"God, you smell repulsive."
"Sissy likes my flower-smell."
"Sissy's an idiot. Don't put that in your mouth."
"Yes Mumma!"
Natalia had shown a remarkable effort and gotten out of bed, finally out of the worst dregs of her depression. Now she was just pissed off at life and everything in it, including her sweet, loving little boy who adored her for no reason she could discern.
"Here," she said, pausing in front of a sidewalk vendor and giving Fiore a lollipop. "Eat it and shut up."
Fiore's eyes shone as though Nati had given him a diamond-encrusted puppy.
"Thank you, Mumma!"

Sometimes, when Mignon was especially bored, she would people watch. And thus, this was one of those days. Sipping at some hot chocolate, idly kicking her feet, she looked out at the crowd.
Good lord, that child had some wild hair. Mignon snorted at the little girl and her lollipop.

"Would you like some of my lolly, Mumma?"
"No. Shut up and eat it."
"Yes, Mumma."
Yanking her hand out of reach when Fiore tried to hold it, Natalia wandered some way ahead, tail dragging across the ground and ears flat against her skull. Fiore tried to keep up, but soon Natalia had outpaced him and disappeared.
"Mumma?" the boy called, clutching to his lollipop. "Mummy?"
But Natalia was gone.

Awwwww. Mignon sighed, tossing her hot chocolate into the trash, and walked over to the little girl.
"Hi there, sweetie." She said, leaning down. "Are you lost?"

"No," Fiore said, looking a little sad. "Mumma just left me for a bit. She'll come back."
He scuffed the ground with his shoe, the flower buds in his hair releasing a very potent whiff of lavender. He licked at his lollipop meditatively, then offered it to Mignon.
"Would you like some of my lolly?"

"No, thank you." And what a pretty little girl she was. Oh, there was that delightful little spiral of hate that started to flare up-
-And then it just got crushed inside of her. Huh?
"Are you wearing perfume?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Nope!" Fiore said, giggling. "It's my hair. My sissy Leo, she says I'm a moo-tant. Mumma says..."
Fiore hesitated, trailing off. Mumma was quite mean, moreso than usual. Hmm. Best not to get into it.
"Your hair is pretty," he said, switching topics. "My name's Fiore, what's yours?"

"Hmmm...." Mignon leaned over, giving a little sniff. "Huh. How lucky. You're always bound to smell nice."
"Thank you~" Ah, and Miggy now liked this Fiore. Cute enough to be dangerous, but smart enough to compliment and not lie. She twirled a bit of hair around one finger "And I'm Miggy."

Beaming brilliantly at the compliment, Fiore giggled again and nibbled at his lollipop.
"Miggy. Miggy, Miggy, Miggy! I like your name, it's fun!" he bubbled, the lavender scent wafting out again strongly. A few passerby afflicted with allergies started sneezing convulsively, though Fiore was totally ignorant to it. "Is you Mumma near by? Are you out makin' friends? Leo says I shouldn't be nice to people or make friends, but that's no fun at all. I like making friends!"

Mignon laughed, smiling at the little one. Awww.
"No, my Mumma's gone. I come out to play by myself. It is nice to make friends. I used to do that all the time when I was little."
And she had. She'd been bubbly and happy and hyper and all of that other stuff... Much like Fiore.

"No Mumma?" Fiore parroted, shocked. Oh, poor Miggy! She must be so lonely! Fiore very much wanted to give her a hug, but remembered that sometimes it wasn't polite to hug total strangers. Like that nice blind man at the bus stop the other day who thought Fiore had been trying to tackle and mug him.
"Well," he said, shaking off his momentary surprise. "Playing outside is still nice. Maybe you can find a new Mumma. And...and I'll be your friend! We're friends now, okay?"

Nope. No mumma. Not for over a year. Miggy patted Fiore's hair, smiling.
"Of course it's okay." Miggy said. "I like having friends, lots of them."

Viny hair rustling as if on its own, Fiore was hard put not to turn cartwheels and somersaults from pure joy. He'd made a friend! He, Fiore Pietro, had made a friend! Oh, the world was indeed made of sunshine and fairy dust.
"You c'n come over my house," he bubbled. "You c'n come over, and we'll play house, and...and have ice cream, and Pete-Sa, and CAKE. And Leo can come, and Mumma, and we'll all be friends, okay? It'll be fun!"
Unable to contain his sheer exuberance, Fiore leaped up and hugged Mignon.

Unable to hide her surprise, Miggy laughed, hugging the little happy child.
"Sure, sweetie. House, and tea parties, and ice cream." Miggy smiled, feeling happy and bubbly inside. Oh my. What was this child doing to her?

Thrilled that not only had Miggy not thrown him off or threatened to shove him into oncoming traffic, she was actually hugging back. Between this and his nice lolly Fiore was nearly fit to burst.
"And then you...you could come and sleep over," he said, ticking off the activities on his fingers. "We'll watch scary moobies, like that one Leo watched this one time? About this guy with a pincushion head? And it scared me, but I'm a big boy now so I c'n watch it and make sure YOU ain't scared when it's really....really really really scary."
