So, after the highschool band came to our school right before winter break, our BD decided that we should do the same for elementary schools (we're a middle school band, and lacking in numbers). It sounds interesting, and we're going to 2 or 3 schools. We're playing with our whole school band (6th, 7th, and us awesome 8th graders). We're playing:

Spongebob Squarepants (The only good part is screaming in the beginning and the alto sax soli.)
Rock Around the Clock (Fun fun. :])
Bavarian Folk Dance (Played it in sixth grade, so our grade is really good at it.)
Pirates of the Caribbean Medley (It's amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing.)
Stars and Stripes Forever
The Incredibles (Main Theme)
and Wipe Out (you know, that surfer song? xd )

Most of them are pretty easy, some kind of sort of hard, but they're a lot of fun. 3nodding

So, any other schools do something like this?

It actually is a quite common recruiting tactic used by music directors nationwide. Many directors play excerpts or pieces that feature the different instruments to advertise what is available.

In college, I was also let in on a little secret: if the BD knows there is going to be a surge of flutes, saxophones, and trumpets coming in the next year, they put more focus and feigned interest into low brass.

I've been doing recruiting concerts since I was in the sixth grade (and I'm 23 now and teaching music).

I think my schools orchestra should do that.. After I graduate in 2009, The orchestra might not exist anymore since its so small right now, and the majority of it is graduating next year with me.

You should recommend it to whoever runs the orchestra, we don't even have one. Along with our chorus that died... xd
