Here's everything I don't like about this movie. Don't get me wrong! I actually liked this movie. I'm just telling you what irked me.
Ten minutes after the movie first started, I already get annoyed with Hawkeye's whistling. When Hawkeye and Duke meet Frank, it is shown Frank's teaching Ho-John how to read the bible. Now that is nice. But Hawkeye and Duke hand Ho-John a porno and told him to read that instead. They only knew Frank for a few seconds, but they're already making fun of him by singing "Onward Christian Soldiers." That's really just not fair to Frank. Then we later meet Trapper. Hawkeye and Trapper look like stoners in the film. MASH takes place in the Korean War, which was in the fifties. If it weren't for the "And then there was Korea" at the beginning, you would think the movie took place in Vietnam. We finally see what a jerk Frank is when he blames the patient's death on Boone, therefore making Boone cry. It's just not cool to make a little kid cry. Frank later has an affair with Hot Lips, who tells Frank to "Kiss her hot lips." It was broadcast throughout the camp which is how that slut got her nickname. Then Hawkeye relentlessly taunted Frank until Frank went bezerk and started attacking Hawkeye, which was how Frank was sent to a psyche ward. If Hawkeye hadn't been provoking Frank, he never would have gotten attacked. Then there's Painless, who is "the best equipped dentist in the Army", and it's not because he has a lot of drills and scrapers. He thinks he's gay so he decides to commit suicide. Hawkeye later tries to get Dish to sleep with Painless. I don't know why Dish was so willing to sleep with Hawkeye and so hesitant to sleep with Painless. Painless was better looking than Hawkeye. Duke tries to prove that Hot Lips is not a natural blonde by pulling up the shower tent. Now, I have no problem with seeing Sally Kellerman naked, but it won't really prove anything because the carpet is always slightly darker than the drapes. And we never find out if Duke has proven himself wrong or right. When Hawkeye and Trapper go to Tokyo, they were really disrespectful to the women working at the hospital there. They had that black receptionist scared s**tless and Trapper tells the nurses to find "At least one nurse who knows how to work in close without her tits in my way!" Then they meet Me Lay who is another one of Hawkeye and Trapper's stoner friends. After returning to the 4077th, they find out Duke and Hot Lips were having sex and then they told General Hammond that they have a football team. And they told him without Henry's consent. So then we meet Spearchucker. I like the character. But I don't like his nickname. It's sounds racist. During the football game, it was made pretty obvious that Hot Lips has never cheerleaded before nor has she ever been to a football game. She kinda annoyed me in those scenes. Then there's the footballers on the opposing team smoking pot. I just thought that was kind of unrealistic.

Well, it's honestly been a long time since I saw the movie, but it's really an experience that I would NOT care to repeat. To me the movie, just like the very early episodes, focuses too much on sex.

I hate the way this movie SOUNDS. As some of you know, I am a video editor, and sound editing is rather difficult. I know that this film was shot with a technique known as "realism," but it is so hard to hear so many of the actors in this film. That is something that drives me nuts!
In general, I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of Robert Altman's films. His style is that of realism, but that's not really my style personally. To me, realism takes forever to get to little point at all. Take Gosford Park, another Altman film. That movie took forever got get nowhere, and that was another one that was a little hard to hear at times.
Just my opinion on the film industry. IEditYourWorld

You've got a point there, but I still don't really like the movie.
