so for me, the semester's over. and today was especially depressing.
i was SO set on seeing a show tonight...the new caryl churchill play with sam shepard (yes, THE sam shepard) starring, but POO it was sold out for the rest of his performances. which was more infuriating than any other obstacle i've faced in seeing a show.
so i was gonna get tickets to john patrick shanley's new play 'doubt.' which is sold out til january 16th. this combined with the last loss was frustrating.
i thought about seeing rent, but i really didn't want to see it with nick lachey. not to mention i had already seen the national tour, and i had talked to people who had seen this particular broadway with nick, and apparently the cast is somewhat worn out. and nick is supposedly just awful. i'd rather not take my chances with that.
so this week, it's down to three shows: guantanamo (which i think i can get tickets for), wicked, and mayyyybe dracula. wicked is just a question of lottery, and i've got a lot of chances to try and get a ticket. dracula i only wanted to see maybe because the score might be decent (it's by frank wildhorn, who wrote jeykll and hyde and the scarlett pimpernel), but apparently the score's not that great. and don black's lyrics are supposedly awful. i still kinda wanna see it though...there's no cast recording scheduled. hmm.
and the revival of la cage! we'll see.
this is the question: for those of you in the city or near it, have you seen dracula already? i'm still debating on whether or not i should bother.

BentoMaker_Yung-I this is the question: for those of you in the city or near it, have you seen dracula already? i'm still debating on whether or not i should bother. I have not seen it, but a group from my old high school went and they ALL hated it! I have heard alot of mixed things about it. My friend Katlin said that the actors were all fine, but the whole story was a peice of crap. She also said it sounded alot like Jekyll and Hyde all over again. So if you're not a fan... I'd skip it. I say take the chance with Wicked! It can't hurt to try. And trust me, i've won lottery before, the seats are amazing! just be warned, Joey what's his name sucked when I saw it last week. And if ya do try for lottery and ya don't win, you can always run over to TKTS and get something less popular. If it's an evening show, I was passing Avenue Q the other day and their lottery was REALLY small, so you might have good chances with that too.

so i got tickets for the last performance of 'guantanamo.' and danny glover's doing the finale!
i saw DRACULA.
i could write an essay. but to put it tartly: eh...the score was decent. the staging was problematic. the set was overpowering. the special effects were nice.
THE ACTING WAS SO BLAH.
seriously. THIS is what is wrong with theater, especially musical theater today. so many people put too much emphasis on the song and dance aspect and not enough on the acting. and having performed a few selections from hamlet or reading a few books and plays doesn't qualify as suffiecient training. seriously...
so tomorrow i've got work at the american airlines theater, and i'll probably see twelve angry men again...which is 100% FREE for me since i'm working the kiosk. but i think i'm going to catch either 'democracy' or 'wicked.' it depends on if i win the lottery. i'm kind of excited but not really...i'm really only seeing it for a)idina, b) the costumes, and c) the set.

BentoMaker_Yung-I this is the question: for those of you in the city or near it, have you seen dracula already? i'm still debating on whether or not i should bother. A city near me has done an off-off broadway version of it. I didn't get to see it, even though I wanted to. I've heard it's amazing. You're so lucky! I wish I could go see a Broadway production over break. I MIGHT go see Miss Saigon, but that's really up in the air. Hooray for having no money. xp

I was going to see Dracula in February, with my drama club. But after all of the bad reviews, we changed our minds.
How'd you do at the Wicked lottery? ((Good luck if you haven't already done it))
