News for today. The Baltimore Ravens have just fired head Coach Brian Billick. The coach who won Super Bowl XXXV over the Giants, in 2000, has been a coach for 9 seasons with the Ravens, and took them to the playoffs four of those years. After a disappointing 5-11 season, he was fired by the owner of Baltimore.

...A shock to me really...I always thought that he was one of the few current coaches who were elite and very successful, along with Belichick, Dungy, Fisher, Gibbs, and Shanahan.

Their season has really turned around from their 13-3 season last year, with a great defense, and the #1 AFC seed.

I think this was a bih mistake. This year was weird, and the players got out of control and started to act like babies (of course when you lose to th ebrowns twice who wouldent. LOL XD)

Next year the team will be pretty good if you ask me, espically if they put Tro Smith in as the starting QB.

I don't know...he's pretty small, which is why he was drafted like in the fifth round (small QBs haven't been so successful in the NFL). Smith could work out, though. They need wide receivers that can make plays, and need to renew their defensive line.

What's wrong with losing to the Browns? They're a really good team.

They aren't great, but they're good. Huge improvement from the last few seasons. Very explosive offense. Defense is what cost them from being in the playoffs this season, although they really improved during the last few weeks of the season. The lass to the Bengals killed them...But what can you say? They're probably still cursed xd

...Anyways, I heard the Browns will probably get rid of Derek Anderson. Great player this season, but with all they gave up to sign Brady Quinn...they almost have to.

I don't think it's his fault. Since the Ravens got a new ownership 4 years ago, they are below .500 and GM signing have been questionable. You don't just ditch a coach that has won you a Super Bowl, and did great with his defense. A lot of their woes had to do with bad QBs, injury, and bad coordinator play calling.

They need an offensive minded coach more. The Ravens' defense is somewhat decent, but their offense is now nothing. Billick is a defensive oriented coach.

I've been hearing that Shotty might go to Baltimore, I've heard that Carol (USC) might go to Atlanta, I don't know the situations for the Redskins, Dungy may retire for the Colts, and Miami has recently hired Sparano as the new head coach.

Petrino wasn't that great of a college coach. He was overrated.

Carol is a great college football coach, and may be able to work with the offense (mostly QB) to develop. Look what he's done with Leinart and Booty...Don't know how things will turn out, but Carol is best suited to stay back at USC. You should at least be a former NFL player/coach/coordinator, to have enough experience to be a head coach at this prestigious level.

A follow up story. This just in:

John Harbaugh was hired Friday as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. He was previously the secondary and special teams coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.
