Well, I was having a conversation with a person that I don't really like too much, yet I feel sorry for him. But he asked if I called the number 999-999-9999....and I was like No...and he said that it was a devils number. Then he ask me out of no where if I believed in the devil and I said no. He, right away assume that I was an Atheist. I told him that I wasn't an Atheist and that I don't have a religion and that I just simply believe in what I believe in. Ex: Evolution, Science. I do believe that Jesus was real but you know....wasn't the Son of God and stuff. Basically I don't believed in like, powers and stuff.
Some time pass by and he was in shock at some of the stuff I wrote because he thought I was kinda stupid. LOL, this other day we were talking about religion again and he made me laugh soooo hard because everything that he said was not true and it wasn't written in the Bible. He said that Adam and Eve ate an Apple and commit there first Sin and he was wrong...in the Bible it said that they ate a fruit. I think he needs to read the Bible again. I never read the Bible, but my mom, when she was young, she was going to be a nun and fully devote herself to God and yea...so she knows a lot of stuff and she talks about religion a lot. Now...my mom doesn't have a religion and like me...she believes what make sense to herself.
Anyone ever made you feel uncomfortable before? And if I made you feel uncomfortable I am sorry I didn't mean to...I hope I didn't hurt anybody. D':

Me too. I do not like talking about religion to others unless I know they share my beliefs. I am a Christian, and sort of apprehensive to tell others since a lot of assuming comes into play. Immediately I am told I am a Hitler, I hate gays, I hate atheist and for some reason I hate democrats. gonk When I do not have a problem with anyone else's beliefs, lifestyles or political point of views, however, I am basically thrown to the wolves when I say I'm Christian, people will stop talking to me, or if I am in conversation with someone and sex comes up they're like: "Oh, you wouldn't know anything about that would you?"
It makes me angry beyond anything. I am a really open person, the only thing I hate is people telling me my beliefs are worthless. I am sure you're the same way too, it is why I can understand where you come from on this religion thing.
Just tell him you don't believe in his views and to ask him to refrain from speaking of religion to you since it makes you uncomfortable. If he persists just get up and leave until he gets the point, no one should have to sit there and listen to something they do not agree with - you have a choice to believe in what you do, even if it goes against someone else's beliefs just know that your defending in what you believe in - even if it does make someone else upset.
I hope he stops bothering you. Good luck!

I felt like that before.
Once last year, we had to write an opinion essay, and I wrote about my beliefs and how I felt that just because I didn't believe in the general religion (which around here is Mormonism) I felt alienated by some of the other students.
And I myself, am like you. I believe in science and evolution. Although I do kinda of like the ideas in the religion often used by the Greeks, in which there are several different gods.
Anyways, we had to have someone else in our class read it, and this boy in my class and I rad each other's. And promptly after he read my essay, he proceeded to tell me that everything that I believed was wrong, and I was stupid for believing it. After that it was really awkward to be around him.

The Mormons where I live scare me. They're very...-ahem- aggressive in their beliefs, that's a light term to put how they treat others. Even to Christians such as myself they are pretty nasty in how they discuss, treat, or talk to me. It worries me.
That opinionated essay happened with me too. Some boy read my essay on anime, and he completely belittled me and told me "girls who like anime, are fat, ugly and probably smell." Needless to say I felt like crap the rest of the day. -_-

Most of the mormons here are pretty nice... Although there are these two morons boys in my school who scare me. They told this girl in my grade Nina they were going to rape and kill her because she was Jewish. I do believe that one of the boys has been recently put into Anger Management.
I hate it that we have to be critiqued on our opinion in school. I mean, it's our thoughts and beliefs that count for the paper, not theirs.

Wow, those two need to be put away. Yeah, Jewish and wiccans/pagans have the worst time where I live. They face a lot of problems with other Christians and Mormons. Religion can bring the worst out in people, it's saddening.
I agree. Those opinion essays are nothing more than a other way to bully others.

I find that most of the time it's just easier not to talk about religion. It's not exactly a good thing, because i'm Christian and my youth pastor says we're supposed to try and save people and all that, but it's hard to do without pissing someone off. Almost impossible. :[
I hate it when people belittle my religion, or generalize, like iliyo was talking about. Seems like a lot people who aren't Christian just automatically assume that we hate gays, anyone who has a different religion, anyone who sins, etc. etc., which is absolutely ridiculous. The Bible says hate the sin, not the sinner, and nobody is perfect. :/ I don't hate anyone because of their beliefs.
In my other guild we used to have a big problem with that. People thought it was ok the talk crap about Christians, because "oh, there's none of them here, hurhurhur!", i guess. It's gotten better now, thankfully, but it really made me angry there for a while. I don't talk crap about other people's religions, i don't see why anyone has the right to talk crap about mine, especially when they know absolutely nothing about it.

I agree. If someone is willing to listen I will talk, however, I'm not going to press my beliefs on someone just because they do not believe in what I do. I wouldn't be happy if someone did it to me, so I try not to step on people's toes by not talking about my religion to others - unless they are Christian.
Because like you said, when we do come out that we're Christian people just assume the worst or most ridiculous ideas about us, and it's hurtful.

I know that sometimes people will hate you for not being their same religion. My Aunt Sandy is no exception. She thinks we're all going to hell because we don't read the bible 24/7 and we don't go to church. She called me and I was cooking dinner and she had the nerve to refuse to get off the phone until I prayed on the ******** phone with her. I almost burnt dinner because of her! D<
I don't care if people are of a certain religion, really. What I -do- care about is people trying to force their religion upon me and give me s**t about not being their religion. :/

I get a little worried when people tell me not to press my religion down their throat. What I mean to say is when I tell people that I am Christian if I tell them a belief of mine they tell me to stop pressing my beliefs on them, and I wasn't, I was just telling them something. -_-;;
That phrase "don't press your beliefs on me" is so general. I just want to know where the line is you know? Though I think that line might be different for everyone. >_<

Quote: I just want to know where the line is you know?
Religion can be one of the hardest topics to discuss when it comes to this day and age. It's a very chancy topic, mostly because when it is brought up, it's very easy to feel pressured or belittled, even if it's done unintentionally by another person. Even if you mean just to be casual, I think it's best not to bring up religion unless you're prepared to have a little controversy on your hands. Religion is a very personal thing and the chances that you'll find someone who one hundred percent shares your beliefs is rare.
I also think there's a big problem with people who go overboard with religion. This turns off a lot of people, including myself. I don't want to hear about why your religion is so amazing and about why mine sucks and about how I'm going to hell if I don't follow yours. The only thing that makes me want to do is tell you that if I'm going to hell, I might as well just say "Get the ******** away from me" and be done with it. Not everyone goes to such lengths, but quite a few people do. Most of them don't understand that they are going overboard, and I think a lot of them just seeing it as 'saving' someone. But you can only do so much to 'save' someone who doesn't want to be 'saved'.
For example, one time last summer when I was a cashier at a department store, I was just standing there innocently, and a man walked in and came up to me. I was thinking he wanted directions or something like that, and he looks at me and goes, "Do you go to church?" "... No." "You should. Church is very important." "... I don't like church." "Church is..." Blah, blah, blah. I wanted to run away, but instead I just stood there with an incredibly uncomfortable look on my face. I think this nice policeman who always used to come in and say hi to me noticed, because he knew the guy and lured him away. I was so grateful. -.-'''
The problem is when people start to think that their religion is the best. Because, for one religion to be the best, it means the others are not the best. And that means that people will start trying to 'save' others by converting them. I looked at the Doctor Phil show once, and there was this girl there who never shut up trying to convert others to her religion. She was very opinionated and every second word out of her mouth was about it. It's because of people like that, that it's so hard to talk about religion.
Anyway, if you want to tell me about your religion, that's fine. I'm willing to listen to you talk about it. But it can get uncomfortable very quickly, because as i l i y o said, where is the line? That line gets crossed a lot more quickly between strangers than it does between friends. If a friend was telling me about religion, I would be more willing to listen to her than I would if some stranger came up to me. If I had been in Asa-chan's position and a relative wanted me to pray on the phone, I'd either set the phone down and walk away or just hang up. I can listen, but don't preach to me.

Sometime ago a couple of my friends were telling me about Buddhism...I guess they thought I didn't know about it...but I did know a little about it cause my uncle is a Buddhist. But yea...if people are willing to just tell me what the religion is about...I am open to hear about it. But if they ask me what I believe in it and start questioning it and say rude things to me....I wont feel good. Lol.

My aunt is a Christian Fanatic. When I was getting a surgery on on left ear when I was in grade 5...she thought I was possessed with the devil...and she did weird stuff to me (weird as in, hit my forehead...speaking tongue). The most shocking, year of my life. I love my aunt and I kinda expected that from her, cuz...she wanted to bless our house. ^ Mom was kinda pissed off at her. lol

SakuraWars WinterBean Although I do kinda of like the ideas in the religion often used by the Greeks, in which there are several different gods. I also like the ideas that the Greeks use and some others as well.
This is the concept that I believe in the most; the idea that there are several different Gods and Goddesses. I'm taking a class in greek mythology this year and that's one of the reasons why I'm really excited about it. I don't know what the official 'name' for it is, so sometimes it gets hard to explain. Or, people assume you don't have a religion. -.-''' Nothing bugs me more than someone going, "You don't have a religion? Join mine!"
