ANIME RECOMMENDATIONS

Hello, and welcome to the thread! If you're either desperately seeking for an anime to enjoy or would like to help others to find ones they may like, then you're in the right thread.

If you'd like some recommendations, please use the following format:

Looking for Anything Specific?
Favorite Genres:
Least Favorite Genres:
Favorite Anime:
Least Favorite Anime:
Preferred Language Format: (Raw Japanese, Subbed, Dubbed)
Anything Else:

If you'd like to make a recommendation, please use the following format:

I Suggest: (Title)
Because:
Summary of Series: (Please, no huge spoilers.)
Languages Available: (Please write if there are fandubs, fansubs, raw episodes, or releases in English-speaking countries, unless the one seeking recommendations seeks a language other than Japanese or English.)
Anything Else:

I hope the codes don't bother anyone. This way, things are more organized, and instead of randomly suggesting things, people comprehend why things are being recommended, and people seeking recommendations state exactly what they seek and don't seek. (:

I Suggest: Fruits Basket
Because: It has comedy, drama, cuteness and... INTENSITY! eek No, honestly. If it doesn't keep you at the edge, and surprise you with its interesting story... you can't help but learn at least a little something about yourself. Every character has his or her own story, you're going to relate with someone.
The characters are very unique and likeable. xD I've never met anybody who knows Furuba and says "I hate it!"
Summary of Series: I'm horrible at this... so -copies and pastes, then edits to liking.-
Tohru Honda is a bright and cheerful 16 year old girl. (not the usual type of heroine girl... Tohru is also very delicate and ALWAYS worries about others much before herself.) She was orphaned when her mother was killed in a car accident. Not wanting to burden anyone (i told you), she buys a tent and begins to live in a forest. She is determined to finish school in order to fulfill her mother's last wish. But, it turns out that the land Tohru is living on belongs to the Sohma family. She is quickly invited to live in the Sohma house (all males), as long as she is willing to cook and clean. One of the Sohma's, Yuki, is the most popular boy at Tohru's high school. He is swooned by girls constantly and is even referred to as the "prince" of the school (even though he may not feel himself to be so prince-ly). His cousins Shigure (perverted, always seems to be hiding something... he's like a ripple in the water! remember?) and Kyo (this describes him perfectly: scream XD) make up the rest of the household.
Tohru knows that her living environment is out of the normal, but things turn out to get stranger. The members of the Sohma family are possessed by animals and they turn into their true selves when they are embraced by the opposite sex! You can imagine Tohru's surprise when she witnesses their secret. She promises not to tell a soul, but the "cat" may already be out of the bag.
Languages Available: I'm not sure if there are fandubs. I'm pretty sure there are fansubs. there are releases in English-speaking countries.
Anything Else: I recommend the manga much more than the anime, yessir!

I Suggest: Nodame Cantabile

Because: It's one of the few music anime out there that isn't rock. It's funny, exaggerated and completely unrealistic, but at the same time a lot of it can be related to real life, and the "lessons" learned throughout the series can be applied to things other than music.

Summary of Series: "Shinichi Chiaki is a gifted, if arrogant, student at the Momogaoka Music Academy. Although he has enrolled in piano classes, his real dream is to become a world-famous orchestra conductor. Unfortunately, an extremely traumatic event which occurred during his childhood has resulted in a fear of flying, destroying his chances of studying abroad under the wing of the renowned conductor, Sebastian Viera.

Chiaki's attitude, as well as his frustration and disappointment with the state of his life, results in him keeping an arms-length relationship with his fellow students, and in conflicts with his instructors.

However, things begin to change for him when he meets fellow piano student Noda "Nodame" Megumi. She may be a slob, an airhead, and a slow learner, but there's something about her piano playing that moves his heart. Perhaps even change it.

*thinks to cranston for description" -quoted from animenfo.com (which does a better job summarizing it than me).

Languages Available: Fansubs are available online, but a dubbed version has not been released. It has not been licensed in America. There is also a manga and Live action available.

Anything Else: This is among my top five favorite anime. Words cannot describe how awesome it is. The characters are my favorite element in it. I can easily see my family and friends in these roles. Inspiring, yet humorous. It's not very well-known (at all), but it's too good an anime not to watch.

I Suggest: Monster

Because: Fzucking epic and the best I've seen in a while.

Summary of Series: Kenzou Tenma, a Japanese brain surgeon in Germany, had it all: incredible skill at his work, a rich and beautiful fiancee, and a promising career at his hospital. However, after becoming disenchanted by hospital politics, he chose to save the life of a young boy who got shot in the head over the life of the mayor. As a result he lost the support of the hospital director, as well as his position in the hospital and his fiance. A short time later, the hospital director and the doctors that replaced him were murdered, and once again he was catapulted back onto the top. But as the chief suspect of the murders, Tenma did not get a easy life. As a matter of fact, it seems that the boy he saved was much more than he had appeared to be... Now to clear his name and to correct his past mistake, Tenma must get to the bottom of these and other murders, and investigate the truth of the Monster who is behind all of this.

Languages Available: Fansubs are available online. I'm not quite sure about a dubbed version.

Anything Else: I've been watching it for a week, and I highly recommend it. It's a very good series, very realistic. I'm currently on episode 40-ish, but I'm attempting to finish it next week. I'll manage to make a thread about it sometime. (':

I Suggest: The Galaxy Railways

Because: A fairly unexplored concept outside of Leiji Matsumoto himself.

Summary:
In the future, mankind will venture to the far reaches of the cosmos using technologically advanced trains. The fleet of the Galaxy Railways transports countless galactic citizens from one exotic planet to the next, protected by the Space Defence Force, or SDF, the elite force protecting the Railways Fleet against terrorists, meteor storms and malicious alien life.

In the beginning of the story, the main character, Manabu Yƫki, has always had dreams of joining the SDF, following in the footsteps of his father and brother, who died while serving in the SDF. Unfortunately, his mother is fed up with losing her family to the great space beyond and does what she can to deter him from following his dream. Despite this, Manabu is determined to join, and boards the train to Destiny Station, the story leads on from there.

Languages available Dubbed and there are fansubs out but it's a cheap series so just buy it.

Anything Else This is a Leiji Matsumoto work so there will be a feeling of cold heartiness especially near the ending. Takes place in the same universe as Galaxy Express 999. There's a second season out that is not licensed along with an OVA and a movie that links Express 999 and Railways together.

Looking for Anything Specific? Horror, 18+, dark ect...

Favorite Genres: Horror, Action, Adventure, Mecha, Cyberpunk, Fantasy, Western, Post-Apocalypse, Science Fiction, Anthropormophism, Animal.

Least Favorite Genres: Romance, Magical Girl, Shojo, Harem.

Favorite Anime: Guyver, Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Cowboy Bebop, Fist of the NorthStar, Samurai Pizza Cats, Ginga Densetsu Weed, Devilman...

Least Favorite Anime: Sailor Moon, Chobits, Pokemon, Shin-Chan...

Preferred Language Format: (Raw Japanese, Subbed, Dubbed)
Subbed please. Although GOOD dubbing is OK but would still prefer original language.

Anything Else:Comedy is one of the genre's that is dependant on what is included. Comedy romance is gah not for me, but an Action/Adventure Romance would possibly be OK, whereas a dark anime with hints of comedy would be brilliant. I don't mind nudity as long as there is a good plot and gore and violence is not a problem at all.
