The military world is full to burst of stupid (Or cool) ways to say simple things. Such as the alphabet. No, you don't get ABCs anymore! You get your Alpha-Bravo-Charlie's!

You take your first initials and change them to the word/letter in the alphabet! Like my name in phonetics is Romeo Mike, My sisters is Juliet Mike (Awkward moment...)

The military alphabet isn't stupid at all. Most letters of the alphabet are represented verbally by one-syllable sounds. With each letter only having one syllable to represent it, it makes it all the easier for the sound to be rendered incomprehensible through radio static. Letters such as S/F, T/D, B/P, and C/Z could become indistinguishable over the radio.
On the other hand, longer sounds give the folks sitting at the other end of the radio a better chance to figure out what the other person is trying to spell out. "Tango" and "Delta" aren't going to be confused with each other.
Also, I thought "nine" was usually spoken as "niner."

Ahehehe... Due to sudden reminder from our Recruitment thread, we now bring you the official definition of "Hot Bunking"... Um, yeah. I think you get the idea really. Oh fine, sex. Why the military had to come up with a word for it, I have no clue.
Here's some more, because the military has to be different:
Bulkhead: Wall
Head: Bathroom/Toilet
Port/Stern: Left/Right (Or was it Right/Left?)
Scuttlebutt: Gossip!
