I know, a subject beat into the ground and no nearer a conclusion. There's an amazing amount of proof pointing both to Sephiroth's innocence and guilt. I hope I don't start a war here, but I wanted to hear everyone's ideas.

I think sephiorth was inocent, he was probaly being controled by his "mother" and did what he did

I think poor Sephy was being controlled by Jenova cause he was kinda good before......I guess......besides how he was very VERY cold ninja ....but still hot! heart cool

I think he got sorta freaked out when he found out about his past..then when he came into contact with jenova he was further influenced to do what he believed he had to do. ninja

Here's a site with good information on helping to make a decision. It can be found under "Story" and "Truth". This site leans on the facts produced by the game, with very little bits of theory.
Also, an extremely in-depth essay can be found here, and is so detail oriented that it even signifies deeper meanings from the Improv scene between Cloud and Aeris. Though not specifically oriented to Sephiroth's innocence or guild in content, it is very infomative and clever.
Here, at Clamity From the Skies, a wonderful Jenova site, there are several theories, but the writer's theory covers the idea that Jenova was the true villain.
Here, they touch upon the possibility of manipulation through the science of the game.

I dont think he was completely innocent, and i think he did everything he did of his own free will, not controlled by anything, but I dont think he was purely evil either. When you really think about it, wouldn't you be pretty worked up if you found out what he found out about himself?

Sephy is a innocent little baby. He was just confused about all the things that happened in the past...he also got a little caught up in the idea of ressurecting Jenova. You could say he was kinda possesed to do the things he did, poor sephy.
