Nudging a branch with his nose, Eridanus sighed. He was bored. His siblings were off running around somewhere, but he had very little want to stray far from his home today. His turned his head upwards to look at the pale blues of the sky, splashed with a tint of orange and red. It was sunrise, which meant his parents would surely be back soon. He smiled. His mother's love for the night was rivalled only by his own.
Sure enough, the familiar sound of hooves approaching made him turn to look at the direction they were coming from and a dark, starsplashed mare, similar in appearance to himself, appeared.
"Good morning, mother!"

Auriga had said goodbye to her mate for a short while, as he'd run off to do an errand. As she headed back to her 'new family home', a wide grin never left her face. Who would have imagined that she, Auriga, would have not only a lifemate, but THREE children?! Well, they weren't children anymore. They were two handsome stallions and a mare! She giggled slightly to herself with sheer glee. Her smile widened as she entered the clearing where she lived and saw her son there. Eridanus had taken mostly after her, both in appearance and nature. Although he was far less clumsy and more polite. Also, the familar marking of his fathers chest shone bright from Eridanus' chest, making it very clear who's son he was.
"And good morning to you, my dear!" She chirped as he greeted her. Despite being a mother now, Auriga had not changed. Sometimes, her children acted more adult than she did!
"What're you doing awake? Surely if you were staying at home, some sleep would have been in order?"

Eridanus smiled back at Auriga and gave her a welcoming nuzzle.
"I couldn't sleep. I guess being nocturnal runs in the family...!" he chuckled. "And the other two are off galavanting and socialising." He shuffled his hooves a little. Although he loved company, he was still a little shy.

Auriga shook her head slightly and smiled. "Who would have thought being nocturnal was genetic!"
She looked around. "Yeah, I figured they would be out. Oathkeeper is out, too. So it's just us for now. Fancy a walk to find something to drink?" Auriga turned to leave, looking back at Eridanus. "Might as well enjoy the morning light."

Eridanus nodded slightly and followed Auriga, walking alongside her.
"I think I need to start wandering around, like you used to. It;s how you found dad, right? So maybe I'll meet more new friends that way?" He looked at the ground slightly, watching his hooves crush the fresh grass, and then watching it ping back up after he lifted his hoof again.
"I just don't know how to approach others..."

Auriga chuckled softly. "You're polite and well mannered, there's no reason for you to be worried about approaching others. Very few would find you offensive and not want to talk to you. I think that would be a good idea though..." She nodded in agreeance as they approached a small, crystal clear rock pool.
"Although I would certainly miss you, it would do you good to get out and see the world. Travelling is wonderful! And you can always come back here whenever you feel like it..." Auriga smiled at him before leaning her head down to drink. She wasn't lying, she would miss him dreadfully if he let. But who was she to say otherwise? She loved travelling, and wanted to encourage her children to do the same.

Eridanus frowned slightly as he looked skyward. "Hmm... I dunno how I'd do out there." He grumbled slightly before taking his mother's lead and taking a large drink, quenching his thirst.
Once he was done, he lifted his head and looked around. "Maybe I should.... maybe I should just run, and see where the wind takes me. There are so many Soquili, who knows who I'll meet....?" He smiled slightly and looked back at Auriga.

Auriga looked up at him and smiled in return. "You should! It's a wonderful feeling. And you'll see the night sky in so many more beautiful ways. Who knows, you might even find your namesake..." She laughed slightly. "The constellation Eridanus can't be seen from here. Maybe you should make that your goal? To search for it?"

Eridanus smiled widely and nodded. "Maybe I should... that's a perfect goal! And it will give me reason to wander, and search... And surely, I will meet new Soquili along the way!"
Eirdanus gave a contented sigh. "It's settled... I shall run. But not until I've seen the rest of my family first. I would miss them even more if I never said goodbye first."

Auriga laughed slightly. "Well, there you have it... You can go and search and meet new people, broaden your horizons... Its a wonderful idea.." She gave her son a reassuring nudge.
"Spend one more night her with us so we can all watch the stars together... Then, you can set off... I'm sure Oblivion will come visit you and keep us updated on how you are..." She smiled. Oath's eagle companion was a kind bird, as far as she'd seen.

Eridanus looked back to the sky. "Yeah... I would like that. And I'll come back before too long. Who knows, I might even bring someone home!" He laughed slightly as he and Auriga set back towards home.
"I'll probably see Starwielder and Starseeker more often if I'm out and about!" He laughed again.

Auriga laughed too. It's true that all of her children had inherited her wandering spirit. But she was glad of that. It was good for them to see the world. And it gave her more time alone with her Oath!
"Very true! Those two do wander often. And who knows, you may even see me out there sometime!" She smiled. Family life may have calmed her for now, but Auriga knew that now that her foals were grown up, it wouldn't be long before she was out running again, although this time with Oathkeeper at her side.

Eridanus smiled and nodded. "I hope I do... I'd like for us all to run together one night, under the stars, as a family. It'd be fun!" He flicked his tail enthusiastically.
"But first, I have to find others... And I need to see if I can actually speak to other mares!" He chuckled slightly.
