 She had spent the day soaking up warmth until the last rays of the sinking sun had set beneath the horizon. The warmth would be enough to feed her flames throughout the night as she waited again as she had on other nights. Her proverbial prey would come by eventually, of that she had no doubt... Not if she had truly said as her brother said she did. The mare would have far too much spirit to not follow up on a friend.

As the days wore on she knew that Pyre had to be staying away because her daddy had to have said something to him. She hated it. It wasn't fair that she wasn't allowed to talk to him just because daddy didn't like him. Why didn't he trust her to make her own decisions? She was a big girl, relatively speaking, and she knew how to take care of herself.
She'd decided that evening that she was going to go looking. If nothing else maybe she could find some sign that Pyre had been around or maybe she'd even be lucky enough to run into him.

She had a feeling, deep down, that tonight would be the night that she had been waiting for. Something about the slight shift in the wind carried a hint along with the frigid scent of frost that would come as the night settled in. All she had to do now was continue waiting...
She stepped up to the edge of the lake, leaning down to crack the thin layer of ice with her hoof so that she could taking a sip. The water hit her stomach harder than she had initially expected, making her incredibly glad that her sip had been slow. The last thing she needed was to ache on a night like this when expecting company.

She signed as she wandered further away from home and found less and less signs of others being around. She really was going to have to have a few words with her daddy about this. She'd finally made a friend, someone to talk to that wasn't family, and he'd chased them off!
Unless ... well unless it was just that Pyre really did think she was a little girl and didn't want anything to do with her anymore.

Hearing movement in the woods not far from where she was she tilted her head, tail swishing slowly behind her. "Are you going to come out of there or am I going to have to come in after you? I've been waiting here for too long to play little games."

Her muscles tensed when she heard another voice not far from her. It sounded slightly familiar but she couldn't place where it was from. "I'm not hiding anywhere to have to come out of." She was just calmly walking down a little path.

"Then perhaps you should walk a little faster." She chuckled as she heard the voice that responded to her, glad that she was right in her thoughts of the night. "It's about time you made your way out here... Has your daddy been keeping you inside?"

She frowned as she wandered out of the tree line. Now she knew where that voice was from. That was Pyre's sister. She had another fire like name, Ember maybe.
"Daddy doesn't keep me inside. He's not that mean"

"Doesn't keep you inside... But he does keep you away, doesn't he?" Her brow lofted slightly as he mare came into her line of sight. "Something about that doesn't seem quite right... Of a father who isn't that mean. Just how mean is he?"

"He's not mean at all. I'd appreciate it if you'd stop talking about my daddy like you know him" She huffed slightly and glared at the other mare. Where did she get off talking like that about her daddy?

"So quick to defend." She grinned, fiery eyes gleaming in the darkness. "Does that mean you agree with what he said to Pyre when he tried to do the nice thing by walking you home after I'd spooked you?"

"He .... " She knew it! He had told Pyre something. "No. Whatever it was. He's just, worried, about me. He's protective..." That didn't mean he was a mean father. He'd always taken such good care of her and her siblings and their mother.

"Sure that did't have anything to do with you?" she knew she was getting herself into trouble but Pyre hadn't seemed to like this girl last time she'd seem them.

"Perhaps..." She couldn't help but smirk. Yes, she'd been right again. This little girl certainly had spunk. "... Then again, I was not the one responsible for the words that came from your father's mouth. Have you wondered why Pyre's not been around? There aren't even any traces of him left in the woods near here."
