It had been weeks, and there was still no sign of his youngest son. Why Smolder had run away, Daray didn't know, he wanted to know... but most of all, he simply wanted to find his child.
Shaking his head, he leaned against the entrance of the family cave. Aita and the others had left for the moment, leaving him alone in the cavern to his own thoughts. His mate had taken it hard as well... losing a child was not a situation either of them had planned nor expected themselves to be forced to go through.
"Smolder.... where are you?" he asked the chilly winter air, his voice barely above a whisper.

He watched as the forlorn stallion pressed himself against the cavern's wall. What Daray was thinking, he didn't know, and he didn't care. Nobody cared for him, he no longer cared for them. In fact, hatred had taken over, and it would continue to give him the feeling of completion he'd lacked as a foal among his peers. Now he was above them all, and never felt more powerful.
Standing among the trees of the forest, red eyes continued to watch, waiting for his moment to strike. Daray hadn't believed him before about the Skinwalker attack... now he would face one of his own.

Memories were betraying him, and slowly replaying before his eyes. His three little ones playing, little Smolder trying to be as tough as his mother. He and Pyre were competitive, and although Pyre was older, Smolder would never let him forget he could be just as tough.
Then there was the evening where Smolder had disappeared, as a foal. That horrible night where Smolder had changed forever. His attitude, his personality... everything about his tough and determined son had turned for the worse. No longer did he respect and admire his family, but instead was cold and ruthless in his words and actions. But although he turned into a creature Daray no longer knew, he would always love his youngest, there was no doubt about that.

He suppressed a growl from erupting from within his throat, watching the orange and black stallion continue on with his silent thinking. He would pay... he would pay for everything. He, and the others... all of them would get what was coming to them.
His legs shifted, his thoughts steady and calculating. He would wait for Daray to come to him.. he would not approach him yet, not in his condition.
