Hello there,

So this thread will be about what books aren't really that good. Tell us the ones to stay away from =p.

Good Idea.

I like Dean Koontz but he really bombed in his latest "Darkest Evening of the Year".

I've never read a bad book.

I have read a lot of books, it only goes to reason that some would be bad. I usually try to forget those books but I do remember one I read recently. Has anyone read Wicked? That is a great book but I tried to read Lost by Gregory Maguire ( the same author as Wicked) and could not finish it after trying for about a month and a half. Since it only takes me about a week usually to read a four hundred page book, you can tell this book was a struggle. I don't know if I will ever finish it.

I loved "Wicked"! The second book was good too and I have the third book sitting on my shelf but I am reading "13 Bullets", "99 Coffins" etc. series right now and want to finish those before going back to the Wicked series.

I have my own mini-library (over a 1,000 books and counting) so I am willing to talk books anytime smile

Wicked is great, but I do not recommend Lost. I have 3,000 books myself. Most are packed away until I get a larger house but I love reading so I just get more books. Right now I am trying to just get books from the library though to save money to move. Who writes those series' I am reading Anne McCaffrey now. The dragonrider series.

I had the space issue for awhile too but now I am in a two story and just discovered these great shelving units that piece together (a few modifications to add strength) and now I have floor to ceiling shelves and am slowly getting a large portion of my collection to one area.

The author I am reading now, David Wellington, is new to me and it is just an okay series. Kind of nice though because it's a vampire story only they aren't romantic characters in this one.

My recent favorite books are "The Host" by Stephenie Meyer, "Elsewhere" by Zevin and "Neverwhere" by Gaiman. I thought "The Host" was so much more than the Twilight series ever could be but I think it has been sadly overlooked.

I love The Host too! I have yet to read the Twilight Series, is it worth reading? Have you read the Black Dagger Brotherhood series? They are vampire books, but they do have some very adult themes, sort of like vampire romance novels. But they are action packed.... All this reminds of another book I did not like. I think part of it I read it when I was 13 and the themes were way too adult for me then, has anyone read Stephen King's Gerald's Game. It talks about sex games and it really did not appeal to me, partly because of my age at the time. Let me know if it worth trying to read again if you have read it and liked it.

Me personally, after reading "The Host" I wouldn't recommend Twilight only because I just don't think the Twilight series has the more intense feel that The Host did. I know a lot of people might disagree with me but I think those would be the ones looking for the romance in a book and I am not opposed to it but it isn't on the top of my list of must have in a book.

I haven't read "Gerald's Game" but I just received a big hug from Momo/Hikena (the captain of this guild) for suggesting her to read The Stand. It's older but just one of those goods ones that have to be read.

I do like a little "fluff" book once in awhile and so my "candy" for reading is The Southern Vampire series. It has sex in it and I sometimes think the main character needs to go in and get some tests done and some therapy lol but it has a theme of everyday life sprinkled with werewolves, were people, vampires, fairies etc. It has some pretty good dry humor and it is sad to say the "True Blood" series was based off of it but that show looks absolutely horrid compared to the book series.

Gee, can you tell I just finished my pot of coffee? Sorry to babble on so much. I will go and check out the Black Dagger series and the Night Angel trilogy (Kronic's suggestion) and see what those are about.

Myself, I may be inclined to go and investigate both "The Host" and "The Stand", I'll be sure to make a report when I have finished perusing each text. smile

It's been a year or so since I read "Gerald's Game", and personally, whilst it's a good book in itself, I feel it doesn't live up to some of King's other work.

Be interested to know if you like the Night Angel trilogy Choco, I'll warn you now though; the characters have a severe tendency to grow on you. razz

Okay, Night Angel trilogy is on order...probably won't see them until the end of the month though.

In my opinion, it's well worth the wait. smile

I love The Stand myself, they have started putting the book book out in graphic novel form, the first part being called "Captain Tripps" The first comic is free to download at Stephen King.com. Also I just did my radio show on Stephen King, if anyone is interested in a conversation about him (SpewingTwoRadio: Karey'd away March 1st). But I will have to check out the Angel Night Trilogy, I have read all the Southern Vampire novels and I really do like the books more, though I don't think True Blood was that bad if you do not expect a true rendition of the books. Does anyone else read manga? I just reread Fruits Basket 1-20, and am getting 21 tomorrow, anyone else read these or found a great one to read or one to avoid?

Momo is a big Manga reader. I will tell her to climb up here to talk with you.

Yes, I really did love the Southern Vampire series books, so once I saw who they chose for the "True Blood" series I just couldn't watch it. I saw snippets and it just made me cringe but I have seen a lot of viewers like it, so it's just a "me"issue. I just didn't feel the description of the book's characters match up with the series' characters. Let's face it...how could they find anyone to match up to the book's Eric's looks and still be able to act?

The Revenge of the Shadow King by Derek Benz & J. S. Lewis was not a very good book.
Although for younger kids, it is so predictable that I could tell how it'd end in the second chapter.
Also I couldn't put it down. Not because it was exciting, but because I hate not finishing books (no matter how terrible) and just really wanted to finish the book.
Maybe somebody likes this book, but I DID NOT AT ALL.
