DentinMUD: Alter Aeon
Homepage: http://www.dentinmud.org
Running: Highly Active
Theme: Mixed, mainly fantasy.
Site Type: MUD
Host Address: www.dentinmud.org
Port number: 3000
Some Features: Multiclass, controlled PK (temp-PK, PPK, areanas), Apply to be a builder
Description: This is a conglomeration of areas, ranging from spacehip crash sites, Aztec Empires, Atlantis, Viking Villages, and more dwarf mining sites to count. The world of AlterAeon is ever growing due to player building. There are only four classes, but one character can master them all. My character oftentimes goes from blasting high-level fire spells to picking locks like a thief in the night. Players can also purchase their own clans and hope their ideals will attract other players to join. This is a MUD where powergamers love to spend their free time.

Dark and Shattered Lands
Home Page: http://www.dsl-mud.org/
Running: Active
Theme: Magical - Medieval - Fantasy
Site Type: MUD
Host Address: dsl-mud.org
Port Number: 4000
Some Features: Reclassing, Extensive Races, Enforced RP, Clan Restricted PK
Disclaimer: Not familiar with the PK system
Own Desc: All roleplay Mud with detailed Crafting System, Guilds, PK and more. Play a Kender and be silly, Sail a ship on the seas, travel by boat to charted lands, join a kingdom to gain special access to portals and citizenship, cast the most powerful magic as any of the Mage Reclasses and dominate the field. I particularly love DSL and I've never had so much fun...worth it all the way...but that is my personal opinion...

Dawn of Ages
Home Page: http://www.rplay.net/
Running: Active
Theme: Magical - Medieval - Fantasy
Site Type: MUD
Host Address: dawn.rplay.net
Port Number: 8000 or 8080
Some Features: Multi-classes, Multi-races, Extended races, PK, Roleplay, Clanning, Raiding
Disclaimer: Not as active as it used to be, but has potential...
Own Desc: RP is not so much enforced, but very much encouraged. Mostly PK Mud with a bit of a twist in things. You have a choice of weither or not to join in the PK. PK is also limited by level, so, you can not kill a level 10 if you're a level 50. Those that join are rewarded in participating in something interesting. PK Clanners are given access to Legendary Weapons that pass on small or unimaginably massive stat boosts and abilities, ranging from Evil Vampire Daggers, to Winged Godly Armors. These items however, make you an easy target for any other PKer to attack, regardless of player level. Legendary weapon is good, but if you can't handle a few greedy players, just drop it somewhere. Another interesting aspect is the Clan abilities. Once you join a clan and follow the rules associated to it, you gain abilities of that clan. The players of one particular clan, the Judges, are able to enforce the law.

StarWars Equinox
Home Page: http://www.shatteredequinox.com/
Running: Quite Active
Theme: Fantasy - Star Wars
Site Type: MUD
Host Address: mud.shatteredequinox.com
Port Number: 6666
Some Features: Restricted PK, Enforced RP, Flying, Space Combat, Extensive Race Selection
Disclaimer: Permanant Death
Own Desc: Roam the Multiverse in a Fighter ship, become a Jawa Smuggler or a Zabrak Pilot or much more. If you're lucky, your Roleplay skills can gain you access to becoming a Jedi. Or, if you're lucky, you may roll the right dice. PK is available, but you need an in excuse to PK another player. Combat is not automatic. There is also a wanted system that limits killing on certain planets. This includes NPCs. SWE has a fascinating COM link system, where you can input frequency to talk to other players. The majority of SWE is roleplay, but there is much to do. I was a female Zabrak pilot and I smuggled blasters illegally from one planet to another, then sold them on a separate planet. It was tricky but it was very funny when I got caught by the Empire and had to weasel my way out. Could have killed me! I even bought my own ship and customized it with the money I...earned...

Cowboy Bebop: Space Cowboy
Home Page: http://cb-sc.com
Running: Somewhat Active
Theme: Futuristic - Fantasy
Site Type: MUD
Host Address: cb-sc.com
Port Number: 4567
Some Features: Space Ships, Space Combat, Crafting, No Class, No Race, Roleplay Encouraged
Disclaimer: Not too active, but interesting...
Own Desc: Hrm...not much to say about this. You have access to all skills available, but you have to level them up to learn new ones. Combat isn't automatic. Crafting is probably the most fun and expensive class to level, because you can customize everything you make including the grenades! Flying is fun, but it just gets you around. The COM link system is really just a cheap tell system masked up so you can't hear oocs or tells without a phone or laptop. Hacking is illegal and hard to level because of the bounty system. The Bounty System is interesting, however. Once you break a crime your name and location are posted on a Bounty Hunter TV program that EVERYONE can see. Not bad, really, it just needs work and more players, but I had fun with the people I got to know there...

Clandestine MUD
Homepage: http://cland.dustbite.net/ (unofficial homepage)
Theme: Fantasy
Site Type: MUD
Host Address: mud.clandestinemud.com
Port Number: 9476
Personal Description: Cland has a lot to offer, from what I've seen. The player-base has thinned out a little in recent years, but they still have a sizable population. There are several religions to choose from, innumerable classes and a generous selection of races. It's also available in Technicolor (well, not really, but you get the idea) and offers a lot of options for character customization. The leveling system wasn't too bad when I went through; you can get along fine without absolutely having to party or group up with someone. They also have RPers, for those who prefer that to, say...PK or level-grinding. Roleplay isn't enforced, and IC or OOC is usually at the discretion of the players, though they do have separate public channels for IC or OOC discussion. To be perfectly honest, I can't agree with the admins' statement on the official page that it's all about fun; you do get your e-tards now and then, but overall it's been a good few years for me.
