Okay, here's what really happens with aliens and probing.
The story is that aliens study humans and abduct them to study brain patterns. Of course, the probe used looks like a microphone, and the rounded end measures brainwaves.
One day, a Green was in the middle of his probing exam, and had studied that night. He was also a bit of a smartass, and he found the pointed end of the probe, found and oraphace and jammed it in there.
That is where a**l probing came from. It is still often practiced, not for scientific study, but for simple delight from creeping humans out.

Actually, I heard there are two kinds of aliens, the greens and greys. The greens are the scientific kind. They only want to study other races to learn about them. But the greys are the ones who enjoy torturing and cross-species breeding.
