Earthy-red paws trotted across dry land draped in moonlight... A shaggy wolf attached to them. Mzaa had been wandering... for who knew how long? Ahead was water, water would be good. The orange wolf altered his path towards the shimmer ahead. Yes, he'd be there shortly.
He didn't find the fact that he didn't have a home depressing at all like some would. Every day was a different adventure. While the maned wolf would be happy to settle down and pick a den and adopt some cubs... He was quite content meandering here and there, sharing his wise words with those who would listen to an older wolf... His age showed on his muzzle...
He pulled himself from his thoughts and thirstily drank from the water when he reached it. Somehow, he managed to keep a smile, despite everything. "I don't think I've lost touch with myself at all... have I?" came his deep, strong voice to his reflection, as if it would respond. He didn't expect a soul to be around. "Hmph." He sighed quietly to himself, taking one short moment to look at his reflection before turning his eyes skyward, a searching look in his eyes...

Baka'Mbu had been seriuosly thinking... about what she was going to do with her time now that... well... now that she was alone some more. She had wandered for a while-found her new friend -inattimate object kind of friend- and carried it with her everywhere but... it wasn't very fun all the time. Infact she carried her white friend tucked behind her ear or in her mouth at all times-silly white thing it was- until she found time to play with it. Now, she wanted to nap... so she had found a nice spot beside a little stream where she could nestle her black form into a tight ball and sleep for a bit.
And thats what she did, tucking her white toes under her body and wrapping her tail around her nose, white feather sticking out from her dark pelt. Soon, sleep was apon her and she make not a snore-for sleep came quietly and easily for this female. Soon, she was dreaming wonderful dreams-but was woken by someone talking. She lifted her head out of the bunch of reeds that hide her form to see a brightly colored-redish orange Maned wolf, just like her. She cocked her head, with the white feather still behind her ear. Who was he talking too?
Hello? She said quietly, blinking her brown eyes curiously.

Mzaa jerked his head down and toward the source of the sound... Someone was here? "Hello," He offered tentatively, peeking at the reeds. He padded forward enough to see just over the edge... And come eye-to-eye with an almost all black wolf, just like him.
Upon seeing what it was, he became more confident and sat where he was. "Well hello! You blend in quite nicely, I didn't even see you!" He completely forgot all he had to think about, and turned quite jovial. "I'm Mzaa, who're you?" He asked, tilting his head. By this age he could quickly judge one's personality, at least whether they were dangerous or not, and this female was not.

Baka smiled when his head came up pretty close to her, and she giggled out loud. She perked herself and shook her head enough side to side, to knock the feather out from behind her ear and floating too the ground. Her white tipped tail wagged back and forth as she tok in the sight of the brightly colored male-she had only seen the black's and grey's of her sisters when she was a baby... and that was not too long ago. She was excited by these new colors-and let out a silly yip. That's because I was all curled up... and I'm black... so I blended into the shadows!
My names Baka'Mbu... glad to see another wolf like me-Mister Mzaa. She said sweetly, sitting down and putting a paw down on her white friend. She tossed her head and padded out of the reeds, stopped with a jolt, spun around and grabbed her feather-before turning back. I haven't seen another Wolf since my siblings and I left.

Mzaa nodded at her comment about blending with the shadows. "It's nice to meet you, Baka'Mbu. Mind if I call you Baka? Or Mbu? It's a little shorter." He asked with a happy smile. "And I'm glad you could meet another wolf! I haven't seen one other than myself in quite a while either..." He gave the idea just a moment's thought before he continued on.
"I like your feather, where'd you get it?" He asked. He had no intentions of taking it or anything, just making some conversation. "It's very nice."

This is where Baka's silly attributes came into play. She smiled devilishly and set the feather down so she could speak to him. She smiled, a warm and kind smile... and started her short story of her white friend. Well... I found it when I was just a little pup... I haven't given it a name yet... but I carry it with me always-when I was lonely or wanted to play... my feather was always there for me... even more so than my sisters were. So...
I usually carry it behind my ear-like this-She demonstrated. Or I carry it in my mouth. I've only lost it-once or twice... and I take good care of it... My mother... it reminds me of my Mother sometimes.
Isn't that silly. I must sound so-so silly to you. She said, shutting her eyes and lifting her muzzle in a nod. For some reason, she had been attached to that feather, a rather long and thin one, since she was a baby. Perhaps her security blanket of sorts. She sat down and lifted her paw so he could see it better.
It was very bright white, with a small patch of brown in the middle. It was long and slender, with a slight curve to it-think of it as a white rooster tail feather perhps- and was very pretty to gaze upon. I think it's the best there is.

"Oh no, that's perfectly understandable! You don't sound silly, Lots of people have something they carry with them. When I was a pup, I had a nice rock... It was very smooth, greenish. I took it everywhere between my toes-" The bright male held up his left paw. "But then... it was raining one night, I had to cross a river, and the current picked me up. Rainy season and all... Anyway, it fell out in the fast water." Mzaa finished his story with a slight nod.
"It is an awesome feather, I've never seen one like that," he said, turning his attention back to it. He felt for her when she mentioned her mother... his own mother died when he was a very young adult, probably about her age... And he'd never met his father in his whole life.
"Your mother... Is she... alright?" he asked, deciding that "alright" would be a better word than "alive" or "dead."

Baka gazed down at her feather and giggled. A rock... she had never thought about carrying a rock around with her... they didn't seem that much fun... There were pretty rocks out there though and she smiled down at her feather-because it was the most beautiful one she had ever had... and she had actually had many. She laughed. Really? I'm sorry to hear that your rock 'went for a swim' She said, sitting down and curling her tail over her feet.
My Mom... well... Too tell you the truth, having us 6 girls plus six before that... she was relieved when we were weaned and ready to go on our own. I sort of-well... I really don't know how or where she is... makes me sad sometimes.
Not knowing where my Mother is in all.. but.... I like to think she had more puppies... so that my family could get bigger and bigger and I might see a sibling someday. I always say 'a wish is better than a curse'-so I wish all the time. Puppies made my mom very happy...She said, puffing out her chest. She then thought of something else and cocked her head. Did you name your rock?

Makali listened to her life story. "That's what a lot of wolves do... leave and not come back." He thought of his own past... "I did the same thing, only with fewer siblings. My mom only had us, but then she kicked us out. I think she was about to have more pups..." He remembered, tilting his head as if to facilitate the memories.
"I didn't ever name my rock. I called it rock, I guess that could have been its name. It's a bit of an odd name though," the older wolf said with a nod. She was an optimist, that was sweet.
The next was off topic, but he felt it very necessary to ask. "Do you have a place to stay? And food?" He wouldn't let her go away if she didn't have them... That'd be sending the young wolf to her death.

Baka nodded. She had not met many wolves before her family so she really didn't know the proper things that happened and such. She was pretty sure that she was a bit diffrent from other wolves... but she really didn't care. In fact, she was proud to be strange in her own way. Not many carried around objects of no importance... but this other Wolf did and she thought that was swell. She giggled and bounced her head up and down. Rock prolly was it's name that you gave it. I haven't named my feather yet... I try and I try and I can't seem to find a good name... Feather works sometimes but... It is sort of my family... ya know.
So it deserves a name... but I figure It'll come to me someday She said, not really making any comment to the wolf subject. She sort of did that, went to subjects that were happy and carefree-like her. She reached down and nombed on the feather's quill for a moment before looking up at him. Urm... No
I was actually looking for someplace to be dry... I hate wet.. and my feather always gets so heavy and saggy and always looks so sad... otherwises... yeah... Erm.. I ate um... sometime ago... last... yesterday. I really don't notice hunger much... and I'm not really good at hunting still... I'm still a big klutz I suppose

"Well, practice makes perfect!" He said with regards to hunting. That was the only way he'd learned to keep himself alive, by needing to hunt, and doing it often. He'd slowly gotten better, Baka would be no different, all she needed was practice. "If you'd like a roof over your head and an extra set of eyes on the hunt, I'd be more than happy to join you," Mzaa said. "I'm good at spotting big shelters," The wolf tilted his head. Part of him wondered if she'd come, he had after all, just met her. Still, he couldn't just leave her to fend for herself! She looked like she was just barely an adult, still a pup in a lot of ways.
Well, the offer was there, that was the best he could do.

Baka shifted back and forth on her paws, gazing down at her feather as droplets of rain fell down onto it, pulling its usual bent shape into a flatter one, as the drops began to weight it down. She growled and picked up her feather, shaking it violently side to side, getting the droplets off. She then flung the feather from her mouth and said with a very excited tone of voice-Really? You mean, you'd let me follow you around and stay in your sleeping places!? She said, her tail wagging happily, as her feet stamped.
She bounded around him, yipping and yapping, her feet tossing high. Oh how fun, she wasn't going to be alone now... she didn't have to eat frogs and other retched things... she could learn to hunt... and she would have someone else to talk too other than her 'white friend'.
She could barely restrain herself, She ran up and covered his face with kisses. Then, she bent down and picked up her feather, holding her head high.
We should wook fer' somep'ace to stay dwy' She said, as a few more raindrops fell. She said, gazing around.

Mzaa couldn't help but chuckle at her enthusiasm. He couldn't remember the last time he'd made someone so happy. She reminded him of... No, that was in the past. Suffice it to say the maned wolf had helped many youths over the course of his lifetime and taught them how to survive when they seemed to struggle. Many times, he became quite attached and always had to let them go eventually. But when all was said and done, he always knew it was a good thing that they were able to make it on their own. Baka reminded him of one past "adoptee."
"Yeah, we can travel together! And yes, we should find some shelter from the rain, before it gets heavier." He glanced around, trying to spy some hint of a good place. A cave, right now would be perfect. "This way, I think there's one over here..." He'd been in the area before, though not recently. He padded off at a medium speed around a rock, peering to see if there was a cave.

She nodded happily, her white tipped tail wagging excitedly. It had been a while since she had any kind of companionship except for her feather. She wouldn't complain about it though... what ever fell her way would suffice. She was a very laid back girl... she took her life in stride-and being alone had been one of those little bumps in the road. But now. She had Mzaa to keep her company and this made her pleased.
She nodded frantically, mouthing the white feather back and forth for a moment, padding along behind him. After a few attempts at getting the feather to the back of her teeth, so she could still talk a reasonable bit-she spoke.
I haven't really traveled with anyone for a long time. I really apprecaite it Mzaa. She said with a smile, her brown eyes shut. I think I may have seen a cave but... I can't remember where.

"No problem," Mzaa said turning back to her. No doubt in his mind- she reminded him of his daughter... She had run off on him years ago, but she certainly had the same personality. It made him want to help her all the more. "We'll find that cave soon, I'm sure there's one around here somewhere..." He continued to pad on without changing the pace, looking from one place to another before his blue eyes found it. "Ah, there!" He said with a jerk of his muzzle to the cave's location.
"I knew there was one here!" He said cheerfully as he padded into it. "It's plenty big too, both of us can fit." He said happily, shaking what water had gotten on his coat off before Baka came in.
