i want to get a heavier, more voctorious grid out of my fender 212.
and now my question for you is, can you use a tube screamer on a solid state amp.
if so or not, any suggestions for a dist. pedal geared more for hard rock/metal?

I'm unsure, but Maybe a Digitech Metal Factory would give you more of a crunch out of it.

I have a question as far as tube screamers as well. I like the tone from my Peaver Bandit, But I wanna Try and Warm the sound up, it's so... Sterile.

think a Tube screamer might slap a bit more warmth on my tone?

You can get a good heavy sound out of any amp by using the right settings and pedals. I would say you can try it, but I don't use them. Either get a full effects processor or get a very trusetd metal pedal like the Boss MetalZone or the Digitech Metal Master. Also, even though I don't like it, the Zakk Wylde overdrive made by Dunlop. Just look around for pedals and test them. Its all in your taste. Also to let you know, at the Guitar Center by my house, the Tube Screamer is attached to a solid state amp. I would think that it would work.

I'd also say try out a tubescreamer before you buy one.

When I got mine used, and partially damaged, I was looking for a different tone, and it certainly serves that purpose. If you like the amp/distortion sound of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepellin, and very early Metallica, pre-90s AC/DC sound you might like it. I guess there are different models too. . . which I don't know much about.

For me the tubescreamer works well in a chain. . . It could sound good with reverb if you're doing something bluesy and want to go retro. On its own, it's definitely a retro sound these days. . . At least as far as what I listen to goes, your much more likely to hear a filter than a tube amp.

There are a few things I don't like about the pedal. . . so don't spend an arm and a leg for it. It tends to dirty the mix somehow, if you record, and it begs a few more notches for distortion sometimes.
