I've heard many things about paintball barrels, but one thing is that any barrel over 14 inches doesn't help or just slows the paintball down.
any info on this?

Yes its widely said once you past 14" your just adding more mass and making a long setup. Also with a long barrel it consumes more air sense there is more pressure needed to get the ball out the barrel at the same velocity. If you were to chrono with a 8" barrel and then switch to a crazy 20" barrel you should notice that with the 20" barrel that your velocity is slower.
I know Tom Kaye(AGD Owner) did quite afew elaborate studies on this whole barrel length stuff though I can't qoute his results off the top of my head.
Though 14" is the widely accepted length for barrels, sometimes you see people use 16" but those are usually back players.

Very well stated Draxxus.
The 14" is probably the most common length. this is probably because it provides with the most accuracy and tournament players have adapted. Using a longer barrel you can push the bunker out of the way and just expose your barrel and part of your mask rather than having to expose parts of your body when snapping.
Any barrel over 14" will slow the paint down. this is caused from the air pressure dwindling and friction on the ball. That is all that you need to know really.
