Hsien-Ko was feeling quite disgruntled lately about a lot of things. Her mind traveling backwards to the incident with the kalona dragon from the abyss. Breathing fire and smoldering the teepee in her frustration was all that lied within the ghost mare's memory. She'd been spending quite a bit of time with Qin these past few days lasting to weeks then months, and who knew what else lied in store for the two. Her mind wandered endlessly as she remembered things past and present up to this current point in time.

Now she knew something else was arriving soon and wondered when would be the time to breathe the truth to her cherished mate. Strange how those two words would have been foreign to her before she met Qin. While still having quite a bout with herself about opening one's heart, she still managed to say it only once to him. An unsheathing of her sword in the calm of absent battle where she opened the lock to her precious feelings.

Now, within her womb there sparked new life waiting to be born.

Deciding to head back to the grove of trees where she made her home she kept her mind deep in contemplation, while her ears sought out anything unsettling sneaking about. Generally Hsien was feeling a bit tired, but she still could kick the best of them if need be. She wasn't afraid to be herself even if it meant taking her unborn babies with her.

Qin was having the time of his life, it was him and Hsien, and he loved it. He had had a quick meal that morning but now he was trotting along the forest trail to go see her. He had brought her a treat, a little bag of sugar cubes. He carried the little parcel delicatly in his mouth, though his stomach rumbled hungrily.

He knew he was nearing Hsien's home when he found the paths split into two directions, he confidently took the one to the left, past the old maple tree, and the dead stump. Her home was right ahead, he called out, "Hsien?" He knew that she might mistaken him for an enemy, she had done so once before, it had hurt.

Hsien snorted with a grunt as she kept onward, her belly feeling heavy and swollen. Seemed like she was hungry again which royally annoyed her to stop and satisfy her cravings. Lowering her head she lipped at long grass, eating rapidly to control that horrible pang gnawing at her.

A sound came suddenly as she pulled her head up sharply with eyes intent on whom was arriving. A strange shiver rounded up her spine as Hsien scented the air, seemed company was arriving. Inhaling more deeply she noted it was Qin. First his scent then his voice carried to her making the ghost mare a little more at ease as her belly rumbled for more substance.

When she felt the calm was more than the unknown she whinnied so he could find her, "Over here Qin. No worries I won't kick you this time." she chuckled with a toss of her head in amusement. Last time he snuck up on her he found out just how fast she could be, especially with her claws she used as defense and attack methods.

Now how would he accept this wonderful news she wondered...

Qin grinned, and setting down the parcel so he could speak, called out, "Okay, that sounds very good to me!" He picked up the little parcel and followed the trail though the trees until he saw Hsien nibbling at some long grass. He stopped and hesitated for just a second, had she gained weight? He didn't think she would, a warrior had to stay fit.

Oh well, He thought, he was still happy to be able to spend time with her. He continued on to stand in front of her, and he said, "I brought you some sugar cubes." He smiled though the parcel in his mouth as he gently lay it down on the grass in front of Hsien. He nuzzled her fondly in greeting.

The ghost mare grunted, nuzzling her mate in return. "Ah the thought was genuine of you dear Qin." she nickered bending her head down to sniff the parcel.

Another swift kick to her ribcage practically jarred her out of place. Biting downward she cursed silently nosing the parcel open to retrieve a sugarcube or two. Letting the sweetness dissolve upon her tongue she smiled blissfully before crunching the rest and swallowing. Grunting again she brought her head up toward him looking out from her (fu), though this time he could directly look at her and see her beautiful eyes doing so.

She pondered a moment before clearing her throat looking at him nonchalantly for a moment, "Qin... tell me. Have you noticed anything different lately with me?" she pondered his knowledge of babies within swollen bellies and chuckled to herself.

Now she would see if he truly knew or not. He was in fact a puzzle solver after all, so her pregnancy wouldn't be a problem.

Qin felt his cheeks turn red, and he pondered weather to answer her question truefully or not. He decided Hsien would want to hear his trueful opinions. He flicked his ears and cautiously said, "Well, hm, anything different..." he paused, then blushed and continued, "Well, you look, ah well, a um...a little...rounder?" He was actually a little scared of what Hsien's reply would be to him saying she looked way out of shape.

Hsien reached in the box yet again appreciating the sugary sweetness that was lying upon her tongue. Before she breathed once again she pondered how to relate the news rather then outright snap at her mate like she normally would have. She couldn't take on any excessive exercise at the moment nor could she keep up much stamina for the babies were quite a burden upon her once strong legs. This wasn't saying she couldn't fight, oh no she could draw energy as readily as she needed it. But Hsien preferred to take it easy due to her breathless fatigue that caused her to rest certain interludes.

"Hmph... rounder is part of it Qin. Do you remember the promise I made you once we accepted one another. When those three words were unlocked from that chamber and spoken only once. It signified what was to come, what will be among us.." she spoke with her belly swaying from the contents becoming restless, "A promise from a warrior is an oath of eternity unless the vow is broken. And with this pledge there comes certain responsibilities."

She grunted stamping a hoof downward from a sharp kick in her side. Breathing she paused in her words and closed her eyes before they reponed looking directly upon him.

"Qin... you're going to be a father..."

Qin had been listening attentivly to Hsien, but when she told him he was going to be a father he reeled in shock, steeping back a pace. He shook his head, comprehending what Hsien had just said. If he wasn't already white, he would have turned it by now. He wheezed a couple times, mind racing, I can't be a father! I can't even take care of myself? How did this happen, I didn't expect it. AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! He shook his head a couple times and said stutteringly,

"A-a-a-a, a fa-father? With little, little foals running around? Me?" He kind of slumped to the ground, in total shock. He saw Zi come up and swung his head around to look at her.

Zi laughed and said, "You didn't notice before? I've known for a month now, but I thought even you weren't that out of it." She shook her head and nuzzled Qin in a rare moment of affection, and said, "Don't worry, You'll be a great father, Hsien will be a wonderful mother, and I'll be helping you the whole time."

Qin raised his head, he had been thinking while Zi had been talking, and the idea of foals had began to dawn on him. He liked it, his own little children running around, just as knock-kneed and playful as he had been. He got up and grinned.

Hsien raised a brow in the childish nature portrayed there right in front of her. Though she wasn't the type to burst out laughing a soft smile curved upon her maw as she watched his shock cover him like a coming storm. Hsien knew the initial surprise was going to open his eyes, for her she just took it as it was meant to happen.

"Yes Qin you are going to be a father for soon, " she paused stamping down a hoof from a vicious kick, "they will arrive." Breathing more calmly she was content once the children settled. Her thoughts wandered away from there pondering something forgotten.

Where had Mei-Ling traveled to for all this time?

More like a sister than a familiar with a very snarky over tone, she still was Hsien's only family. Shaking her head she returned to the present just to catch Zi and Qin's conversation. A smile once again found its way to her seeing the bond she and Mei-Ling shared as well.

It seemed more than ever now a days that she smiled a lot more than she used to. Perhaps this was a good thing coming into motherhood so soon.

Qin's eyes widened, they would arrive soon! He said concerned, "Are you alright? Do you need anything to eat? Drink? Anything at all?" He felt such concern and love for the little foals inside Hsien.

Qin knew that he would have to be responsible for his mate and now his unborn children. He knew he was being overprotective, but thats what fathers did, right?

He paced a little worridly, it was just getting over winter, would it be too cold for the foals? What would happen if he wasn't a good father? His concerns turned into worries, and worries into fears. He felt a light touch on his shoulder, and heard Zi say, "It'll be fine, stop worrying yourself."

Hsien herself was ready for this huge change in her life, anxious to have herself fit and full of vigor once more. It had seemed forever now as she grew larger that her stamina was lowering with a side of laziness setting in. Sometimes she was worrying that she'd loose her spirit, but it was all nonsense in her mind.

Hsien could never bypass who she was or what she enjoyed in life.

Still her thoughts turned toward her "sister" in wondering why she'd not come back after all this time. Mei-Ling always had a good reason for disppearing, but Hsien still worried something could happen.

Smiling with the absorbed worriment of her mate she gently rested her head upon his back lying suspended like that to soothe his fear. With her compassion as close as she was to him, the deep heartbeats of her own echoed into his.

"Qin. You will do just fine as a father. They will be raised as only we know and be wonderful children. Do not worry for we have one another if you've forgotten... and Zi shall be there by your side." She smiled closing her eyes for a moment whispering very softly, "Mei-ling I know you are on a journey, but be safe till you return."

As Hsien's head rested on his back, he felt her confident words wash over him, like a refreshing drink on a cool day. He bobbed his head a few times, and said, "Yes, you are right. Zi will help."

He knew Hsien would love their babies to the death, but his mouth twitched in the faint hint of a grin as he figured she must be dying to get back in shape. He said, "How are you feeling? Do you need anything?" He paused and gestured towards Zi, continuing, "I'll make Zi go get it." The last part was said with a grin on his face, and he saw Zi's eye's narrow and a glower settle on her face. He laughed.

Hsien nuzzled Qin shaking her head, "I'm quite fine though I feel time is approaching with more ferocity than even I may deal with my own claws." she nodded with another grunt due to a swift quick in her womb. Perhaps she'd look that two-legger up when time was approaching for all Soquili such as her and her children had to experience baskets made by those that walk upon two legs.

Smiling to Zi she shook her head, "Its all right Zi. If ever Mei-ling comes back from wherever she traveled you'll have help watching over the babies. She's quite cocky at times with a touch of interesting annoyance."

"Qin I'm sorry that Mei-ling wasn't mentioned but really I have not any assumption where she may be. She is like a sister to me yet she is a fox like Zi. I suppose when she is ready her little paws will carry her back to find me." the mare spoke with another grunt as she gritted her teeth.

Perhaps that time wasn't far off after all.

Qin watched wide eyed, Hsien seemed to be in a lot of pain. He nosed her flank gently, and jumped back as he felt a kick in the nose. He yelped, and shook his head. He glared at Zi as he heard her snicker. "They sure are fiesty" he said, wide eyed.

Cautiously he moved his head a little more forward again, like a young colt who's nose had just been pinched by a crab, but still wanted to find out what it was. He asked,

"Will it be long until it is time for them to come out into baskets?" He had always wanted young ones of his own, his only possible problem was keeping track of the baskets. He was notoriously good at accidently leaving things in different places.

Hsien nuzzled him assuring that she was quite fine. Her interest in following Celendria around daily gave her an insight to what lie in store for her. The ice mare of course was carrying quite a bit of babies from the looks of her over hanging tummy. Hsien didn't feel as fat herself yet she felt full with her and Qin's own expected miracles.

"I'm not sure but what I do know is I'll be visiting the two legger I fended off that Kalona dragon from. She's preparing for the arrival of many foals by the baskets she's been weaving. Qin will you allow me to do this? I'm sure you'd be allowed to visit once the baskets are filled and settled with the foals." she paused looking at the sky as the clouds rolled overhead, "I don't think even in my pride I could do this without a two-legger's help."

She looked down to Zi with a parted frown yet she was dignified and ready to accept this new lifestyle. Sure Mei-ling would probably scold her for becoming a mother so soon, but yet she was her own mare and could take care of herself.

((I'm gonna have her have the babies in my preggorz thread in a short post or two, then she'll bring the baskets back... or you could hop over with me when I do post))
