5. Hoshi no Koe (Voices of a Distant Star)

4. Pale Cocoon

3. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai

2. Witch Hunter Robin

1. Haibane Renmei

Yeah, I like a lot of the much more subdued animes. Funny is all right every once in a while, but I really like it when I have to actually think. So, yeah.

I have noticed that .hack//SIGN and Trigun fail to appear on your list. This is very odd considering the title of this thread.

Really now? No, I don't think so at all. I've never even watched .Hack in any sense, and while Trigun was decent, it wasn't worthy of making my personal top five. Feel free to post your list; it probably won't be anything like mine.

To be honest I don't think I have seen any of the ones you listed. But I think .hack//SIGN will remain my number one, and Trigun my number two, followed by things like Full Metal Alchemist and....other ones I can't think of right now.

Eww, FMA. You've seen my rant on that one, I believe. Or maybe not... Anyway, that's not one of my favorites. The American voice acting just really turned me off, and I have had no desire since to watch the rest of it. Too long to be bothered.

Anyway, yeah. My choices (with the exception of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni) are not for those who want an action-oriented anime. They're more focused on story and psychological... stuff. Of course, HnNKn, you get to watch the same person die over... and over... and over... it's quite fun, really. Though it's so sad, because she tries so hard to break out of the pattern fate has set her in...

Well...Full Metal Alchemist...is not that long...only like what 24 episodes? i don't really remember though. The show is very funny, but also has a serious side, and some sad parts. Very good anime. now english voice acting.....

ENGLISH VOICE ACTING IS THE WORST ******** CRAP I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!!! HOW CAN YOU EVEN JUDGE ANY ANIME WHEN YOU HAVE WATCHED IT WITH THAT CRAP!!!!!!!

yeah...never watch anime with english voice acting. it's not worth it.

BTW...if this is true you would probably like .hack//SIGN. It is not a funny anime, and requires a lot of thought to really understand. Most people don't like it that much, but most people don't get it either. It is my favorite for a reason.
.hack//SIGN being the exception I usually prefer anime that combines humor with an intense story. Most people only get the humor, but I really can't say the anime would be that great with just the humor. This is why Trigun is my second favorite. Most people I know don't get Trigun that well either. (except when they point out the few episodes with the rediculous villains...that is a little annoying...though the episode is still decent if you can get past that. lol)

I have trouble figuring out where exactly, .hack starts. Too many different ones... e.e It's always looked interesting, though.

Would I be correct in guessing that SIGN is the first?

And the answer is that sometimes, the story is good enough that it can overcome even the worst of voice acting. Haibane pulled it off. WHR pulled it off. I just didn't think FMA had a story wonderful enough to show through the voices, and I've got a number of other things I'd rather watch (or, re-watch, as I've seen Haibane like five times...).

.hack//SIGN is actually a prequel or introductory to The World and the story. I haven't seen anything else from the series and have failed to get into the games lol.
English voice acting is a no for me no matter what...I just can't stand it. FMA can be a little bit childish if you look at it the wrong way, but it is very good. Especially Hughes. lol. Really though they just do a very good job with all the side characters.

Ew, english dub. The only thing I can bear in English is Ghost In The Shell, because her Japanese voice actor is so irritating I want to rip my eyes out.
-----------------------------
My top five animes (I hope movies count...):
1. A Kite
2. X //1999
3. Cowboy BeBop
3. Tokyo Babylon
4. Lodoss War
5. El Hazard
5. Trigun.

Clearly I've got a few kinks to work out, but all and all those're what I'm into at the moment.
