want to deliberately jump into a pile of half frozen sludge? Fun? There is no fun in having to waist time cleaning yourself off; not to mention drying off afterwards."

He gave a frustrated huff. He was in an irritable mood, and though he didn’t mean to take out his frustration on this innocent mare he didn’t hesitate to. "Are you sure you have all your nuts and bolts together up there?" Syipher asked as he nodded at the mare's forehead. " 'Cause it doesn’t seem like it to me..."

"Of course it is fun, it gives me something to do on such boring days, when entertaining company hasn't been found." She said quickly, ignoring the cold wind against her wet coat.

"Why would I have nuts and bolts in my head?" She asked, walking forward until she was almost nose to nose with him. "What are nuts and bolts?" She asked her face completely blank now, staring at his forehead. She of course knew what they were, having over-heard some two-leggers speaking about them, but she wouldn't tell him that.

Syipher stood there dumbfounded for a moment. How was he supposed to explain nuts and bolts? "They are..." He paused as he tried to think of exactly how to describe them. He didn't really know himself what they were, only what they did. "They are little round things that hold some of the Two-leggers things together." His implication was she was a little loony, but at the moment he felt as though he was the one that was crazy. He blushed a little, embarrassed by his statement not being understood then by his own inability to explain it.

He decided it may be best to cover up his embarrassment. "Don't you think it would be better to seek out entertaining company rather than to act like a wild and ignorant filly?"

"Oh I know what they are, but gettin' you to explain it is fun. And doesn't involve getting messy." She said with a grin and an innocent bat of her eyelashes. "Well of course it would be good to find entertaining company. But all of them are hiding in this weather, don't know why, I find it quite pleasent." She said as she flicked off the half-frozen sludge off her coat, with one quick swipe of her tail.

"Maybe because it's cold and wet outside?" Shypher said shortly. "Most people like to stay warm." He paused for a moment and looked down at his sopping mane. "And Dry..." He added quietly. "Just standing here talking to you the cold has made it to where I cant feel my hooves! I don't see how you can keep a cheerful mood with such surroundings."

"All winter long? Inside? What a silly thing to do, that is so long to stay inside." She said, looking quite perplexed as to how someone could stay inside so long and not go bonkers. "Well I can't change the weather, but I can change my mood, so why let a silly thing like being cold and wet, bring down my spirits." She said as she stomped her hooves, trying to bring some of the feeling back.
