Lunch Break

Players Alex Falcone, Brad Lee (Chrystali) & We`rika (Slanndalous)
Setting & Time Diner, around noon

---

"Checking yer watch every second isn't gonna make time go by any faster..."

We`rika looked up at his co-worker and glared, his long ears falling against his skull in instinctual moodiness. It didn't phase the man though, in fact it only encouraged him and the others to laugh as they were so used to his little tantrums every day right before lunch. It was an easy nerve to exploit.

The Huichol narrowed his eyes and looked again at his watch. His ears perked up and a smile split his face in a toothy grin. "Well yer bitchin' made i' fly righ' by, eh?" He patted the man on the back and very careful scrambled off the catwalk and down. Finally ******** time for a break! There were some bosomy loose hotties he needed to tip at a local diner across the street from his construction site. not the best food, but cheap and there was plenty to look at.

After being all but hit by a car as he jay walked across the street in a mindless scramble to food, he took a seat at the diner counter, already eye humping a few girls around him.

And there it was. A familiar a**. Dark hair, but that didn't help. He leaned in to take a better look, but was wary. He didn't want to run into anything stank from the past. But... only way to find out... A free hand pinched the nice buxom a**, waiting for a strange slap on the face... or, well, a familiar slap in the face.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 06, 2008 12:09 am

Unfortunately for We`rika, the owner to the aforementioned a** wasn't a slapper. Oh no, she was a slugger, and chose to keep obvious physical violence to a minimum. Instead, she settled for not-so-obvious violence, a scarred hand snaking down rapidly to the offending appendage on her posterior, seizing a finger and twisting, yanking it back.

Alex Falcone turned her head, burning eyes looking down into the familiar and very likely unhappy face of someone she knew. Someone who probably wouldn't have grabbed her butt, had he recognized her with her hair down. She turned her fitted cargo-clad goods so she could regard her attacker, her olive green sleeveless tee making her eyes even more vibrant in their righteous fury. The fiesty Italian sneered, "Why hello We`rika, I didn't think you'd be so enthusiastic to see me again."

"Why not? You're so full of charm, as always, little sister." It was a damn good thing he'd made it before the light had turned red, or these two would have probably been in a brawl that looked like a death match and...something inappropriate for eyes under eighteen. Brad, dressed in a simple black tank top and blue jeans, his hard hat under his dirt smeared arm, put his free hand on his sister's shoulder. "Easy girl, it's just lunch. Unless you're gonna replace this poor guy, let him go."

The tall man pursed his lips, nodding a little as the shorter (but far more ornery) woman released the shaman, turning his indigo gaze upon him. Running a hand through his mussed hair, he apologized, "I'd say excuse her, but if you've already met, you'd know it's a waste of time." Brad flinched a little as a well placed swing connected with his bicep.

That typical smug little smirk of his melted away cleanly, his long ears stapled to his skull in hurt as he snarled and whined like a dog. He began to lean with his twisted fingers in a pitiful attempt to quell the twinges of pain.

“Is you! God, ya lil bi—owwwah!” The heavy weight of his a** grabbing was beginning to sink in, so was the regret. Of all people! Pulling his fingers free of her grip, he waggled them cautiously; glad to feel the blood rushing back to them. “Dun pretend ya didn’ like i’…” The Huichol snubbed his ex-babysitter and asked for a tuna fish sandwich and a water.

Hearing another snarky voice beside his own, We`rika leaned behind Alex. His eyes narrowed. Why was everyone taller than him? Even the Italian midget beside him could even rival his height. Patting Alex on the head, he smiled a big obnoxious smile. “N’aw, yer jes an ole ball and chain ain’ ya?” Consecutively hopping one seat behind him to avoid the little woman’s sharp claws… for now.

“Soo…” We`rika circled the rim of his water glass with his finger, smacking flakes of concrete from his shirt. “… Is tha’ hard ha’ jes a look or do ya ge’ yer hands dirty?” The subject change wasn’t only to have Alex stop glaring at him like that, but he was curious to find what this brother really did. He looked too upper-middle class to get his hands messy.

"Don't flatter yourself!" came the immediate snapped reply. Alex wasn't one to dislike people, but that damn shaman was more trouble than he was worth! The woman rolled her eyes and waved a dismissive hand at We`rika's remark, not in the least bit rankled. He'd like that too much.

Brad, on the other hand, had a partial smile on his face after watching the exchange, chuckling as a question was directed at him. "I get my hands dirty as work calls for it," he shrugged, eyeing the man, "but I'm generally not in the field of construction in the physical aspect." He probably made that sound more confusing than it needed to be, but he was keeping his attention on maintaining the peace more than being good company. The former was far more important when his explosive sister and a man like the one trying to get under her skin were involved. Not many were that brave - or stupid - to try.

The woman in questions snorted indignantly, "The dirtiest you get your hands is when eating, B, don't lie." Before he could recoup and reply, she continued on, "Are we gonna get a seat or just stare at We`rika here? 'cause I'll lose my appetite if we're gonna just stand here." She stuck her tongue out at the shaman; despite all his annoyances, she didn't really hate the guy. It was just fun to piss him off.

With a humoring smile, Brad intoned to the one named 'We`rika,' "Sorry, guess we have to eat now or something."

He was rewarded with a slap to his shoulder. "Would you rather eat with him?"

"This was your idea," Brad snapped back. There was no questioning the two and their relationship.

We`rika gaped like a fish, an angry fish. Alex knew how to bush is buttons so easily. That menstruating b***h! The Huichol grabbed his pecs and shook them like any proper hooker. "Ya know ya wan' these puppies!" He couldn't stand for being called ugly. It was illegal and intolerable.

"..... Speaking of puppies..." He took his plate and water in either hand and wrapped a heavy arm around Alex, using that extra height of his to look down her shirt; Brad was a little too tall to be used as a stand. ".... I never really go' ta thank ya properly fer bringin' tha' shi' machine into my apartmen' so... why dun we grab ourselves a booth and le' ya take care of th'bill, eh? Goood..." Not bothering to listen to her complaints or abuse, the shaman pushed her to an available booth, making sure to trap her in as he set beside her. "There....!" He smiled from ear to ear at Alex, her anger feeding his obnoxious and terrible behavior, before looking for Brad.

"So if yer no' elbow deep in cemen' all day, wha' do ya do consruc...tive...y?" Well that was a challenge. He checked his watch to check his time, leaning over the table to see if any one had started filing back to the site across the street.

((I'm such a godmoder XD Ahaha D< ))

He was rewarded with a sneer from the woman, who merely suffered the indignity that We`rika oh so loved to lavish upon her. "You could have said no, I was gonna take him--!" she paused long enough to be shoved into the booth, pressing her back against the side panel so she could face the offending man, "--but you, sir, are a sucker for all types of puppies." She smirked at him, awaiting his rebuttle.

Brad just shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck as he watched the two. "Ah, so this is the one that kept the shepard?" he asked, sliding into the booth across from them. To the question posed, he put the hat next to him on the booth, cracking his knuckles unconsciously. "I'm an architect. They pull me on site when they don't want to pay for outside help." He shrugged, propping his arms up on the back of the booth to get comfortable, "You should know how stingy they are about funds." The man offered a half-cocked smile, shrugging.

"Ya sure you can pay for lunch with your oh so awful wages, B?" the woman piped up, crinkling her nose at him.

"I said I'd pay if you actually came this far," he shot back.

"Good, looks like you're paying for three!" Alex gave a smug smile, triumphant that she had both nailed her brother into paying AND brushed We`rika off for taking responsibility for the dog named Sprinkles.

The man grunted. "Seems that way." Lifting his dark brows at the shaman, he moved an arm off the booth and extended it to We`rika. "Name is Brad." He briefly shot Alex a dirty look. "We`rika, is it? Looks like I got two dates for lunch. Not bad."

Supporting his chin with a clawed hand, he leered back at Alex with a humorless smile and a witchy, mocking laugh. "I tried ta say no, bu' friggin' Sevilin! was cryin' when I tried ta throw i' away... " We`rika sighed and slumped further in the booth til his head was the only thing visible. "So yay now I ge' ta feed another mouth..." Narrowed eyes fell from Alex and and onto Brad.

But his lifeless expression and his long ears perked up as did his posture at the man's reply. "Really?" We`rika leaned over the table to listen to Brad. He always thought being an architect would be an incredible job, but with no GED or college diploma he was going no where for a long time. The Huichol offered Alex's brother his own toothy smile, but as an architect he was pretty sure Brad didn't know much about living from paycheck to paycheck.

Looking back at Alex, We`rika squealed victoriously with her. "I'mma jes glad I ain' related ta her... I'd prolly have had my balls cu' off pretty early..." We`rika made sure to scoot over an arms distance and, dusting off his hand, grabbed Brad's hand. "I'mma hafta borrow ya fer my lunch breaks from now on..."

"At least if we were related, I wouldn't have to worry about my 'assets' being manhandled. Or would I?" Alex regarded We`rika with distaste, although her expression suggested she was just playing around now rather than going in for the kill. Her brother had a somewhat calming effect on her.

Brad lofted his dark brows, indigo eyes fixed on We`rika while giving a firm shake. "Yeah, I don't mind. The diner is good and has decent prices." He gave a little shrug, shifting his attention briefly to his sister. "I'm actually glad I'm not in your shoes, at least she forgives me since we're related." He offered a smile between a grin and a smirk, the latter aimed at his glaring younger sister. As the waitress returned, he looked up to her, all smiles as he placed his order. "Tri tip sandwich please, easy on the au jous. Just water to drink. Oh right, fries and a baked potato as the sides."

Alex, for all her sulking outward appearance, was somewhat bemused by the two and their interactions. Usually, her brother was quite dry and aloof, but it seemed having previous knowledge of the shaman warmed him up...just a little. "What he's having," she quipped, "with french onion soup instead of the sides. Dr. Pepper to drink." She continued to watch with a very faint smirk.

"By the way, this is all on one tab," Brad added, grinning at We`rika.

Without even missing a beat, We`rika turned to Alex to reply as if they had been discussing the weather. "Yeah ya would have..." Eyebrows lifted, the Huichol smiled sweetly; a smile specifically constructed to rub anyone and everyone raw. He would have told her about his cousin, but it didn't seem the time and place. And technically he hadn't known he had a cousin prior and plus his cousin was a whoreface so... there was no stopping it.

Satisfied, We`rika turned back to the menu on the table, happy to see Brad succumbing to his willpower and empty wallet. "Whatever she loooves me..." Placing a hand around Alex's shoulder, he rubbed his head affectionately against her, making sure his sweat-soaked hair found as much skin as it could sully.

Watching the two order, his eyes darted to Brad and his generous offering to pay for it all. He looked down at his pitiful tuna fish sandwich he had every day here and looked up at the waiter and back at the menu and back at his tuna fish before pushing the plate away with one finger like a little kid. ".... Can I get a burger, rare with fries and a water..." We`rika's long ears perked up at his newfound freedom and selection, even if it was only for today.

"Sooo... How long have ya been architect... ing?" He felt bad for picking it back up again, but he was really curious.

The Italian woman had enough grace to allow the waitress to be out of sight before she shot her hand out and smacked the shaman upside the head. "THERE. That's about what ya did to me, damnit all..." She snapped We`rika's napkin while placing her own well out of reach, using his to wipe at her dark skin with a nasty glare. He wouldn't catch her off guard this time! Her legs were coiled beneath the seat, ready to spring and REALLY make a scene if the man wanted to up the anty.

"Children!" Brad sighed and smiled a little. There weren't many that made his sister so defensive, but then again, she hadn't babysat before this man's child. She'd only had glowing things to say about the charge in question (she didn't say much outside the fact that she wanted one...which disturbed him a little), so it was obvious to him she was taking it hard, not being able to see this 'Sevilin' again. "Play nice. You can swing at each other outside, but let's not add property damage to the bill. Please."

To the question in his direction, he offered another faint smile, thinking. "It's been--"

"Ten years." The woman had shifted her glare to her brother, and it was not at all warmer. In fact, it looked...much darker.

Brad clenched his jaw for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, ten...eleven-ish years. I've been working for this firm for about seven, but I still do outside commissions." He decided not to add the fact that he loathed doing outside commissions, if not soley because each person thought THEY were the architect when they truly didn't know the building art from a child's playhouse. Sometimes it was more disheartening than it was worth.

Keeping to the light conversation (and avoiding Alex's evil eye upon both of them), he inquired, "How about you? How long have you been in this gig?"

"Owwah!" His ears fell against his shoulders as he whined halfheartedly, though Alex probably had smacked more sweat onto her hand than from his head with that blow. "She took my napkin... " Snuffing, he turned his attention back to Brad with an immature pout clinging to his lips. He discreetly watched the two have a spat of their own, though Brad seemed the only mature adult at the table as he let the shadow slide under the table.

With a dip in the conversation, We`rika leaned forward to see if work had resumed. And of course it had. ********. Oh well, he busted his a** for that job they could go suck it if he was late one day. He almost missed Brad's question as he peered out the window. The shaman inclined his head to Brad, ears perking up in attention even if his brown eyes were lazy. "Mmm no' so long... I'vea been workin' construction for only liiike ..... almos' two years. I was kinda... indisposed in my life until then... bu' I like i'. I' keeps me in shape and is no' bad money... Though I hope I won' be doin' i' for th'res' of my life..." We`rika stuck out his tongue in distaste at the thought of going nowhere in his life.

Seeing the waitress coming back over, he pulled his elbows off the table and watched her pass the plates around. When his nice fresh warm hamburger was laid in front of him, his ears wiggled in excitement. Gah this would be so exciting... and sad that this was the pinnacle of his day so far. He glanced around at what everyone else got, though he kept his gazes short and quick with Alex's food just in case before stuffing his face.

Alex crinkled her nose as she watched We`rika eat, picking up a piece of her fine cut meat and tossing it quickly onto the shaman's plate. "Truce," she grunted, before beginning her own feast with glee. She was definitely a carnivore.

The older man nodded a little, giving a brief smile to the waitress before turning his attention back to his co-worker. Brad hadn't seen ears quite like his before, and his accent was thick but not so much he couldn't understand. He chuckled a little, inclining his head, "Making a living out of construction isn't usually something people can or want to do. It's a hazard. Y'don't see older people working it, that's for damn sure." He took a cursory bite of his food, lofting his brows in silent approval before glancing up at the two.

"How is work going, with a kid 'n all?" he asked politely. It seemed only natural to inquire about the child that the two had met over.

We`rika could feel the girl's little beady eyes on him and he glanced her way suspiciously. He watched her pick at her sandwich and almost flinched away when she came close to him, dropping the piece of meat onto his plate.

At her words, the Huichol's eyes narrowed and his bottom lip stuck out in consideration. "Perhaps..." Was the only thing he said before picking up the piece of meat and inhaling it. Still watching Alex, he chewed the gift warily and thoroughly before moving back to his own meal. He took another inedible size of his burger and began the five minute task of munching and turning and munching some more until it was small enough to swallow. He nodded to Brad as he listened, making an audible groan when he was asked a question. Especially that question. His ears perked and fell as his mood fluctuated on the matter.

"Wuu..." He couldn't even form a coherent word. He raised a hand in pending as he grappled with the meal in his mouth. He shoved most of it to one side, giving him big chipmunk cheeks. "I' could be better.... I work from 5am til 5pm on the weekdays cause I need the hours, I'lla pick up extra if they have any on Saturday... aaannd then Sunday is kinda us time... No' a lo' of i', bu' wha' can ya do, I guess..." We`rika felt unending guilt for Sevilin's isolation, but he didn't know how to help it. He needed the money badly.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 16, 2008 11:46 am

Brad watched the man curiously as he ate his tri tip, raising a dark brow much as his sister often did. After chewing thoughtfully for a moment (and ignoring Alex's snickers over We`rika's chipmunk cheeks), he nodded, stating, "It's not easy to be a single father, especially with those shisty hours. Ally here is actually watching my girl while I'm working for the next few weeks--"

"I'd do the same for someone ELSE if he'd LET ME--"

"--and it sucks being away," he concluded, still ignoring his teasing sister. He took another bite, chewing slowly and methodically before he gave a curt nod, as though agreeing with some unspoken claim. "I don't hold much sway in the employee affairs apartment," Brad turned his eyes out the window while thinking out loud, "but I'll try to make mention that you have a boy. They have this...some sort of compensation act for guys with kids, y'know, they pay a certain amount for daycare and stuff. They have to if they're working you that hard." Indigo eyes returned to his meal, continuing to eat as if he'd said nothing at all. Distracted didn't quite cover his antics while thinking of his daughter.

Alex glanced over at We`rika, her expression decidedly less teasing and playful. In fact, it could have almost passed for concerned. "I take the affairs of my niece very seriously. I have to go pick her up from a tour at the local school soon. I'd do just about anythin' for those who are left behind, and not by choice." She glanced over to Brad, who would not meet her gaze, before returning to her own meal.

"Well if YOU weren' such a bad influence on SEV'LIN--" We`rika stopped himself and just stuck his tongue out at Alex, turning his attention back to poor Brad. The shaman was really the biggest and baddest influence on his ward, but he never added to his own burden unlike sooome!! One of these days Sprinkles was going to have an accident. And then he'd buy Sevilin some nice loyal inexpensive fish.

He added a few more fries to his gaping maw and took a gulp of water to wash it all down. The Huichol was glad he wasn't the only single dad he ever met. It was comforting that there were others struggling, but happy to do so for a child. He listened to Brad attentively, though he fidgeted through his suggestion. We`rika was not a fan of handouts to help his bleeding heart. It was his mistakes and he wanted to pay for them himself. But that was selfish. It wasn't just him anymore. He had to think of Sevilin and if that meant swallowing his pride, he would. "Thanks.... that'd be grea'...."

The conversation hit another wall. Looking up, We`rika's lips curled over his long fangs slowly ready for attack. "N'aww yer jes a big ol maid aren' ya?" He could barely contain his manly squeal as he dug one more burn into Alex. But with the look on her face, We`rika's ears fell and he grabbed his plate, getting up and scooting Brad over. "I feel safer over here..."
