What books did you enjoy most as a kid? Can you still read those books now? Do you have fond memories of certain books?
I liked the Hairy McClary books, about a little scruffy dog, and of course, The Hungry Caterpillar xp I also liked Pongwiffy books, about a smelly witch. xd

The first books that I remember reading are the books that got me to realize that reading is not as bad as I used to think it was. Those books were the Sideways Stories from Wayside School books. I found out about them in like 3rd or 4th grade along with Captain Underpants.
Another series of short books that I used to like were The Unicorns or Bairamor (or something like that, it was in fifth grade, like six years ago so I cannot remember). I never got to finish the series because one of the books was discontinued.
And the last books that I remember reading as a child were the Harry Potter books. My 5th grade teacher read to us the 1st Harry Potter book after recess everyday until we finished it. That got me to want to have that book. Which got me to want to read the other books. Which got me to become more interested in other longer books. And well, now I have two bookshelves full of books I love very much.

I can't remember the title or the name of the series but my favorite books whhen I was in early grade school were the ones where you would read to a certain point in the story and then you would be given a choice of what the characters did. The two options of the characters actions were followed by different page numbers so it was awkward to read when you flip back and forth throughout the book, but it was a fun read usually.

The Choose Your Own Adventures series. It's been updated and reissued lately, and had several copycats. I found some old ones in my basement recently.

I love children's books and since I have a one year old daughter, I'm fortunate to read them over and over and over again...
The big ones when I was little were the Dr. Seuss books (Horton Hatches an Egg was my favorite), Winnie the Pooh, Aesop's Fables and The Real Mother Goose.
Now I read my daughter all of those as well as many other including Jane Yolen's fine books. She really enjoys the "How do Dinosaurs Go to Bed" books and the "Welcome to the Ice House", "Welcome to the Sea of Sand", "Welcome to the River of Grass" etc... books. Really, anything by Jane Yolen is golden.

I always had my nose in a book when I was younger, and in fifth grade my teacher read Harry Potter, and then it became more than reading to me. That was when I started on actually writing, and doing deeper analysis on the things that I read.
Aside from Harry Potter, I read The Time Warp Trio books, started into some classic literature, and those small anthologies of "scary stories to tell before bed" (or something to that effect).

XD I got into the harry potter books after I saw the first movie. I was 11 at the time and read the books as I got older, so Literaly as Harry grew up so did I. It was really cool to have a character mature with you.

When I was 11, I was discovering The Dark Is Rising, though that had been in print a while.
