I bought a time card last night and it came with the normal little Blizzard Catalog. So I showed my mom the books they listed and that I thought about buying some. So, she said she would actually buy some for me if I wanted to read them (Since well, it's reading and stuff...) So, I know there are a few series of Warcraft books, but which ones do you recommend getting first?

I just finished the War of the Ancients trilogy, it was a brilliant read. I'd definitely suggest starting there.

I'd skip Day of the Dragon (I didn't enjoy it for it's fanfic-y-ness). The Last Guardian was a good read, as well as Lord of the Clans (I <3 Thrall).

Echoing what was said about War of the Ancients and Rise of the Horde, and Lord of the Clans.

If it's in the catalog, you might want to get the big omnibus book of Lord of the Clans, The Last Guardian and... argh, one other title I can't recall. It's cheaper than buying them all separately.

Whatever you do, dont buy the manga (The Sunwell). Borrow it if you must read it, but don't legitimately pay your own money for it.
Its ugly, horrible story/dialogue, and adds nothing to the lore.
Theres a cool frame of Sylvanas fighting but after that the story again becomes made of fail.

That's the Warcraft Archive. It has Day of the Dragon, Lord of the Clans, The Last Guardian & Of Blood & Honor. It cost like, $15, but uh... DotD & OB&H aren't very good, so it's more of a completionist thing. DotD does lead into the War of the Ancients trilogy though.

There's an Archive of WotA trilogy now too.

Richard Knaak is a very good writer in my opinion. While is writing is a bit simple compared to people like Terry Brooks, I think he's a strong force in fantasy writing.

He's no literary legend but his writing aint half bad, pretty decent for a book about a video game imo.

The Sunwell is going to feature a boss/character that's from the manga. xDD And there are characters from the manga in netherstorm.

To the OP, you should read the books in this order:

Days of the Dragon*
Lord of Clans*
Last Guardian*
WotA* ( Events from DotD are heavy in this )
Cycle of Hatred
Rise of the Horde
Tides of Darkness
Sunwell manga*

There is also a comic out that comics with an issue each month. Pretty decent.

Night of the Dragon and Beyond the Dark Portal are suppose to come out this year along with another manga following the crew with BC events.

* = You can get in a large archive form. I recommend this because usually they add a little extra story or art into it. The first three on that list are in one big book with a small story called Of Blood and Honor. ( OBAH was an e-book. )

The sunwell manga archive comes with colored pages in the beginning. Worth getting.

*nod* A simple style isn't necessarily bad. I wish he'd lay off the exclamation points, though.

He was a guest at a con I was at, when he first started his own series years ago. No one stopped by his table to have their books signed. I felt sorry for him, so I bought a copy and had him sign it.

I don't think Knaak is a 'bad' writer, it's just too... fan-fic-y. lol Spoiler-y crap in white. The whole romance between Rhonin & Vareesa Windrunner was poorly set up, & made me roll my eyes every time he said something about her 'gorgeously pale skin' & 'unflinchingly boner-inducing gaze', & so on & so forth. Deathwing was cool though. I could also tolerate the dwarves. Paladin Generic Whatshisface that sacrficed himself by leaping onto a dragon's face made me laugh, then groan as Rhonin wangsted over it. IfRhonin would fall off a cliff, & actually die, everything would be dandy.

Rise of the Horde is the one that tells of the events with the Orcs and spaceberries. ^^ Durotan is the main character for that as well.
