■■■■■■■■■■ Welcome and well met!
This is a medieval-fantasy RP set in the kingdom of Drell. It's free form with direction! I'll move the plot along the best I can, but if you have an idea for a subplot, PM me and we can talk about it! I don't bite...hard!
I know the race selection looks limiting, but it's not! Really! Drell has many areas that have been left unexplored. If you have an idea of something you want to play, PM me the description and explain how they fit into the world. (No vampires, angels, or demons. Sorry!) I have my own, but I want to advance the RP in that direction, and we can do it for yours too! Subplots, baby!
This RP's main genre is adventure. There's a very good chance some fighting will be involved, and who's to say some sparks won't fly between characters?
All this being said, please join! I hope to be RPing with you soon.■■■■■■■■■■

■■■■■■■■■■ Rules
■ Follow all Gaia and Guild Rules! ■ Swearing is allowed, but don't overdo it. ■ This is a literate role play. That is, to say, no one-liners and please use proper spelling. ■ No god-moding. Auto-hitting. Power playing. Whatever you wanna call it. ■ Please PM your profile to me. Subject: Kingdom of Drell :: Your Character's Name. Fill it out completely. No unknown areas. ■ You may play more than one character if you desire, but please, no more than three. ■ Treat others the way you want to be treated. ■ Feel free to talk in OOC, but please denote it with some sort of symbolism and try to keep it to a minimum. If it's something major, I suggest PMs. I'm now working on setting up a OOC thread. ■ If you have any ideas, subplots, plot twists, or any problems, send me a PM. I'm nice, I swear I won't bite. ■ Most importantly, have fun! ■ Any questions regarding anything you read here can be directed to me, Delim, via PM. ■■■■■■■■■■

■■■■■■■■■■ Of years passed Drell is a kingdom of much mystery. Most of the realm has been left untouch by humans. The elves rule their forest and the dwarves rule the mountains. The humans have maintained their kingdom to the south of the mountains and between the rivers since they first began settling there roughly 200 years ago. The dwarves and humans formed an alliance quickly, while many elves still approach humans with distrust.
It hasn't been long since the first human realized the power of magic. Karazan Li'Mun was the first human mage. He founded the city of Li'Mun to serve as a place where those with natural ability could learn to control their magic. It wasn't long before Li'Mun was the center of all things magical and even hosted it's own academy. Karazan founded the Enclave of Mages to govern the city, and many mages travel to Li'Mun to perfect their art.
However, there have been rumors of the Enclave perhaps dabbling in darker magic and preforming unethical experiments. However no one has been able to discover any solid evidence supporting either claim. Anyone who knows about it is not willing to talk.
Recently the king, King Heston d'Audrell, has fallen ill. His daughter Jenelle has been acting ruler since he became unable to govern. ■■■■■■■■■■

■■■■■■■■■■ Tell me where you're from LindellThe capital city of Drell. People of all types call it their home. It is settled on Kerop Bay and Enen river. The city itself is set on a high cliff, the river running over the edge creating a majestic waterfall into the ocean. A huge castle sits in the middle, with the rest of the city built around it. Those travelling by sea usually find it easier to dock in Rosebeach, but there is a dock for smaller trade and passenger ships to the southwest. TyrTyr is a big, bustling, merchant town. It sits on the junction of nearly every road in the province, and as such is often called "The Crossroads." During the day, notable merchants buy wares, but at night Tyr sports a shady underground reputation with a hearty dark market, and people with even shadier reputations. If someone is looking for something illegal, this is the place they usually find it. Li'MunMostly shrouded in mystery, Li'Mun is home to all things magical and mystical. It is small in comparison to the major cities, but hosts grand buildings of very unique design. The Enclave of Mages call this their home and have the ultimate say in the law of the city. An island sits just within view on clear days and has been the home of not so ethical experiments...RosebeachNamed after the pinkish tint of the sand on the beach, this city attracts many tourists, from inside the kingdom and out. Many prefer the more quiet and rural nature of this busy port city than that of the capital.CarronCarron is a mining town, composed mostly of men. During the winter, many humans travel to Tyr, and go back once the snow begins to melt. Only those with families generally stay year around.FaymoorA fishing and farming community settled near Eveningale Forest and Enen River. Humans mostly do not travel into the forest, but during certain seasons they do go gather wild fruits and berries. Out of respect for the elves, the inhabitants of this village do not hunt inside the forest.FalldaleA very small farming village set along the Cenne River and on the Fall Plains. Everyone who lives there is a farmer of one thing or another. Many decide to travel the plains hunting as nomadic tribes, only settling in Falldale for the winter months.EveninwoodProtectors of the wood, the elves built their city up in the trees. It is mostly self-sufficient, getting most of the supplies from the forest. Few elves ever leave the city, and those who do rarely return. The actual location of the city is unknown to humans.■■■■■■■■■■

■■■■■■■■■■ Tell me what you are HumansHumans are the most abundant race, making up the majority of the population. Many are able to learn the use of magic, but very few have the natural ability. Those without natural magic ability have runes tatooed onto their skin or marked into their armor or clothes, or use relics to channel the power. The most powerful are those with the natural ability and learn to control it at a young age. ElvesLiving in the forests for most of their lives, elves consider themselves very close to nature and are gifted with the ability to understand plants and animals. Elves who leave their homeland gradually lose this ability, and that is the suspected reason why they never return. Even though they lack physical strength, they are quick and agile. Most elves dabble in the use of magic.DwarvesA very lively and hearty bunch, the dwarves prefer their mountain land, though they often can be seen enjoying the rowdy nightlife of Tyr. They cannot harness the power of magic.■ Note: I will allow other types of races, provided that you provide a rough description and explain where they are originally from. Hybrids are also allowed as long as it's explained at least briefly in the biography and both "mother" races are listed here already.■■■■■■■■■■

■■■■■■■■■■ The Magic of Drell The Eight Elements Most people are only able to harbor the use of one element naturally, though some are able to use weaker spells of another through the use of relics. Only the most powerful and well trained mages are able to naturally use two elements, though the other is never the element their main magic type is weak to. For example: It's impossible for a fire mage to also use water magic.
The way magic opposes each other is in a circle. Each has something they are weak against and something they are strong against. Fire > Ice > Wind > Earth > Lightning > Water > Fire ... etc Light <> Dark An easy way to think of it is that fire melts ice; ice blocks wind; wind erodes earth; earth absorbs lightning; lightning boils water; water extinguishes fire. Light and dark directly oppose each other.
■ Fire: One of the more destructive elements. Most fire mages specialize in the conjuration of fire to do what fire does best - burn. Few to no defensive abilities exist within this element. ■ Ice: Ice magic is a mostly defensive type of magic. Ice mages are able to freeze opponents in their path and easily create shields and barriers for protection. Some destructive spells do exist, such as conjuring ice shards to fall from the sky. ■ Wind: Wind magic is used by many to make items seem lighter than they are, so many wind mages can be found helping with construction. Other than that, there is a nice mix between destructive and defensive types of spells, but it doesn't truly excel in either category. ■ Earth: Another mainly defensive type, earth magic excels in placing barriers. Earth mages can also temporarily change the elevation of the land, possibly giving allies a height advantage. ■ Lightning: Able to conjure terrible storms to blind their foes, lightning mages often focus on large area destructive spells. Like fire, lightning has very few to none defensive spells. ■ Water: Being a major component of life, water is the only other element besides light with healing spells. However, they are very minor, especially in comparison to a trained light mage. Water does hold some destructive power, though it is most evident when the mage is actually near or in a body of water. ■ Light: Within light magic, there are no destructive abilities. The mages who have natural abilities with light magic are the healers of Drell. Light magic also includes other defensive spells such as shields and conjuring cures for poisons. It is one of the most complicated type of magic to master. ■ Dark: The most mysterious of all the types, the most common form of dark magic is that of illusions and shadows. These are easy enough to use, especially through the use of relics. The only type of magic that is forbidden falls within the dark element: necromancy. RelicsA relic can be anything. It's a rather generic term many mages use to describe some type of item, usually with a gemstone, that is used to channel magic power. They range from jewelry such as necklaces and rings to more ornate items such as staffs. There are two types of relics: those that are used to channel natural magic ability to amplify it, and those that are imbued with magic power to allow those without the natural ability to use magic.
Normally only those who are wealthy posses one, due to their expensive nature, but there are very simple ones available that many of those middle and lower class are known to have. ■■■■■■■■■■

Thunder clapped loudly outside the keep. A dark haired woman sitting at a small desk briefly looked up from the book she was reading. She had been intently reading an ancient tome on the medicinal properties of dragon's blood. For a moment she wondered if the thunder was merely the weather or if the lord was angered. The woman shuddered as she thought of the lord's bad moods. Her mind attributed the thunder to a passing summer storm. Not wanting to dwell on it, Taryn brought a mug of rum to her lips and took a long drink, then turned her attention back to her reading. For nearly thirty minutes she was engrossed in reading her book and enjoying her rum. Dragon's blood had fascinating properties.
As the clock struck midnight, Taryn closed the book she had been studying with a thud. With a small yawn, she stood up and walked slowly over to an open window. Looking outside, the sky appeared fairly clear. The moon was bright and full and the stars were shining. She inhaled, taking in the crisp, salty night air. In the distance, she could barely make out the small island where many young mages practice and older mages do research. She thought she could see a small wisp of smoke, and briefly thought that perhaps that could have been the source of the thunder from earlier.
Taryn had no time to contemplate the matter, as there was a loud knock at the door. She rushed over and opened it. Standing in the doorway was a short, scruffy, squint-eyed man. “Yer wanted by the master,” he spat out and immediately trod away down the hallway.
Taryn sighed inwardly as she watched the scruffy man walk away. She smoothed the skirt of her dark green satin gown with one hand as she combed back her hair with another. In a moment she was walking down the dimly lit hallway to the lord's throne room.
After a short walk, Taryn entered Lord Karazan’s throne room. Pushing past the guards at the door, the small woman purposefully strode to the dais where he sat on his purple velvet throne. She curtsied deeply. When she arose, Taryn was careful to keep her eyes off Lord Karazan's disfigured face. “How may I serve you?” she asked in a servile tone that belied her true nature.
“To start you can look at me and not the floor,” Karazan commanded. Taryn obeyed, still averting her focus from the left side of the old man's face. She always thought it had looked badly burned and gross and attributed it from a magical accident. She never had the guts to ask. “I have an errand for you,” he said.
She nodded slightly. “Whatever you wish of me, I will accomplish,” Taryn replied softly.
“Excellent!” he grinned and clasped his hands together. “It seems a wayward servant, Herul, has stolen the Star Amethyst. You do know how important that is to me. Don’t you?” he queried.
“Yes, I do.” Taryn responded. “But how does this involve me?”
Karazan stared at her for a moment as if debating if she was being insulent or not. “Simple. I wish for you to quietly leave the castle, locate Herul, then bring back both him and the Star Amethyst,” Karazan told her.
“Wouldn’t one of your men be better…” Taryn began. But she was cut off.
“No,” he said speaking louder and forcefully. “I trust you to handle this matter completely and discretely.” He threw a bag of coins at Taryn's feet. “Go now. Hire whatever help you need. There will be more for you when you return.” With a wave of his hand, Taryn knew she was dismissed.
She curtsied, picked up the bag and hurried to her private chamber. In her room, Taryn changed into more practical clothing and tied her hair into a ponytail, even though her bangs would not be tied back and fell back around her face. Grabbing a gray cloak, she left the grounds unnoticed. Taryn went to the stable to saddle her own brown mare. She mounted the horse, and quietly trotted off in the direction of Tyr.

Thunder roared, but Lorelai knew that there would be no rain. Not only could she not smell it, she couldn't sense even any clouds in the sky, let alone the fat, wet drops that would be forming if there were clouds. Nonetheless, the sound still made her want to go outside as if the rain would come. Making sure she was armed, Lorelai threw on a cloak and stepped outside her lodgings.
It was a beautiful evening, aside from the obviously magical thunder. She suspected that something had enraged Lord Karazan, since the students she had met when she dropped in on a few of the Academy's classes spoke in awe of him. In fact one boy, obviously wanting to be just like the city's great founder, had said in hushed, reverent tones, "I've heard that he is so powerful, he can create thunder and lightning when he's upset. Wouldn't that be cool?" Lorelai hadn't thought that it would be that cool. She had never liked lightning magic very well--including thunder. It just felt unpleasantly prickly. Water was much smoother, and far more soothing to use.
Lorelai continued to walk the streets of Li'Mun, contemplating. Somehow, she ended up near Lord Karazan's manor. Now how did I get here? The light of the full moon lent a silver shine to her long, black braid as she looked around. Seeing nothing particulary interesting, she continued walking, making her way to the north side of the manor. Midnight had just passed, not too long ago, and there were few on the streets. Any who were there were most likely drunk, or looking to become so. Up ahead, she heard hoofbeats. Moving quickly and silently, Lorelai rounded the corner to see a woman shrouded in a grey cloak sitting upon the horse. Lorelai stopped, and the woman and horse trotted out of sight, toward Tyr.
Always ready to leave, Lorelai walked through the remainder of the town, and set off toward Tyr herself. The woman was too far ahead to be seen or heard, but Lorelai was still curious. Besides, she had always wanted to go to Tyr.
