Approximately two hundred years ago, the wizards guild, corrupted by their own power, released a great darkness into this world. They had hoped to use the power of the darkness to control Avryn, twisting it into a kingdom of their own design, but they were consumed instead, and turned into shadow creatures. The shadows ate away at Avryn, causing the world to fall into a great decline.
The spirit of Avryn, who many call "The Mother", then used her power to create warriors to fight back the darkness. However, these first warriors, born from the elements alone, were fragile creatures. In the first wave, many of them fell. However, they showed their great potential, stemming the growing tide of darkness.
Hurt from the deaths of her new children, the Mother was determined to bring forth a new generation of beings who would be able to stand firm against the evils in the world. Using the spirits of animals to give greater strength, she once again called upon the elements to create life. Born from the mix of lives, these new children were the first Zahdl.
These Zahdl immediately showed their strength and fought back the shadow creatures nearly to the dark place they had spawned from, the city known and Petite Noir. They were lead by a beautiful female zahdl, the crimson butterfly, Pelru, and assisted by the twin otherworldly wizards, Shion and Sevanet. Along with the powers of the guardians, powerful spirits summoned by the Mother to aid the zahdl in battle, they won battle after battle.
Finally, they reached Petite Noir. Overwhelmed by the power of the greatest shadow wizards, the zahdl faced the most challenging battle of their lives. In a moment of desperation, the guardian spirits sacrificed themselves to seal shut the portal that was leaking darkness into the world of Avryn.
In the end, the toll that the battle had taken on the zahdl was tremendous. No more than five remained alive after the fierce attacks of the shadow spirits. Devoid of their guardians and of their companions, these zahdl slowly faded into history. It is said that Perla left something of herself to aid future Zahdl. However, what this may be has been lost to history.
