Dibs on this thread for Faun and Ruby. And...Whatnot. I'll edit this with a post or Ruby can make the first post. Whichever. Bayard hugged himself tightly, trying to fight off the bitter cold of the new year as he made his way inside. The cottage he found himself in was small but cozy, and, above all else, warm. This was, for the most part, caused by the large fireplace to the side of the room, even if it was slowly dwindling to an ember. “That simply won’t do,” he mumbled in a soft voice that carried a hint of an accent.
He glided across the room, his skirt brushing against the floor and kicking up a bit of dust, and knelt before the fireplace, his eyes searching for any firewood left nearby. Finding a single log, he lifted it from it’s place on the floor and placed it in the hearth, watching for a moment until the flames took and the log began to slowly burn. Bayard breathed out a sigh and relaxed a bit, allowing the warmth of the fire to melt away the frosty chill he still felt. “Well, now that getting warm is taken care of,” he said jokingly, “Where am I?”

"Trees, trees, and more trees." Kia muttered as he stumbled on the path. "And So much snow. I hate snow! How the hell was I talked into hiking again?" Kia was so angry. First he was conned into the hike and then he got split from the group and was now lost cold and hungry. "Could this get any worse?" He screamed in frustration right before tripping over an upturned root and falling face first into the snow. As he got up he noticed that it had started snowing again and it was slowly getting colder. Kia shivered. "I shouldn't have asked of course it got worse." Kia looked up at the sky and noticed that along with the falling snow there was smoke in the distance. Kia grinned. "where theres smoke theres fire and hopefully food." With this hopeful thought Kia picked up the pace toward what he hoped was food, warmth and shelter.

After taking a small trip around the cottage, Bayard found himself rather content and headed back to the fireplace, watching its flames dwindle back to embers once more. “I guess I’ll have to head back out in the cold and try to find some more wood. If I don’t…” He didn’t bother finishing his sentence, knowing well enough that it was just a waste of breath. With an exasperated sigh, Bayard lowered his head and turned for the door, enjoying the warmth for just a moment more before stepping out into the bitter cold.
A shivering hand wrapped it’s way about Bayard’s waist in an attempt to cover the section of his gown that was made of thin mesh. Long sleeves and skirts over boots meant nothing when your stomach was practically bare. But cold aside, he slowly made his way out into the trees that surrounded the cottage, hoping to come across with at least a couple of small logs that he could carry back and burn. Of course, what are the odds of finding wood in a forest? He laughed a bit to himself, rather than crying out from the cold.

"I'm so tired and is it my imagination or is it getting whiter...and colder." Kia was still trudging on the path which was getting harder to do as the snow continued. He stopped and looked up again and frowned as he noticed that the smoke was getting thinner meaning that the fire wherever it was, was dying and soon it would be gone and his beacon would be lost. "This just keeps getting better and better remind me to kill my friend if I make it back alive."
A few minutes of hiking later Kia really started to feel the fatigue catching up with him but his hopes rose when he noticed that the snow covered trees were starting to thin hinting at a clearing and perhaps the spot that the fire had been. Kia broke through the tree line and saw the cottage and the man in front of it before using the last of his strength to take a few more steps toward the man and call out to him before it was all to much and his body gave out and slumped to the ground as everything went black.

The sound of snow crunching caused Bayard to turn and glance out towards the forest. He sucked in a gasp of frigid air and ran as fast as he could towards the fallen man. “Are you okay? Can you hear me?” Getting no response, he did the only logical thing he could think of. He mustered up all the strength in his thin limbs and lifted the man into his arms, dashing towards the cabin as soon as he had a good hold. Bayard practically kicked in the door as he made his way in, swishing quickly to the couch that sat before the fireplace and laying the man there. “s**t… It’s still pretty cold in here. There’s got to be something to put on him…” He worriedly dashed through the room, trying to remember where it was he had seen a box of old clothing a few minutes earlier.
“Aha!” He caught sight of the box and ran to it, pulling from it a couple of shawls and a long skirt. Clothing in hand, he dashed back to the unconscious man on the couch and laid them over him as a makeshift blanket. Knowing that there wasn’t too much more he could do, Bayard knelt next to the couch, resting his head on the cushions and waiting for his new friend to wake. Unfortunately, he hadn't realized how long he had been wandering earlier, and soon began to drift into slumber.

biggrin ream sequence: The waves crashed gently on the beach of the island. Kia looked around in wonder at the scenery. 'Wasn't I just in the forest?' Kia shook his head he didn't care how he got here. Kia smiled as the water splashed over his feet. It was just how it was from his childhood. Peaceful with their little house nestled under the palm tree and the little dock just a short distance away. It was his family's island it was the place where he has some of his best memories and some of his worst. As he looked around he realized that this was one of his worst memories as he noticed himself as a little boy with tears in his eyes watching the back of his mother as she walked out into the ocean not once looking back even as he begged her to turn around. Sometimes looking back toward the house where his father was with an angry look on his face yelling. Both Kia and the ghost version of his youth turned back toward the sea as a great wave crashed over his mother and took her under and she never resurfaced. "NO!" : End dream sequence:
Kia's opened suddenly in panic as the last images of the dream faded. 'Why did I have to dream about that? I thought I had forgotten that day.' Kia sat up and looked around the room trying to remember how he got there and drew a blank. The room was small and he noticed a few doors that probably led to other rooms. the fire was glowing illuminating the room and casting many shadows. Kia also noticed a man sleeping in an uncomfortable position with his head on the couch that kia was on and the rest of his body on the floor. 'He must have brought me here.' Kia raised his hand and shook the mans shoulder in an effort to wake him and thank him properly.

Bayard blinked rapidly as he was forced out of his dreamless sleep by the shaking of his shoulder. Once his eyes focused, he realized that it was the man he had brought in earlier that was disrupting his slumber. “You’re awake,” he practically whispered, still sleepy. Instinctively, he reached a hand out and pressed it to the man’s cheek. “But you’re running a little bit of a fever. You need to rest. The fever shouldn’t last too long so long as the fire holds.” Bayard stumbled to his feet and moved closer to the fire, nudging at it with a poker held on a rack beside the fireplace. “I’m Bayard by the way.” He looked back to the other man curiously.

Kia felt his face flush as the mans hand brushed his cheek. ' I don't feel like i have a fever.' Kia watched as the man poked the fire and gave his name. 'Bayard...it suits him.' Kia swallowed trying to wet his dry throat and rasped out "My names Kia, Kia Arashi. Thank you for your kindness." before laying back down as Bayard has suggested.

‘Kia…such a pretty name,’ Bayard mused. “It’s nothing. Just helping out someone in need.” He stood, placing the poker back where he had found it, and walked away from the fire over to the other side of the room. “I thought I saw a kitchen of some sort while I was looking around earlier. We both could probably use some food. Do you think you can eat?” He stepped over the the back of the couch and leaned over Kia.

Kia stared up into Bayard's red eyes and had to will himself not to blush at the close contact. he hadn't been this close to another person in along time, all his friends were people that liked personal space which suited him just fine normally. 'He asked me a question. Am I hungry? Can I eat?' Kia's stomach growled a little interrupting his thoughts. Kia blushed a bit and nodded to Bayard while trying to sit up and leave the couch. As he tried to get up he noticed that the snow had melted onto his clothing leaving him damp since he wasn't close enough to the fire for them to dry. 'This is just great.' Kia got unsteadily to his feet and looked to Bayard since he didn't know his way around the cottage.

Bayard chuckled a bit. “No need to get up. I can get you some food. You relax.” A warm smile fell across his lips, illuminating his pale face. He stepped back around the couch and grasped Kia’s arm lightly, but he quickly pulled his hand back. “No wonder you have a fever! You’re soaked!” Without a word of explanation, Bayard pulled Kia’s scarf off and began unzipping his jacket. ((To anyone reading this, Bayard is wearing the clothing shown in his cert while Kia is wearing this.))

'What is he doing?' Kia's mind was going haywire as he felt his clothing being removed. The rational part of his mind knew that Bayard was just trying to keep him from getting sicker but the other part of his brain was balking at the extreme close contact. Kia shivered as more layers came off only now noticing how wet he really was. once he was down to his boxers which were only slightly damp he made his way to the fire to try and warm himself up. "Thank you again. Some food would be nice. But I can go with you if you like?"

"You can stay here and warm up. My dress is only a little damp at the hem, so I won't get sick if I walk around. You, on the other hand, will.” Bayard turned on his heels and glided across and out of the room, his tail swishing as if to say, “I win.” He left Kia alone for a few minutes before returning with two bowls of peaches on a tray. “All I could find were cans and no can opener.” He knelt down by the fire, setting the tray in front of Kia. “We’re lucky these had a pop top or we’d freeze and starve.”

Kia nodded in thanks as he took the food and started eating slowly. 'This is not good. If the snow doesn't let up soon we will starve unless we find a way to open the other cans. There must be something that we can use as a makeshift can opener.' Kia sighed softly at his thoughts as he looked out the window to see the snow still falling strong before his gaze returned to the fire and then to the bowl in his lap. "I wonder whose home this was?" Kia mused out loud only half aware that he said it rather then thought it.

Bayard picked at his food carelessly, his eyes fixated on the dwindling fire. "I'm not really sure. I guess it was some kind of summer cottage that abandoned for now. The clothes I found looked relatively old and there's no pictures anywhere..." He set his bowl down, the food practically untouched. Soundlessly he rose and stepped around Kia tot eh door. “I’ll be right back. I’m going to try and get some firewood so that we can keep this place heated.” Sucking in a deep breath of warm air, he opened the door and quickly rushed out, trying not to let the heat out.
Once he was outside, Bayard shook his head rapidly and looked around. How had he managed to get caught in this predicament to begin with? He closed his eyes and thought back to where he had been the day before, but he snapped his eyes open as soon as he remembered, the images playing back on the backs of his eyelids as vivid as it had been before. Shivering, he tried to block out the memory and stepped out towards the forest.
