Trees whipped by, her long black hair was loosing strands with each jolting step. Some fell into the view of her bright blue eyes. Quickly her slender hand unconsciously pushed it behind her blue feather adorned ear. Her vision needed to be clear if she wanted to eat tonight. Her brown moccasin covered feet nearly flew, she ran with speed of the wind. Each obstacle she avoided with the ease of practice. She hurtled fallen trees, ducked under low branches, missed tripping roots, all without missing a step. Her stomach growled as if reminding her of the consequences of a mishap. Yepa's eyes widened as more light shown through the dense trees. That meant one thing, she must be reaching the edge of the forest. If the small doe reached the meadow that surely was beyond, she would never catch it. Allowing herself one more burst of speed, her slender but muscular legs sprang into the air. Yepa just marginally made it, wrapping her arms around the small doe's midsection. The two tumbled to the ground, the doe kicking and fighting. With experienced hands, Yepa drew her small knife and drew it across the doe's throat. It took only moments for the doe to die without pain.

It didn't take Yepa long to clean up the deer and preform the traditional successful hunting ritual. She made a small fire to cook some of the meat. Only then did she let her sad eyes wonder. She was in a small meadow unknown to her. It wasn't often that she knew where she was, being a nomad. Yet this meadow seemed different than any other... something was almost magical about it.

A black figure moved slowly through the open meadow, a rainbow of sparkles feel form his muscular body with each step he took. A long tri-colored mane and tail hung about him. A grinning rainbow skull adorned his hunches and seemed to stare out at the world around him. Vibrant Shades of Death paused catching two strange scents, he recognized one as the scent of a two-legger but the other was different and made the stallion shake is head and roll up his upper lip in disgust.

Snorting again he let his glowing eyes scan the horizon then he stamped a bloody looking hoof and moved forward once more his muscles tight and bulging beneath the ebony and sparkley coat.

Yepa froze, her bright blue eyes wide. Her nostrils flared, every muscle tensed. Slowly she got onto her feet from her knees. She remained hunched down, hoping the grass would hide her if even a little. If only she could blot out the fire as quickly. The smoke from covering it would be worse.

In an almost jerky motion, her eyes scanned the horizon. There was something in the meadow... something that seemed bigger than human. Her slender hand slowly went to her leather belt, wrapping around her small knife. If she had to defend herself, she would.

VSoD paused and let out a loud snort, he heard the movement of Yepa as she crouched but he hadn't seen her. The stallion tossed his head and let out a challenging whinny and danced from side to side for a moment. Tossing his mane again the stallion stood stock still every muscles bulging more now. He looked like a living statue as he watched ahead of him for any sign of movement that could tell him where the two-legger was hiding and whether they meant him harm or not.

A brisk wind picked up his mane and made it tickle his nose, yet he still refused to move or take his eyes off the ground before him where he thought he'd heard the movement originate from.

The day was as fair as any other as her wings kept her body aloft and free from the restraints of the grounds below. Her pallid tail and mane waved about her body as she dove and looped around much like her family though something caught her attention... Something gray that rose into the air like a cloud that had been dragged to the ground and released only but a little at a time. Golden eyes narrowed as she tried to get a closer look without getting too close.

Curiouser.

Looping back, Wicapi Wakan headed toward the smoke, the tree tops brushing against her forelegs before she rose higher over them breaking into the meadow. From the ground she was more of a speck then a winged Soquili, but with her spiraling descent her brown and color swirled body could be made out more clearly. Once or twice she had drawn too close to the smoke, making a small trail behind a wing that almost completely encompassed the single band that rose to the skies higher above.

Breaking that path, she came for an easy glide away from the strangeness, her golden sight catching sight of another like her kind, though more like her brother. The flashy pink and green against the ebony was a dead give away of a strange stallion indeed. Her wings fluttering a couple times her blue banded hooves touched the ground a couple times before she settled. Her wings folding neatly to her sides and her head turned toward the space before the stallion and the smoke that rose from the ground.

What could he have been watching or waiting for?

Yepa whined softly, fear causing her heart to thunder in her chest. Memories of the fateful night when she was a child flashed through her mind. Her bright blue eyes watched the stallion, hoping it wouldn't draw any nearer. She stood as still as she could, wanting it to just go away.

Then suddenly a moving object in the sky caught her eye. It was a horse flying in the sky with wings like a bird. This was more than Yepa could stand. She dropped to the ground, crying out in fear. Holding herself in a fetal position, she sobbed softly.

Something attracted her eye, movement, her dark ears standing up on her head as a cry met them. Lifting her head up high she looked over toward the space near the smoke. Wings fluffing out at her sides a bit, Wica lowered her head and stretched out her neck a bit. Soon stepping one curious hoof before another she waded through the grass.

A singe eye watched the stallion as she moved closer. her other eye stared a head as she went closer, something was there. Raising her head up again, she tried looking over the grass... But whatever it was that was there was still hidden. Glancing toward the flashy stallion she stopped past and into the small patch of short grass...

Stopping there, half in the tall grass and half not, Wica looked down at the strange looking human... An ear twitched as her head tilted to one side, she wondered what it was doing, certainly not sleeping... It was making too much noise for that. Her ear twitched again as she stepped forward again, just about to where the human was laying. Wings stretching upwards a little, Wica lowered her head and nudged at the human before backing up a pace and lifting her head...

Her tail flicking behind her, she looked back out toward the stallion, wondering, were they together or something? ...

Yepa screamed as the winged horse nudged her. Trembling wracked her body, causing the grass around her to sway. Please don't hurt me! she cried out, hugging herself more. Over and over the memories of her youth reminded her of the pain of her past.

The sudden cry made her jump, her wings flew open and beat a couple times. making the grass wave and the smoke furl a different direction before she stopped. Also small cinders escaped the small pit and fell harmlessly to the ground. Having reared back in the action, Wica came back down to all fours and watched the human.

Tilting her head to one side, she again lowered her head, her ears perched upwards. The human was saying something, but she couldn't understand it. Shaking her head, letting a soft snort escape her muzzle before stepping forward again. Ears laying back a moment, her golden eyes narrowing as she tried to see the human's face. No good, blinking her ears came forward again as she let a soft wicker escape her throat.

Shaking the long mane from her eyes, Wica was curious about this whimpering, crying human. She hadn't seen her human act in such away, not even around the mountain lion her grandpa had. Her tail flicking again as the long strands were somewhat entangled in the tall grass. She had somewhat forgotten about the stallion...

She waited for something else to happen...

A human man came out into the meadow, the sound of a woman in distress had called his immediate attention away from the hunt of a stag and towards the scream. The tall grass made for a little camouflage for the small Usdia bounding along side the man who had been in a burst of running since the sound. He motioned to his companion to stay close as they slowed down and approached the strange Soquili and human girl. This particular mare didn't seem harmful, in fact she appeared fairly startled herself. Smiling kindly to the both of them he addressed the huddled woman, hoping he was right in his assumption of the female soquili's disposition as he was now fairly close, close enough for physical harm if he was wrong.

"Ma'am, are you alright? I heard your screams from quite a distance."

Meanwhile Karishma, a fairly short Usdia mare decided to question the winged female who would hopefully have some answers as to what was going on. She wished that she'd met more Soquili, other than Snitch and Niele she hadn't really met anyone else. The lack of socialization certainly didn't come in handy in times like this, but with any luck this mare would be pleasant or at least understanding of their intrusion.

"I'm Karishma. I'm sorry that we interrupted you two but we heard your human's scream and well, it's been my understanding that such reactions aren't at all a good thing...."

She looked off for a moment to her two-legger and the strange female, then back to the mare. Taller, such a divine coat and to top it off she had wings, this mare was a wonder to behold...at least to someone who'd never seen such a thing like her.

Her head snapping up, Wica turned toward the strange male that came a running. Rearing again she backed away, clearly very startled by all the sudden movements and cries that she let a cry of fright escape her own throat as she turned and paced to a more fair distance away from the humans, their actions puzzled her as well as made her wonder why they acted as such.

Looking back toward the small usdia that accompanied the male, she calmed just a bit her wings half stretched over her back, folded against at rest again her sides. she regarded the small mare before looking back over toward the humans. Her ears perked gently as she heard the small mare speak, first her name that turned attentions toward the crying human.

"She is not my human. The smoke from her small fire attracted me to this spot. Only her cries drew me closer." Wica nodded as she stepped closer to Karishma. "My name is Wicapi Wakan, Daughter of Andre and Tsaluyi." She nodded soon looking over toward the humans. "I do hope that she's alright, her cries scare me and lead me to think that something might have frightened her... I don't know." She shook her head at this and lowered it more to the usdia's eye level and perhaps lower letting her long mane pile up upon the grass.

It took Yepa a few minutes to compose herself. It had been a long time since she had seen another human. He was a particularly handsome one too... Slowly she stood, her supple body continued to tremble though.

"I am alright... I... well... never have I seen a horse with wings!" she suddenly cried out, quite exasperated. Yepa ran her hands quickly over her small leather dress to brush off the dirt and grass. Her bright blue eyes stayed on the horses, every muscle just as tense as before.

Karishma smiled, another soquili to get acquainted with. She listened as the winged mare spoke, she'd never met her before but there was a chance she'd seen the family. The small mare's blue eyes shifted back to the two humans, her human seemed to be calming the female down. Less worried about the situation that her first response she watched as the mare lowered her head, getting it nearer her own level.

"Ah, I suppose her fire would've attracted myself as well if I weren't hunting with my human. It's a pleasure to meet you Wicapi Wakan, that's such a exquisite name."

She paused, hearing out Wicapi Wakan, she noted that the mare's hair was extremely long. Smiling she nodded politely waiting for her to finish before she replied.

"I'm sure she'll be fine, startled a little but I think my human's calming her down. Do you by any chance have siblings? I would've sworn I've seen another with a similar coat to yours."

"Magnificent creatures they are."

Ineeko had a soft grin on his face, there was always someone who'd never seen a winged soquili, or perhaps one like his Karishma, or even those Kalonas. Nodding as he listened to her he watched her body shake, considerably startled still. As she moved her eyes to look at the two mares the man did the same, another smile clear around his lips.

"I'm sure the winged mare isn't violent, she seemed just as startled as you. Not to mention, if she wasn't friendly I'm pretty positive my Karishma, the other small pinto mare over there, wouldn't keep so close. You'll be fine, most of the Soquili I've seen in these parts are friendly or rather shy. Nothing to be worried about."

Kindly moving a little closer to her and the fire he looked down at it. It dawned on him that he hadn't even introduced himself, what a fool, he laughed careful to make sure he didn't seem as though he was laughing at her before continuing to speak, Ineeko was certainly a chatterbox when he got going.

"How careless of me, I'm Ineeko...a medicine man of my village."

Yepa forced herself to smile. She laid her hand, palm down, against her breast over her heart. This was the greeting of her people. "I am known as Yepa by my people... Well, I was, when I had people." Her eyes grew far off in thought, a sadness seeming to envelope her.

Suddenly she snapped out of it, remembering herself. "I am far from home. Further than I have ever been. We had horses, yes, but none like these ones here... They seem to be something different all together. Especially the one with wings like a bird." she said slowly, slightly embarrassed at her ignorance.
