do you think it is a male or a female? that story is the third body paragraph in my essay and I thought it was a girl
but others think it was a boy
for those who have read the story, do you think the main character who murders the old man was a man or a woman?
please let me know ;D

It's been so long since I've read anything by Poe...He creeps me out.
Is this the story about the old man with the caterac in his eye? If it is, then I definitely assumed that a man murdered him.
That really is a creepy story.

That really is a creepy story. yah, see I thought that the main character was a female because the narrator explains that they love the man at the beginning I love Poe's work. it is nicely written. the pit and the pendulum is the best one >3

I don't remember everything, but I remember the story saying that the murderer loved the old man, but he just could stand his eye so he felt he had to kill him. So, it was more like he cared for the old man like a father, but after that story I remember being a little sick. And to think he was going to get away with it, unless he confessed himself.

But I when I first read the story in 8th grade a recording of it was on as well and a man was reciting it. Very well I must say...he definitely portrayed a man becoming more and more mad.

i always assumed it was a man. in poe's time, having "loved" a man didn't have to mean it was a romantic love. it was sometimes meant as a great respect and adoration for someone, much like someone would have for a role model or father figure. that's an interesting theory, though. you should research it.

I have to agree that my first impression was a man. This may be due to a movie I saw. A man played a the narrator just as a man did in the recording Suki heard.
