Battlefield...RANDOMIZER! >O
The screen towering above the stadiums' bleachers began to rotate clockwise to determine what field the pokemon would fight on. Anticipation began to build as the dial began to slow down...
Finally, it came to a complete stop.
The field of choice was....THE SEASHORE FIELD!
Split down the middle between land and sea, this field compliments land and water type pokemon. On the west end of the field is the land section: fine grained sand gradually slopes downward to meet the salt water on the east end of the battleground. A single palm tree wavers lightly in the breeze (the stadium ceiling is open when this field is selected) while shells are scattered in random places in and on the sand. In the water half of the battleground, the water laps at the sand much like at a real beach; when it retracts it leaves behind strands of seaweed and pieces of coral. Both are found under the water, offering shelter for water-types (or those who can hold their breath for great periods of times).

Sunnie sheepishly walked to her trainer platform, blushing profusely and chewing on her fingernail. This was her first battle. Ever.
"Uhhmm... hii..." she said, in almost a whisper, to her opponent. "Umm... pretty new to battling... I... I hope I can learn something from this..." She looked across the stadium at the beautiful seashore in front of her. She let the breeze flow through her hair as the soothing sounds of waves splashing against the sand helped calm her nerves.
"...Oh! I almost forgot!" Sunnie said as she took a pokeball off of her belt. "Haha... almost forgot to send out my Pokemon... Go, Glace!"
Glace came out of his pokeball, somewhat confused as to where he was. Huhhh, this must be the arena I agreed to battle that funky-lookin' ninetales on... he thought to himself. After being somewhat disappointed that there were no berry bushes, he started looking around for his friend.

"No worries! Battling is fun, just enjoy yourself!" Luna replied after straining to hear the other trainer's words. She had concluded that she was going to have much fun breaking the other trainer into the basics of battling, but there was no chance she was going to go easy!
Nine suddenly popped out of her pokeball without Luna's call. She had promised the glaceon a battle afterall, even if she didn't quite enjoy the sand or water. "Hello again." She said from behind Glace. She wanted to see if she could suprise the other pokemon, knowing that she would most likely get some amusing reaction out of it.

"Oh, and here's your first lesson!" Luna broke out in a grin. "Expect surprises!" Oh yes. Surprises were very common in battle, attacking out of order, secretly, or coming up from the ground were all frequently used tactics. Anything was legal in battles.
Nine smirked. She had wanted to just give a friendly greeting, but it the attack was also a good idea. Nine inhaled quickly, noting the unique salty scent of the ocean air, before letting out a flamethrower at Glace's back. Of course, it wasn't too strong. She tended to start off light in battles.

"Huhh? Surprises?" Sunnie didn't like the sound of that. "But trainers aren't supposed to play dirty..."
"Aiiyeyyhhhhh!" Glace yelped as he felt the flames burning his back. "Owwww! That wasn't very nice!!" He shouted as he attempted to shake off the flames.
"Eeeeek! That really looked like it hurt!!" Sunnie cried. "Umm... But we're not done yet! Nope, not at all! We can do this!" She straightened herself up, and tried to put a look of confidence on her face. "Come on, Glace, show that Ninetales what you can do!"
"Uhh... huh? OH, she wants me to attack! Well, I uh..." Glace was unsure of himself, but soon started running towards Nine. He lept in the air, attempting to tackle the pokemon down.

"All's fair in war!" Luna said at the other trainer, the grin on her face growing even larger. "And here's your second lesson!" Luna held out two fingers, Have confidence in yourself and your team! Iron tail!"
Nine whipped around as soon as Glace came close, batter up! She caught the incoming pokemon with her tails, having to strain a bit to keep from tilting to the side from the force.
With the pokemon temporarily ensnared by her tails, she swung around again, this time flinging Glace towards the palm tree. Of course, if she missed, there was also some nice sharp shells around the area for Glace to land on.

"Ughhhh! Let me go!" shouted Glace, infuriated at being caught in a mess of tails. "Let me g-Ahhhhhhh!!"
Glace cut through the air like a frisbee, almost gliding in the cool breeze. His flight was cut short, however, when his back made direct contact with the trunk of the palm tree. He let out a sharp yelp, and collapsed in the sand.
"Nooooooooo!!" Sunnie buried her face in her hands and let out a sob. "Come on, Glace! Get up!" she cried, peeking through her fingers at her injured companion.
Glace moaned a bit before hearing his trainer's pleas. "..uhhnnnn... must get up... trainer... relying on me.... ughhh...." He slowly rose up from the sand, shaking off shells and dirt from his fur. "...alright. Alright! I can do this!!" Glace shouted. A newfound fire seemed to shine in his eyes - he meant business.
Sunnie lept up in the air and cheered at Glace's determination. "That's my Glacey! Alright now, uhmm..." she took out a small notebook from her pocket, full of notes she had written down as she watched trainers on television. "...oh, okay! Hey Glace, you know Bite? Use Bite!"
...bite... bite! I know that! Glace thought to himself as something suddenly came to him. He looked into Nine's eyes, bared his fangs, and let out a low warning growl. Almost suddenly, he began to run at her. Kicking up sand behind his feet, he jumped towards the ninetales, aiming for the neck.

"Not good enough~!" Luna taunted the other trainer. She paused for a second. Well, didn't want to scare the trainer THAT much. "But better! Nine, overheat!" She commanded. "Time to get this really fired up!"
Nine's eyes glowed red again. If that wasn't a good enough hint for danger, the sudden heat that flared up around her was. Before Glace could even reach her, Nine sent out a large shockwave of oppressing heat throughout the field, causing everything that it touched to heat up to extreme temperatures. Even the poor palm tree lit on fire.
"Ack...hoooooooooooooot!" Luna said, jumping back a little. "Be careful, these battles can get dangerous at times...especially when we start braking out the major moves!" She warned, letting out a little pant to cool herself. She really had to find a way to use overheat without dehydrating herself.

"Not good enough? Butbut I'm really trying..." Tears began to form in Sunnie's eyes, but she was soon distracted with the sudden heatwave.
"Wheww... it sure got hot in here...." She wiped off some sweat from her forehead, but soon realized something. "...ohgosh! That was a move!!"
Glace was inches away from Nine when she let out the wave of heat, and thus he was hurled back by it. He was almost thrown into the flaming tree, but luckily hit the ground beforehand.
"Ahhhh! Hot! Hothothot!!" Glace yelped as he did a strange little dance, shaking off embers and trying not to burn his paws on the now blistering-hot sand.
"Oh no! It's sooo hot..." Sunnie knew that she had to cool down the arena somehow... perhaps stopping Nine would do the trick. "Hey, Glace! Umm, use um... Ice Fang!"
Ice... Fang? Oh! Okay! The words seemed to go together in Glace's mind. Once again, he bared his fangs at Nine, growling. This time, however, his fangs took on a blue hue, as freezing breath became visible around his muzzle. His teeth became pointed icicles as he once again jumped at Nine, hoping his chilly attack would stop the heatwave.

Luna knew that the ice fang was not enough to break Nine's hold over the climate, but it could cause some problems. She needed to put it down. "Heat wave!"
Nine inhaled the humid air around her. Her previous attack had caused some of the water in the ocean to evaporate, causing a sharp spike in the humidity in the air, to her annoyance. But she could live.
She exhaled major drafts of flaming hot air at Glace. Some of it was deflected by his lead with his icy fangs, but it was sure to do some damage if he went anywhere near her. Speaking of which, Glace had arrived near her perimeter, biting one of her tails.
Nine didn't wince or make any indication of pain from the attack, she had a high tolerance thanks to her battles in the wild. Soon, her attack would truely set in on the other pokemon as soon as his frost cooled down.
Luna wipped some sweat from her brow. The heat was really on now!

After Glace had sunken his teeth into Nine's tail, he saw that she was about to let loose another heat attack. Knowing what it could do this time, he quickly darted away from her, dodging the drafts of scalding hot air.
"Uhhnnn... so hoottt..." Sunnie whined, wiping off some sweat from her face with a handkerchief. "Glaaace... Glaaaace... do that aagaaaiiin... make her stoooop..."
Glace had to stop Nine this time, for he feared that his trainer might keel over any second. His fangs turned to ice once more, and he lept at Nine with a mighty growl. He hoped to freeze the fiery pokemon in her tracks.

The other trainer wasn't fairing any better against the heat, but she bore it. As tempted as she was to let the other pokemon cool down the field, she needed to keep up her advantage. "Extrasensory!"
Nine focused on the incoming glaceon. Her tails flickered and waved, creating an illusion of stripes because of their design. The area around the ninetales began to distort, stopping the glaceon once again due to well...the whole environment caving in on him. The air, the sand, everything.
Using this distraction, Nine nimbly hopped over Glace to his back and prepared for another surprise attack if he managed to escape her first attack.
"You better move!" Luna warned the other trainer, panting a bit.

Glace stared at the stripes in front of him. How pretty... he thought. Soon, he saw the world around him being sucked into the stripes. The water, the tree, the sand was being pulled behind the ninetales. Glace stared and stared, and wondered how this was happening...
Suddenly, he saw Nine jump out from within the illusion. Quickly remembering where he was, he darted out of the way. He shook his head a few times, and the environment was restored.
"That's my Glace!" Sunnie shouted as she wiped away more sweat. "Come on, Glace... you can stop that pokemon... you... can doo iiit..." Sunnie leaned over the side of the trainer platform, woozy from the heat.
Uhhh, is she okay? Glace thought to himself. I better stop that pokemon soon!! He bared his fangs and ran towards Nine, preparing for the attack.
