First off, this will be a high-level game and not very long at all. Each character will start off at level 18 and have magic items of my choice. On a related note, since it would take too long otherwise (and Kami knows I don't have much patience), character creation will proceed thusly: PM me the character you want, and I will make it, though players will have to give me a basic idea of exactly what quirks and/or flaws they want and/or don't want.

Second, and one of the more important points, there will be some technology and terms that do not normally exist; if you want a reason as to why they exist it would be wise to read The Spellslingers Guide To Wurld Domination; specifically, the section on the Circle Of Sequestered Magic (COSM), located in Chapter 6: Magical Academies And Organizations. It will not tell you outright, however; rather, it will give you enough information to guess.

Please direct any and all questions to this topic, so I don't get confused.

I made a gnome Thief/Illusionist a few weeks ago that I'm dying to play. It would be no problem to crank it up to level 18.

Whichever. Our house is highly cluttered right now but I try to get a little bit cleaned every day.

Occasionally I hang out at the mall while Lura's working but if I don't go with her then I don't have access to a vehicle until she gets home.

I'm going to make Manny (the Ogre gourmand) as the party's tank but need to decide between Barbarian and Fighter.

Half-Ogres can reach unlimited levels in either class so starting at level 18 is no handicap.

I'd prefer to play him as a barb simply because I've always wanted to play a barb but they are nearly impossible to work into a party because until level 6 a barb will not associate with a magic-user and then only if absolutely necessary. Starting at level 18 gets me past that problem but even that level barbs generally won't adventure with magic-users even though they won't kill them on sight.

Therein also lies the trouble with running a barbarian in this game at all since we are working for the Circle of Sequestered Magics and everyone else in the party is a spell-slinger of some sort.

HackMaster PHB p44
Barbarians in general detest magic and those who use it. They will, at low levels of experience, refuse to employ any sort of magic item if they recognize it as such. They will often seek to destroy magic items, and if successful they receive an experience-point award as if they possessed the destroyed items. While magic-users will be shunned initially, and always viewed with suspicion, cleric spells of the type used by shamans and witch doctors are not so viewed, though high level cleric spells are still suspect.

Since Manny is well-educated (he is a gourmet chef, after all) I could see that he would have learned to mostly give up his superstitious suspicion of all things magical and would thus be alright in this party but I'd like to gather other people's opinions... especially those of non-HackMaster players.

How about a durellen sword in the on-hand and a battleaxe in the off?

durellen (GaG p84): 3lb Lg Hacking Spd 2 - 2d6/2d5/2d5/2d4/2d4/2d3
battleaxe (GaG p76): 7lb Md Hacking Spd 2 - 2d4

Also, the frying pan on p80 has been errataed as follows:
4lb Sm Crushing Spd 1 - 1d6/1d4+1/1d4/1d4-1/1d4-2/1

I could persoally see it to be not too much of an issue to be Barbarian. I am not a magicuser specifically. I am a ranger honest, and actually so is Bob. Um I will say that the Barbarian is going to be no big fan of any magic user though that could cause problems, in just the fact of taking the quest.

At the level we're playing at Rangers can cast magic-user and druid spells which is why I said that the rest of the party are spell-slingers of some sort.

Personally, me and Alasar bring up the possible theory of: What if the party wasn't a party until well inside the starting crypt? Kind of like being forced into an alliance of sorts, let's say for their own survival. And then you end up being a permanent party for some reason or other. We can play it by ear.
