The three had separated from the other groups as everyone dispersed, going their own ways. Koa had hung back near the now-dead plant store. Never one to keep pencil or paper handy except when he was required to bring them to school, he made do with memory, trusting that at least one of them would be able to remember the address.
"Either of you guys familiar with that area?" he asked, looking at the other two. He thought he might know of the community mentioned, having run errands through there for his parents, but it wasn't one he'd explored much. "All we've gotta do is find this lady and ask her a couple questions. It's easy enough, we should be able to finish easy and catch up with the others. That cool with you guys?"

Watching as the rest of the groups started heading their separate ways, Vale shoved his hands into his coat pockets in a futile effort to keep them somewhat warm in the winter air. With the disturbing squash safely tucked away inside his backpack, he wrapped the scarf more snugly around his neck, determined not to catch the flu or a cold on this little outing. He had work, and being ill meant a definite decrease in pay.
Waiting with his own group outside the shop, he shook his head. He'd never visited the Greek quarters of the city, although he was sure he'd get along there well enough - it was too out of the way for most of his outings. "Never been there. I know v'here ee't ee's located, though. And I'm sure v'e can find the address v'ee'th a lee'tle searching." He wondered, again, who this Persy was, and what good it would do to find out where Abbot lived or who he knew.
Eh. He'd learned not to question the ways of gods too much. He should just be thankful they'd gotten the lucky end of the draw when it came to the three assignments.
"Da, sounds fine to me," he added, nodding his head off to the street they were to take. They'd have to walk quickly, maybe even jog, and at least that would warm him up.

Jubs filtered out of the group as well, joining up with the two kids. Once Koa showed him where the address, he knew where they were going. "I know where that is, at least roughly." Growing up on the streets, you got to know your way around.
He couldn't believe how casually they were talking about going to bother Miss Persy. Had they not heard any of the stories? As excited as he was to see her, he knew she wasn't going to be happy about them showing up at her house. "Just be nice when you talk to her. She can get angry. Really angry."

Koa nodded, glad that his companions were proving to be competent thus far. He had a better idea of Jubs' abilities than he did of this strange kid - Vale, Anubis had called him. Well, he'd fix that later, along the way.
"You take the lead, but don't go too fast for us," he told Jubs. To Vale, "you keep an eye out, make sure we don't get surprised. I'll take the rear and cover us from that end." And thus not have to walk quite so fast. Though it'd mean he wouldn't be the one to set the pace. Oh well, if they didn't go as he liked, he could fall back on his bully- ah, leadership skills to keep things rolling.
Jubs' comment made the pig boy laugh. "Not as angry as my mom after I've snuck out all night, I'll bet you!" Noticing the boy did honestly look uncomfortable with the idea, Koa's grin took on a wicked gleam. "What, are you scared of her or something? Of a girl?"

Well, that'd be easy. With his heightened hearing and night-vision additions, he'd make sure it was very difficult for anybody to sneak up on them. Even shadows couldn't conceal people from his eyes.
"Easy enough," he answered, looking at his two companions curiously. "So who ee's th'ees Persy v'oman, anyv'ay?" He could understand Jubs' discomfort, for sure.
Women could be horrifying. First the look, and then the speaking - eck. His mother always did that to his father and him when they broke something or messed up.
Ah. He could tell by Koa's grin the boy still hadn't learned the meaning of true fear. Poor soul.

Nodding, Jubs set out at the front. He wanted to set a fast pace, but he knew the two kids wouldn't make it for long. So he settled for a quick walk instead, which to him was agonizingly slow.
On the subject of Persy, he wasn't ashamed to admit it. "Yeah, I'm scared of her. Some of the gods are scared of her. She's the one in charge of the Game, though I don't know what all she does."

Koa mulled that new bit of information over. The initial mental image he'd had of a kindly, slightly absent-minded elderly woman was quickly replaced with something a bit more along the lines of Anubis - someone powerful, a judge and ruler. Very tall, with the grace and stature of a tree herself, a queen amongst her flora. Still, Koa was too cocky to worry much about watching his step.
"That makes sense, the dark guy sending us after this head-honcho lady." Koa folded his arms up behind his head as they trotted along after Jubs, borderline jogging to keep up. "Though if she's in charge, why haven't we all seen her? Or is she like some kind of president type, not mingling with the likes of us?"

Now this was better. He could easily keep up with his loping stride, and it helped warm him up. Even as they jogged and talked, he made sure to keep watch - ears swiveling in every direction to catch the noises of people who might be trying to follow them.
He frowned thoughtfully, hands still buried in his pockets.
"Who knows? These gods and judges seem very reserved from ee'nterfering v'ee'th the Game. I had to search out that v'oman goddess, and I thee'nk I ended up surprising her." He was still contrite over that incident. She seemed like a nice lady. "But I thee'nk they do ee't out of respect for the rules of the Game. Neutrality. Ee'magine ee'f one of the judges became friends v'ee'th a Player."
He could understand that. It'd make things biased, and who knows what gods could do to each other if their agreed-upon rules were broken. The whole thing seemed very fragile, actually. Everything was balanced on a wire when it came to deities.

He shrugged as best he could while running. "I don't know. You don't need to see her unless you have some information you have or want to trade. It's that other guy that meets with new players."
Jubs was silent for awhile, thinking of what Vale said. They took a few turns, going down a couple alleys to avoid places where groups of people tended to gather. Eventually he slowed down, and started examining the areas around them more closely.
"Alright, we're getting close. Watch out for anyone suspicious." Other than themselves, of course.

Koa looked up at the buildings around them with scrutiny. This didn't look like the kind of place to find a goddess. Things were too plain, too ordinary.
Making the three of them stick out like sore thumbs.
Despite his take-charge attitude, Koa really hadn't been doing much look-out at the back, relying more on Vale for that kind of support as he just followed along for the ride. But he wasn't being lazy, he told himself, he was pacing himself, to make sure he had resources ready for if anything bad actually happened. Like most young boys, Koa fancied himself as the one who'd come to the rescue when his teammates got into a pickle.
Thinking about it, what Vale said made sense. Though it was an interesting idea, trying to get on the judge's good side. Something Koa filed away for later.
"It looks like she should be in that building over there," Koa said, gesturing to an apartment complex a couple buildings down from them.
He grinned to himself. This was sure easy.

He was pretty impressed; the Greek quarter was well taken care of compared to other neighborhoods that he had visited. He was glad it was nighttime, and few people were out at this hour - from the looks of things, the people would have been thronging in the streets had it been daylight. His own block was rather quiet, day or night, so he never ran into much trouble there as a Godling. Crowds, for some reason, didn't appreciate genetic mutants in their midst.
Peering at the apartment complex, he nodded in agreement. There it was, as said. But even with the seemingly near-empty streets and the apartments right there, he still felt uneasy. Perhaps he was just too used to dealing with Murphy's Law every time something good happened his way. Perhaps he was just paranoid. Perhaps he was just too tired from work that day and wished he could get back to bed.
Even with the uneasiness that came from eyeing the building, he still felt in good spirits - it was rare that he had the opportunity to work with others his age. Maybe he should get out more often.
"So who ee's the poor fool who gets to ring the doorbell?" he wondered out loud. Whoever was stuck with the task of knocking on that door was to be faced with the wrathful woman of the Game, this Persy. He definitely didn't envy them.

Jubs wasn't eager to go bother Persy either. And since Koa seemed so nonchalant about it, he seemed like a perfect candidate to volunteer. "Koa, why don't you go knock on the door? Vale and I can keep watch while you do. I'll make sure it's safe." Without waiting for a response, he jumped into the air, gliding up to the top of the building they were next to.
Crouched on the corner of the roof, he had a good view of the street in both directions. After carefully looking around, there wasn't anyone he could see. Leaning over the edge, he gave a thumbs up to Vale and Koa below.

"What, you guys both chicken?" Koa snickered. Unlike the other two, he hadn't the least fear, not having the pleasure of knowing Persy or her reputation. He couldn't help but rub the moment in a bit more. "She's just a girl. What's she gonna do, nag us to death?"
Striking a confident pose, he watched Jubs flee with a hint of envy. Man, that was so cool. Sure wish he could do that...
Shifting his calabash into his left hand and wishing, not for the first time, that he'd thought to bring his backpack to carry the stupid thing, Koa raised his fist and knocked.
The piglet was entering the lion's den.

Des roused himself from his uneasy slumber in the easy chair and looked over at Persy. It still seemed odd that she would pick, of all places, his couch to crouch and be sick for a while. But he didn't mind having her. It gave him someone to cook for, if nothing else.
He heard the tapping sound again - someone was knocking on the door. He got up and approached it cautiously - who could be calling at this time of night? He peered through the peephole and saw that it was a kid. Nothing threatening there. He opened the door.
"Wasn't Halloween a few months ago?" he asked.
