...I've never felt so passionate about Israel until I saw all the Anti-Israel groups on facebook.
I swear, i've been looking through them for a little while now, and i'm almost ready to cry.
Flags on fire.
People standing on flags.
And lots of "brothers and sisters we must make Israel and Palestinian state, Israel's are the devil."
It's very awful.

Anyone had similar experiences?
All I know is from now on i'm wearing my Chai (is that the right spelling?) and Star of David every day.

Sometimes it takes a shock to the system, to help crystallize feelings that were lurking under the surface already. If a Jewish heart beats in your chest, attacks on Israel hurt. Even if Israel did something horrible, instead of insult her and distance ourselves from her, we would cry and be ashamed of that action as if we'd done it ourselves, because she is our mother.

Agreed. There's a great sense of community around Jews- if I hear of a Jew committing a crime, I feel personally ashamed since it was one of our own. Seeing all these Facebook groups against Israel and Jews just solidifies my feelings that we need to take care of ourselves while trying to stop the Anti-Semitic madness. Depressing, but it's reality.

Ah. I know how you feel. On one of my first history classes freshman year, a classmate (who I am on good terms with), was describing her trip to Lebanon, where her family is, and told about the bombings. However, she made the whole thing sound like Israel's fault, and I got very upset. I guess I had never realized how much I felt for the country until then.

It's very easy to take for granted a country's existence. For those of us in the States, I suspect this is even easier. We're used to the idea that countries don't disappear, that we don't have to worry. These groups make it clear that the enemies of Israel don't just want an advantage (as is often the cause of modern wars), they want to wipe it off the face of the Earth. When the threat sinks in, people tend to close ranks. And I got distracted, I forget where my little thing was going to go, but it was ultimately going to end with "welcome to the club" or something along those lines. sweatdrop

This is exactly why I boycott Israel and am embarrassed by it: the acts that my fellow Jews are doing in Israel towards the Palestinians hits me right to my core. Every condemnation Israel gets from the world community, every settlement, every international law broke: they are each a direct reflection on me and it is extremely shameful.

The only thing more shameful is how the Jewish community likens me to a "self hating Jew" or "antisemite" simply because I strongly disagree with Israeli policies. I don't want Israel "wiped off the face of the Earth", but I don't want it to continue as it is. Most Israelis agree with me. razz For some reason American Jews are the only ones who have a problem with dissenting opinions about Israel.

lol i still don't know how I feel about Israel. It does take the shock often times to really create that personal emotion that is your reason for feeling the way you do.

Don't be ashamed of how you feel or what it took to get you there, there are some jews out there who call themselves a jew but feel nothing when hearing about their peoples pain or Israels fight to just survive. Those are the people who should be ashamed asking us if it's bad, not you.

Whenever I see something like that, I get the same way.
It makes me sad and angry and just overall upset.

They despise Israel as a state because we "took their land" but even if we did...where did they expect all the Jews after the holocaust to go? Barely any country would take us!
PostPosted: Thu Jan 24, 2008 6:19 am

Kisho, they expected us to go "somewhere else" and become someone else's "problem." They expected us to all die but a remnant few, and those remnant should have been grateful to be allowed to live while oppressed instead of dying. They expected to have to mourn us, not live with us.

Screw 'em. AM YISRAEL CHAI -- The nation of Israel lives!
