Mia walked along the snowy field, sniffing for any remnants of flowers. Unfortunately, the snow had frozen all of them. Mia didn't like the winter that much because of this. The snow conquered everything colorful, and just left mostly a snowy white landscape in its wake.

She was looking for something to amuse herself, or at least to keep her busy and keep the loneliness away. She was longing for companionship. Unfortunately the snow couldn't offer her companionship. It just mirrored the cold loneliness she felt inside. She tried not to let it bother her though. She wanted to see a flower today, or at least more grass. She bent down and dug into the cold snow with her nose. The cold woke her up and she stood straight back up again as she started to sneeze. When she stopped, she dug her nose in the snow again and used it as a shovel and nudged the snow away. She did this until she got to the grass. Unfortunately no frozen flowers were there, but the green grass was nice.

Mia moved on to liberate the next patch of grass, and the next. A hill of snow was starting to form beside her.

Spotty trotted around in the newly fallen snow. The landscape looked quite beautiful but at the same time barren. It seemed like everytime a blade of grass tried to show itself, the snow would rain down again and cover it up. Weather like this kept other Soquili in the safety of their teepees or with their families. Spotty had no family and was left to wander around in the cold. And though he does love to play in the snow, it is hard to enjoy it alone.

Out of the corner of his eye, the stallion noticed that a small patch of grass was showing through the white snow. This was a bit random but was a reminder of spring and meant that someone must be close by. Walking past the patch of grass Spotty noticed a mare not too far from him. She appeared to be digging in the snow and uncovering the grass. It had been a while since Spotty had seen another Soquili and he wasn't about to let this chance go to waste. So he began to slowly approach the digging mare.

Mia continued to dig and clear more patches of grass. Seeing the green grass appear under the bleak snow made her happy, and thus in turn made her dig faster. All of a sudden she saw bright colored spots out of the corner of her eye. For a minute she though she was getting so exhausted that she was seeing, so she shoke her head, but they were still there. She looked up and saw that in fact there was another soquili standing there. A stallion as white as the snow with brightly colored spots all over. Mai wasn't sure if she was imagining his existance or not, so she slowly trotted up to him and peered at him more closely, and gently poked him with her hoof to make sure he was real.

Spotty was a bit surprised by the mare's sudden approach and sudden poke. But the stallion could only laugh. He had been told before that he looked like floating rainbow spots against the white snow. This was totally different from the mare, Spotty saw that both her hair and body were brown. Spotty had always liked natural colors on Soquili.

"Hello," he managed to get out between laughs, "I am, in fact, real. My name is Spotty Paws."

The stallion felt that an introduction was always important, especially when meeting a mare.

Mai jumped when he started to laugh. She blushed realizing that she had embarassed herself in front of him.

"I-I-m sorry, I wasn't sure if you were real or not. I thought I was seeing things. Forgive me." she replied real formally looking at the ground as to try to redeem herself from doing something so stupid. See saw that she had not offended him though, and the relaxed tone of his laugh made her relax a little bit as well. She finally got the courage back up to lift her head and look at him.

"Nice to meet you Spotty Paws." She giggled then stopped abuptly, afraid she would hurt his feelings, she blushed again.

"Sorry, that was rude of me. It's just that thats not a normal name. My name is Mailu, but you can call me Mai. Its nice to meet you. I haven't met many Soquili around here."

Spotty watched the mare apologize and gave a smile. "There's no need to be sorry, it's nice to finally meet another Soquili out here." The area was abandoned besides the two.

Looking, Spotty could see that Mia's brown cheeks were now bright red. He had never made a mare blush before. It looked...very cute. The stallion couldn't help but smile. He had totally forgot about the cold that was all around him. The snow had stopped falling and even the icy wind had calmed down.

"You can just call me Spotty," he added, thinking, "And don't worry, it is a pretty strange name isn't it?" The name was different, but fit the stallion and his patterns perfectly.

Mai laughed "Yes it is, but that really doesn't matter. A name is just a name." She looked around, thinking of something to say to fill the silence.

"So Spotty..... what brings you here?" She asked, pawing some of the snow at her feet around as she spoke.

"Well I really have no where else to be," Spotty answered truthfully, "I knew that if I wandered around long enough I would find someone else."

Spotty had been walking alone for awhile without meeting anyone else. The snow kept the other Soquili away.

"How about you?" he asked back.

Mai nodded "Same here. Only i have been trying to find a nice meadow with flowers to play in, but theres just snow here. So I gave up and decided to free some of the grass here from their frozen prison" she nodded at the newly free grass.

"its nice to see some color there. Although I can say your way more colorful. You brightened my day, pun intended." Mai laughed

"I don't think anyone will be seeing flowers for months," Spotty said looking towards the ground. He knew that the winter had only just started to coat the land in white.

But his spirits were lifted by Mai's words. No one had ever said that about him. "Should we walk somewhere?" Spotty offered after a while, "Or I could help you free the grass if you'd like."

Mai was glad that she had some company in Spotty, she started to feel even more comfortable around him.

"hhmmmm...a walk sounds good. I've been freeing grass for hours and my nose is frozen." She giggled, causing her to sneeze.

"Uh oh, hope i don't get a cold." she laughed as she started walking. She walked with him in silence for a bit, unsure of what to say. She hadn't been in the company of many Soquili, especially males, so her social skills weren't the best. It didn't help either that she was shy at first meetings.

" Sorry.... Im awful at conversation. Not a good companion am I?" She joked, trying to lighten the mood. Not that the mood needed much lightening, since she felt comfortable around him. She only hoped he felt the same.

Spotty was glad to be walking, he had been starting to feel cold standing.

He felt relaxed around the mare, which was strange because it usually took him much longer to feel this way around someone.

"Don't be sorry, my conversation skills aren't the greatest either," Spotty laughed. He wasn't sure what to talk about, it had been so long since he had good company.

"Plus, I think you'd make anyone a great companion." he smiled towards Mai, "I was terribly lonely before meeting you here."

Mai blushed again. She hated doing that. She never really used to blush before. "thanks. Well at least we both have that in common." SHe smiled at him. She looked up at the sky. It was filled with clouds, except for one break that some sunlight burst through, spraying the ground below in the distance with sunlight. Mai longed for some sun, so she grinned at Spotty.

"Race you towards the sunny spot!" she shouted at she sprang out and galloped towards the place.

Spotty felt himself smile when he saw Mai blush, but found himself a little embarrased. What was he feeling?

He shook his head and when the stallion looked back Mai was running off ahead of him. Spotty started after her running as fast as he could, so he could catch up. The sunny spot looked refreshing against all the bitter snow. "Watch out Mai," he joked from behind the mare, "Or I might catch up!"

The spot ahead of them seemed to have less snow as well, as if the sun was trying its hardest to melt it. This would be the perfect spot to rest after the Soquili's little race.

Mia looked back and smiled, sticking her tongue out "Oh really, we'll see about that!" She teased, picking up speed. The sunny spot appeared closer and closer as they neared. They were both neck and neck now, she bumped into Spotty playfully to try to get him to slow down.
