Poking his nose out the door, Kindle sniffed warily. He had heard rumors of this place... Outside. Scarcely two days had passed since his hatching, and venturing 'outside' his house he shared with Sorlanna and some other wizards seemed so... exciting! He poked the rest of his head out, and was more aware of the sunlight shining brightly on his face. He looked right and left, and more house-shaped buildings were lined up in untidy rows. But the house-on-wheels thing across the rutted, broken street was what caught his eye. Glass shards and jewels tinkled and shined in the warm summer sun. Stepping confidently, Kindle eased through the door straight towards the cart, with his eyes fixed firmly on a solitary piece of red-colored glass on a string.

Today was a nice day for flying. But then again in Skimmer's mind, everyday was a nice day for flying. Airborne antics had been forbidden inside his master's domicile, so thus he savored every opportunity he got to stretch his wings. And the fact that he could fly gave him a wider radius in which to scavenge for bits and bobs with which to lord over his fellow familiars. He much preferred colorful flowers, but they never lasted long once accquired. He'd settle for something else vibrant today.
He spotted Kindle as he swooped along and doubled back towards the other dragon. Maybe there was something worth checking out? Skimmer circled overhead. Sometimes dragons were so aggressive over shiny things. Maybe he should wait before taking a closer look. He took a perch nearby and decided to watch.

Kindle strode faster towards the shiny bauble, his eyes growing larger and larger as it grew bigger in his eyes. Amazing! Sorlanna never has anything like this! A tiny glance showed that the fat man next to the cart was still dozing in the sun. He barely even noticed the clip-clop of approaching horse hooves as he reached the middle of the cobblestoned street, intent on his 'Shiny'.

Skimmer might not be one of the smarter dragons around, but even he knew this was shaping up to be a problem. Getting kicked hurt. He knew this from experience. And that had only been from one of his fellows. Getting stomped on by a horse, which was so much bigger, well, he wasn't sure of the exact mechanics, but it was bound to hurt more. Like, a lot more.
This called for acrobatics. Actually, it probably didn't, but the leaf affinity dragon looked upon any excuse to show off as a good one. Besides, pestering the horse would annoy the two-legs as well as the horse and screaming out a warning, well, anybody could do that. Screaming out a warning in style, now, that was something else.
A quick leap and he was airborne again. Some furious pumping propelled him upwards for momentum, and then his wings were folded back in perfect form for a dive. He streaked towards the younger dragon, intent on reaching him before the horse. The heat of the moment got to him and he gave out a joyous cry. "Yeee-haaaa~!"

A strange squeaky noise tore through the air, and Kindle's curiosity dragged his eyes away from the bauble to take in two things at once: One, the hooves of a giant, stomping black mare coming straight towards him. Two, and this he barely had time to register, was a rapidly enlarging green thing coming at him from the corner of his eye. And the buzzing noise was getting louder.
WHAMM!
Scraping his scales across the tough ground, Kindle scratched his claws desperately on the cobblestones. The great green feathery thing was squishing him to death! Waitaminnit... Kindle looked up at the great black horse who had continued passing by, shaking her great head at the impertinence of the little lizards.
The small fire-lizard's eyes widened. Carefully wriggling to get his hind legs free, he nosed the strange green feathers. "Y-you saved my life! Thanksalot! What are you?!" he shouted, bouncing on his toes with glee, excitement, and barely noticing the ruffled feathers on his back.

"I," Skimmer began, "AM TOTALLY AWESOME!" Kindle wasn't the only one who was excited, it seemed. He alternated between strutting and bouncing, obviously thrilled with his daring rescue. "Did you see that? Did you!? Oh I came in like a pro, man! I am leaf, see how I SOAR!" He prattled on in this manner for a little bit longer, before remembering why he'd done so.
"Oh, hey, are you okay?" He nosed at the smaller dragon, to make sure no permanent harm was done. "I didn't hit you too hard, did I? It's fun to stalk shiny things, but you gotta be careful. Lotsa big, clumsy things around. Not at all like me, Skimmer, the quickest (and leafiest) dragon ever!" He puffed up again. He really was proud of himself.

Kindle's eyes widened at the green dragon's outbursts, but he nosed through the feathers on his back. Every feather carefully back in place, he turned back to his rescuer. "Wow, you're a leaf?! You're the loudest, feathery leaf I've ever seen." he said seriously.
"But you know about big clumsy things?!", he said, the small feathers on his head and forearms becoming fluffy again in excitement. Clearly, the little fire-dragon had a lot more to learn about the outside world. "You must be very smart. What else should I-" he broke off after catching sight of the shiny red glass in the corner of his eye, now only steps away. His eyes widened as if in a trance, and he began stepping towards it again, unable to turn back to hear his companion's reply.

Loudest. Skimmer made a mental note to add that description to his verbal resume. It had a nice ring to it. Also, it was true. Even better. He puffed up a bit at the fire-dragon's compliments. He did, however, feel the need to correct his younger companion's assumptions. "I'm not really a leaf. And I know plenty about big clumsy things." Skimmer launched into a descriptive tale about his excursion wherein he was chased by a large watchdog who had been patrolling a garden he'd been thieving from, completely oblivious to the fact that he had no audience.
"I never knew you could do that with a banana-" He petered out after a moment, realizing Kindle had been distracted. Perhaps he should share advice on a more appropriate subject. his voice was low and steady as he called out.
"Just be careful and quiet." A quick glance had shown the man still sleeping next to the cart. "As long as he doesn't wake up, you should be fine. Grab the shiny and run!"
Still, it never hurt to have a back up plan, especially one that involved acrobatics. The leaf dragon scrambled up some discarded boxes, ready to take flight at a moments notice to run interference.
